@@TheHoriyoshi... Thanks for responding, I appreciate you doing so.
You say that "...and that 'awakening' was not a recognition or an experience....it simply IS...".
Thing... Well... Is... For anyone to have realization of "...it simply IS..." requires "...a recognition or an experience..." (and to be clear, "...recognition..." and "...experience..." are one and the same).
This is the reality of being... Which is required for there to, well, be an "...I...".
If there is not being there is no "...I...".
And once there is a being... And therefore and "...I..."... There is "...experience...".
      Simply put...
Being/existence... "...I..."... And experience... Are all the same thing.
To be awakened (have an "...awakening...") is only possible to that which has being... And the very definition of the word "...awakening..." implies a being, an "...I...", and an experience.
      There's no way around it.
Perhaps you have no words to explain it better because your "...I..." simply wants it to seem that way in order for your "...I..." to satiate some ego need.
A phrase often used in the normal human world of communicating is "...I'm above that..."... And often, in order to try and differentiate ourselves from others in our own minds, we choose to ignore the obvious (fool ourselves).
Suffice to say, there can be no "...being...", no "...I...", and no "...experience..."... Without a source by, in, through, and for which "...being...", "...I...", and "...experience..." are made possible.

The clarity descends as we understand that awareness/consciousness is not 'me' - rather that 'me' is a something in awareness/consciousness. If the awareness is perturbed by what it is aware of then it is a 'me'. Only 'me's are perturbed. 10 years ago I would say to anyone who cared to listen that 'I am awareness/consciousness ' - it was something I had read in a book or heard a teacher say to me. It is the realisation that 'me' is something in awareness that changed everything. Awareness/consciousness is not perturbed by feelings- only a 'me' is. Addiction to the spiritual path is a result of the 'me' being perturbed by feelings and sensations and wanting them to not be - 'me' wants to be distracted from them. The 'me' wants to be free of feelings which 'me' says are unpleasant. It is the 'me' that says 'when I am enlightened I will be free' Awareness is not perturbed by the presence of 'me' - it doesn't mind anything it is aware of.

The trouble with the "me" is it desires the pleasant but finds the unpleasant undesirable. They are two sides of the same coin, and so it cannot have one without the other. It only thinks it doesn't want to suffer, but it absolutely loves its suffering and drama. Consciousness' illusory separate self is an unconscious split mental activity and a learned mental conditioning. The "me" doesn't want to admit that it loves its suffering as well but feels guilty so it projects itSelf as a negative entity it calls the "ego." Eckhart Tolle calls this the "pain-body," the negative entity of the body-mind persona that arises only after Consciousness arises from dreamless deep sleep, or Pure Awareness. It is Consciousness in its game of self-ignorance (externalization/superimposition) identifying with its own projection of a "finite mind" which is merely content in Consciousness. Consciousness itself is an illusion in the subtle form of a transient Awareness, a modulation of intransient Pure Awareness. Awareness doesn't mind because ultimately it is without mind and Consciousness. Its illusory nature is relative. Its true nature is Absolute.

That’s what I mean by “better” as you experience it directly and the mind cannot get in the way or cover it up with thoughts and a conceptual narrative.

I know where she’s standing and I do understand what Rupert is saying clearly, but in my own opinion I understand that even for beings like him is not easy to explain in words what it’s inexplicable.
He ( as a being ) has to visit the mind to translate and find the closest words to explain in a way we can understand, but still we get confused bcoz it’s indeed for everyone of us an individual experience so we can truly feel it as it was for him, buddha, mooji, Osho, sadhguru etc, you name it. The stories have been told by them!
Whatever it was, wasn’t that an experience?
We can agree or disagree about this but for everyone of them ( these called enlightened beings , another created word ) they all have described their transitions from their personhood to presence =awakening as a kind of experience, a feeling, a sensation after many years of meditating or seeking in this spiritual path. Some of them have described it like hearing a sound, feeling a vibe, something else, etc.
All the definitions, these comments ( including mine ) are coming from our intellect = ego and not from our own experience = intelligence ( for most of us) we are talking from our personality.
You can say ok let’s go today sit down and recognize this space inside my body that has always being there and from where everything lives and I react.
That’s beautiful and we are searching for it, but is it honestly in our 365 days year experience or it was just for a moment? Why it doesn’t stay?
We are all feeling good today and tomorrow we get angry to our neighbor bcoz he/she scratched our car, or we can’t deal with that guy’s ‘opinion who is from a different culture and has an accent.
Or you’re angry w/ your boss bcoz he fired you. Don’t we stay in that pain of thoughts blaming everyone, and in that memory for 24h a week or longer?
So where this momentary “recognition” went?
The day our true experience happens we can say now our recognition is here ( hopefully in this lifetime )
In fact they said we won’t find the words or it will be very difficult to describe it.Otherwise, we are just quoting and saying what we have heard, and read from books, videos gurus, etc.
I do know most of us can recognize, observe and see the differences between our personality acting in this society and that beautiful presence, silence, and space from which we see everything as ourselves.
We can say I’m neither this body nor the mind and we can observe the observer etc, but all these definitions from where we are trying to find an answer are still coming from our understanding = intellect and not from our true universal intelligence from which all creatures are part of it.
The true experience that stays forever in us and we should respond always from.
Hence the highs and lows and this duality in our life.
This is why he’s sitting in front of us I’m not viceversa. 🙏🏼☺️
The recognition of my being it’s not something I can find by the intellect.
    Lastly
The only thing I recognize in this rehearsal of life is that I know NOTHING and that all my words and understandings are coming from my ego and ignorance.
I’m just like a parrot repeating what I have learned.
However, I do recognize and I’m grateful for the beauty of talking about a subject that can help all of us to grow up more in this lifetime. 🙏🏼
Id like to say let’s seat down and meditate more to see if one day we can talk from our true experience like he does!
These kind of videos help a lot but are also a distraction for our individual and unique path!!
    Blessings
    Love & peace to all

But is felt by the ‘heart’. ‘It’ is a feeling, like an inner smile or ‘love.’ It is also what remains when ‘you’ are just being (only the feeling of ‘I am’ (period), and not doing anything else (including thinking anything!). It has been described as, “the space between the thoughts.” If you are relaxed, and breathing slowly, sometimes there is a glimpse of this feeling right where your exhalation ends, and before your inhalation begins..Notice this point, perhaps pause a moment and feel.. Jesus was a perfect representation of how man really (truthfully) looks, One with God (John 10:30) and One with all men. This is Love, no barriers, no borders, no me and you, us and them. "Love your neighbour as yourself" because he/she is yourself. This is what repentance really means (metanoia in Greek) a change of mind, changing it from a belief that we are separate from God to one where we are in God and thus each other. Sin is an outworking of wrong thinking and darkened minds (Romans 1:21). "In our minds we were separated from God by our wicked works" (Col 1:21). It took a perfect man (a man of pure truth) to come into the darkness of life and declare the truth. @@biblescenes "It is this truth that is the light that shines in the darkness, it is this truth that illumines our lives so that we also become beacons of light."
This is said from the outside. That light is the utterly simple everyday 'invisible light' that lights up or illumines (every) perception, and without which there would be absolutely nothing, not even the idea of nothing. There can only be error, suffering and sin if that light (of perception) is first there to reveal it. If one can say 'I suffer, I err, I am' then clearly that light is already present. To find out who is in error, who suffers and who sins, attention must turn from 'what the light reveals' to 'what is the nature of this light that reveals?'. To use Biblical language, one must turn attention away from 'man, whose breath is in his nostrils' (which is to say, mortal fleshy man) and towards that light in whom fleshy man appears. In the non-canonical Gospel of Thomas ('these are the secret sayings of the living Jesus, written down by me Didymos Judas Thomas, and whosoever understands their meaning, the taste of death he shall know not') one of the disciples ask Jesus "if I am not this mortal fleshy person that was 'born of a woman', where do we thinking human beings come from?". He replies "If they say to you, 'Where have you come from?' say to them, 'We have come from the light, from the place where the light came into being by itself, established [itself], and appeared in their image.' Rupert is superimposing his experiential known over her's which are not the same. He's already had the shift in perception...she is still seeing from the separate self. It's actually surprising that he cannot even recognize that in her.
He needs to create am experience for her to know what he does. That is the challenge for teachers.
    * Also - all that reiteration of "porche" and "perfect man" was patronizing her. Those were her previous teacher 's words to compare her addiction to enlightenment. She wanted enlightenment. Why couldn't he just use that as the thing she was chasing for happiness? But Rupert had to make this video "watchable' and sensational ...so he clung onto "porche" and perfect man" . I felt like she’d already got it but preferred to be a seeker; possibly for the thrill of finding/feeling what was already implicit in her experiences. Craving for enlightenment seems to be the complementary pair of letting go of craving for enlightenment. Cultivating awareness of and appreciation for this profoundly dynamic (ever-unfolding and uncontainable) interdependence of opposites has helped “me” discover and rediscover the mutual reinforcing qualities of whole-ness and individual-ness. These days though, the seeking and the finding have unified into a deep appreciation for their interdependence at the level of my action figure and a deep contentment and detachment from either state at the level of witness consciousness.

So don't be contented with yourself chasing your own tail, you're stating in so saying your own defeat.
This truth is only saying that before you think, I am, before you feel, I am, when you go unconscious, I am, when you sleep in bed, I am.

And I have far fewer expectations, though I still
have “intentions” and now I just let them
go, and if they are meant to come to me, I’m grateful. You can hear the disappointment in the woman's voice speaking to Spira. The buddha did not teach that spiritual seeking or desire was wrong or the same as the desire for mundane objects. The desire that the woman describes is to be praised and encouraged. The buddha called it dharma chunda or vhirya- desire for truth, freedom, energy towards enlightenment. We need that drive because like all the awakened ones through history they needed to transcend the greatest force in the universe, the ego; and this didn't happen just on its own. Tremendous resolve and love and wisdom are needed. The woman asks a great question Why are there so many people in this room? Because Spira seems to simplify and make it sound oh so easy. A good teacher recognises and can adapt their words to suite an individual. I felt Spira totally missed where this intelligent and aritulate deep woman was coming from. She articulated a great question. The ego won't just go away because you are tricked into believing you are already happy. We can hear in her voice how defeated she sounds. Our innate nature may be happiness but ignorance runs very deep and we need human qualities of strength and resolve and perseverance and patience to uproot these volitions embedded in samsara. It is these heroic qualities that lead to the place where eventually the ultimate letting go happens. Faith, discernment, energy and receptivity are the ingredients for true freedom.

Possibly coming from a Buddhist background you are insisting that there is a path and that this woman is a good passionate seeker! You clearly have compassion and empathy for her. The trouble is that it is the absence of seeking, that is realisation. Rupert was keeping it direct and simple to address this. Just like all those crazy zen Buddhist stories where the monk jumps over the wall to escape the monastery and gets enlightened in the local brothel! Because he finally let go. Rupert is just trying to save her some time.

    • @edwinbircumshaw8161
      @edwinbircumshaw8161 3 ปีที่แล้ว +3

It is not just the absence of seeking that represents awakening, it is the absence of a seeker. Just because you stop seeking does not mean that the seeker has disappeared. There may be some days, months, even years of relief because the struggling has settled but the seeker can hide in such subtle ways and re-emerge in fine fettle when life triggers it. These teachers can perhaps occasionally uproot completely the sense of agency in a follower but rarely does the path unfold like that. For the thousands and thousands of genuine seekers who don't realise the unfathomably profound nature of the wisdom and compassion of the mind from this sort of pathless path, other qualities need to be nurtured and honoured so that the ground is prepared for awakening. Of course this is one snapshot of a dialogue and Ruperts relationship to the questioner is unknown, maybe this is just what she needs, to meet the end of the road, maybe she was ready to melt into that frustration and see it for what it is, a manifestation of craving, maybe she went away amd cried and cried amd her heart broke open to her own years of struggle and maybe it dawned on her that her own desire for awakening was indeed the final link in the chain for her and a new freedom opened up.

The one who is awake finds words to describe his transcendent experience. The problem with words is that unenlightened seekers cannot seize the meaning from them that enlightened person sees in them. Words form no bridge. You must form the bridge yourself through observation and meditation, through experience and reflection. Your very own understanding is the bridge that connects to the arcane words of a sage.

To get rid of the wanting to achieve something, just let go of the wanting. Realize that who you really are was never "born" nor will ever "die." This I do not understand: the Woman repeatedly states: "I find my self...."...the Woman's 'self' is not paying attention, 'self' is not 'Noticing' that self's 'I' is speaking...this is a fundamentally lack of technique, a flaw in 'Method'...'self' is not tracking by 'self'...'self' is the aspect that begins and progresses upon the Path...the lack of 'noticing' by 'self' negates the consequence of the tracking-Technique, this consequence is 'differentiation', as by 'self' tracking all that is articulated, and noticing, which results in 'awareness of self' by 'self', 'self' literally 'see's' 'self', and consequentially the 'Awakening Awareness' that is the True Source of 'self' begins to 'stand up from the dead' (Yehoshua's Teachings) thru 'knowing self' as self discovers it's 'self both process are a Union...this process is Incremental, and spoken to in Tibetan Buddhism as the 'Accumulation Phase', of which there are three types: Accumulation and a connection Will-not take place in this lifetime,;Accumulation Phase and connection May take place in this life time; Accumulation Phase & a connection Will take place in this life time..
...these Phase are integrally bound to the Type of Mind the Seeker is running, of which there are 4: Sudra, Vaishya, Kshatriya, or Brahmana, (no-poles present, one pole present, two pole present undifferentiated, two poles present differentiated and in process of become Integrated, resulting in the Union-with-UNION which is Advaita in Essence & Functionality)...these 4 Mind-types in Western terms are Pathologized: Border-line-personality, Uni-polar-depressive, bi-polar manic depressive, and a forth type which has no name, but by default is the mind-type of the Psychiatrist, as they use their functionality as baseline for their Pathology: in Yehoshua's Teachings: Mind of the Meek, Merchant-mind (Judgmentally-based) mind of the Pharisee/Sadducee, and the Anointable-Mind/Mind-of-Christ: these 4-Mind-Types are synonymous within each Tradition...
The Woman is exhibiting Undifferentiated Kshatriya mind at the Transition Plateau to Brahmana, but the Method she is running is flawed -fundamentally,,,All she requires is basic training in Awareness-of-self Methods, coupled with the understanding that her genetic Linage is Western, and the fundamental difference between east and west is in the East 'Uprooting' the 'self' is the baseline premise to ALL Eastern Practices, while the Western Linage the 'self' must 'lay down it's Life for it's Brother', and that brother is the unconscious 'Awareness' that is 'Laying down dead/comatose' behind the 'self' and is the Source of 'self'...and that is the difference between East & West and the reason you could not help her, only frustrate her by repeating over and over to the 'self' standing before you, Rupert, repeating things that have not worked for her in the past...
She begins by stating: "I keep finding my 'self'": her the 'I' is Speaking unconsciously, the 'self' is unconsciously taking ownership of what is said, not 'parsing what is said. and then 'self-will' as 'owner of the mind/body' runs around using self-will to try and find that which 'self' is supposed to turn it's 'self-will' over to, the awareness-within...simple 'self-will-run-riot' coupled with low-self-esteem (Virginia Satir) and it is low-self-esteem that stops her 'self' and most of the rest of the Western World, from proceeding successfully along the Spiritual Path...now the Direct Path is a whole-other-matter, and beyond the scope of this woefully incomplete treatment/analysis of Rupert's interaction with this Seeker...
    Now, regarding this statement below:
"Enlightenment is not an experience. It is not something that happens to you. It is not something to be found. It is simply the recognition of your being. Of the nature of your being". Simply beautiful.
These are all 'Abstract Ideas', Intellectualizations that have no concrete application upon the Path: They can give 'mental relief' to a mind that is suffering, BUT they do not result in Union-with-UNION_EXISTS...They are part of the Eastern Path, and are a dis-service and false-path for Western Minds (reasons for this are beyond the scope of this message)
Understand, the 'self' is Experience...it is Comprised Fully of 'experiences', and the Union by 'self' with UNION IS an Experience as 'self' can only experience and is made-up of Experiences...a Tautology the 'self' is, and only the inexperienced with the 'experience' of UNION can say the Union is not something 'self' experiences, as 'self' would not exist if Experience did not Exist, and the experience of EXISTS at the Human Level is all & only about Experiencing, Seeking, and Finding Union, which is more like being Found & Rescued...And being Rescued IS a HAPPENING..it Happens to the self, and the Relief the 'Self' Experiences is Palpable...but the Eastern Way is Milk-Toast compared to the Western Path, Fully Viable and Complete Path the Eastern is, but it's Base-line premise is the reverse of the Western (Carl Jung)...
But I must leave off here, as my 'self' is Tiring, and to run this much energy through a 'self' has consequences (see Dali Lama's Oracles and life expectancy, they burn out channeling their intermittent Unions with EXISTS thru the Interface named 'Awareness'), so I must let 'him' rest, My Brother who laid down His Life for His BROTHER...thus I leave 'Hinting', which is 'Remes' of PRDS, PaRDeS Exegeses, for those who 'have an Ear-to-Hear'....😇😁

Sometimes aquisitions really do bring happiness. For example if you had to take public transport to commute to work and disliked it, obtaining a car would change that. Or more fundamentally if you were hungry, aquiring food would make you happy. And sometimes, it makes no difference, for example a second Tudor when you already have one, plus a Rolex, an Omega, and four Grand Seikos. Not much happiness in that I would say.

I appreciate what he's trying to do, and I totally empathise with what she's saying. As he goes through his analysis of the 'I' he says there is nothing more other than its recognition. But I'm not convinced.
Does this recognition bring about the same degree of insight as, say, Buddha? If so why do we say Buddha was omniscient because I don't believe that those who write on this page are omniscience after their 'awakening'.
By recognising this 'I' do I gain the same insight into what the Buddha meant when he spoke of our True Nature as 'Emptiness'?
I could go on and on, but fundamentally why did it take a spiritual giant such as Buddha, many years and great, almost life-threatening effort to simply recognise the 'I'?
    Something's wrong here!

15:00 This part is badly misunderstood by pretty much everyone. Rupert inquires about the drive for happines but fails to define it and this "floating" concept does a lot of harm if misunderstood. What should have transpired there is a direct questioning about the values one holds and the idea that the "attainment" of these values will allow oneself to "be" happy. "Oh! I have finally made it" feeling. There is no limited value that will ever satisfy you and you cannot have a limitless value atm.
There is manly one thing that we are seeking, the limitlessness. It is not found in the world of limits, but it can be reached by letting go of ones own investment in the limits.
"No porpuse" means the same thing as no value.

      Neither did I.
The whole supposition IS about God not being limited and our mind exercising its right of "free will" to thinks some thing other than that God has created and that is limited.
In 1896 a boy of 16 years got real scared about dying while being in his room and what he did is to sever his thoughts about his identity from this body. He no longer identified as a limited something. He did not identify as anything from that point and tried to communicate his findings to others. From his own words, silence is the best teacher. That boy was later know as Ramana Maharshi.

    To complement Mooji's words...
what people forget to address is what Jesus said BEFORE that. Before saying "no one comes to the Father except by me", he identified who he was. And he didn't say "I am Jesus from Nazareth, and no one comes to the Father..."
Rather he said: "I am the way, the truth, and the life...". So Jesus was NOT meaning: "you can only come to the Father by Jesus". Instead, he was meaning: "you can only come to the Father by... the way, the truth, and the life"....
"which, by the way, I am", he could have completed.

Nonduality denies the self and sense of agency, and encourages dissociation and depersonalization which is a type of spiritual bypassing. The narrative of self is also needed when exploring trauma and reality. Relationships are important, and nonduality fails to help one improve relationships through engaging a sense of self and a personal narrative. In other words: nonduality is exclusive and claims to be the "correct" way of relating with the world and oneself in an irrefutable way. If it were truly beneficial, then it would be complimentary with non-nondual perspectives. That it is not.
The need or desire to be in a nondual state is more of a novelty that can and does for some becomes a distraction. Bliss is preferred over normal egoic reality which we all need to function and experience the world.

They don't track it, so they don't know. Whereas the more systematic paths DO have a reasonable accounting of all these things. The IAM is not the ultimate state, it is not non dual, it is one major step on the path, and is required to reach the non dual state, but it has seven levels, before the non dual state is reached. So I have to say this is not non dual, it could be you have reached the IAM consciousness level, which I may add is a permanent state, and in Yoga the IAM is Samadhi, for the IAM to become non dual, it has to be absorbed one CHAKRA at a time, until the IAM is totally absorbed,
The IAM is a consciousness and for something to be conscious there must be two, the consciousness and that which is aware of it, this is why the IAM is dual, but as was said is needed to reach the farther, which is the non dual state, and as also as said, the assention through the chakras are essential to reach the non dual state, whether the practitioner is aware of that fact or not, absorption level of meditation is required to reach your inner being, and Kundalini and the Chakras are the absorbtion process, and at the IAM level of consciousness, if it been reached as a permanent state, is the depth of meditation when the absorbtion process starts, and I have to say Rupert, stop calling the Yogis ans Masters or anyone else, because the old methods are required, and there are things that need doing,, like meditation for instance, where do you think this came from, if we don't need none of the stuff that's been handed down, it cannot interlectually be attained, and this has the feel of interlectual non dualism to me.

So tell us about Abraham. You remember where you were before YOU were born? No. You did not exist. And you will again cease to exist. Man don't waste your time studying this psyops bs that they are doing on people. There's no such thing as "enlightenment". Enlighten is just another word for 'being informed of'. You are already "enlightened", you just don't know it because your trying to chase it when it's already there.

It's not easy to listen to the "question" of every egoistic, ungrateful lunatic. Seems like an eternity.

Forgetting and then Remembering who I am/ who we are is a game we play. When the game gets really intense, we suddenly remember. It is an eternal game.

Trupti or satiation is the sign of having arrived at a destination that is nothing other than you. This I am told happens when we stop all other than sadhanas, like, say, focussing with an analogue camera.

"Want" isn't the key issue the key is "I" or "me" always in your sentence. May you "I""me" free.

Great textual citation by Mooji. Very Vedantic!
