This song is great4! Neil's voice, and poetic lyricsl really stand out in this piece. and the guitar playing by itself is the only instrumentation needed.
@@freedomisall5620 that song parallels the past and present day trials and effots we all live with. But as you heard..."Carry On". .Make it count! Live happy 🙂
THE one and only NEIL YOUNG. One of the greatest that ever sang on planet earth, I just hope someday I am in the same section of Heaven he's in... I LOVE YOU NEIL YOUNG!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
This is without a doubt my favorite Neil song - he has created so many great songs throughout the years - never a fan of his politics but you can hear the sincerity of his lyrics and even though many have said his vocal ability leave something to be desired, I still think he has a very special place in the world of music history
So nostalgic for me. This is exactly the period when as a kid I became a huge Neil Young fan. He sounded amazing. These old acoustic songs is what cemented the love affair with his music. I don't want to say I ever stopped liking him. That wouldn't be true. However I only liked a small portion of his electric stuff so I listened to him less. Regardless, he'll always be one of my all time favorite musicians. He's a legend!!
Neil Young has Written so many Beautifully crafted songs evoking a gamut of different emotions as he performs his songs Himself. This is one of my favorites coming off of my favorite album by him, After the Goldrush. I first heard it In high school, in the early 70s, And I'm still listening.
The music, the lyrics, and Neil's voice are all great. I think those lyrics would make an excellent poem for a Norton Anthology of Poetry (I've seen the lyrics of Lucy in the Sky with Diamonds in one of that company's Introduction to Poetry).
Old man lying by the side of the road With the lorries rolling by, Blue moon sinking from the weight of the load And the buildings scrape the sky, Cold wind ripping down the alley at dawn And the morning paper flies, Dead man lying by the side of the road With the daylight in his eyes. Don't let it bring you down It's only castles burning, Find someone who's turning And you will come around. Blind man running through the light of the night With an answer in his hand, Come on down to the river of sight And you can really understand, Red lights flashing through the window in the rain, Can you hear the sirens moan? White cane lying in a gutter in the lane, If you're walking home alone. Don't let it bring you down It's only castles burning, Just find someone who's turning And you will come around. Don't let it bring you down It's only castles burning, Just find someone who's turning And you will come around.
After the gold rush is in my top 10 greatest albums,Neil at his best

I was there at that concert. It was amazing and I was only 13 years old.My dad thought it was odd singing but he just didn't get it.
How incredible!
Neil Young's voice is good, unique and distinctive, kind of like John Lennon and his voice.
No shit! You lucky MOFO. Would have given my left pinkeen to be there. I would have been the same age BTW.

Absolutely! I was greatly impressed with Neil's poetic imagination. And I do love his voice too! Didn't he also write the song "Wrecking Ball"?
A man and his guitar. The sound, the words come together like magic.

Goosebumps
goose bumps
Old man lying
by the side of the road
With the lorries rolling by,
Blue moon sinking
from the weight of the load
And the buildings scrape the sky,
Cold wind ripping
down the alley at dawn
And the morning paper flies,
Dead man lying
by the side of the road
With the daylight in his eyes.
Don't let it bring you down
It's only castles burning,
Find someone who's turning
And you will come around.
Blind man running
through the light
of the night
With an answer in his hand,
Come on down
to the river of sight
And you can really understand,
Red lights flashing
through the window
in the rain,
Can you hear the sirens moan?
White cane lying
in a gutter in the lane,
If you're walking home alone.
Don't let it bring you down
It's only castles burning,
Just find someone who's turning
And you will come around.
Don't let it bring you down
It's only castles burning,
Just find someone who's turning
And you will come around.
