If relationships have become as complex as her talk suggests than I wonder how many people will simply say no to relationships when you consider that the complexity and underlying reasons suggests failure is almost guaranteed anyway.

Maybe now more than ever we have to work a lot in our relationships, but because we expect home to be a resting place from work, few want to keep working at home. If you are wilking to work on your relationship then chances of failing are lower, if you are not, you will for sure end up alone.
oh this is brilliant and you know... it's not just infidelity but even rejection... it is catastrophic when you find out that this person who you gave up 'your life' for ends up just rejecting you! it's almost more understandable if there's an affair but when it's just that they lose interest! this is what is also happening... people deciding actually that they would like to go back to being single like before they had this idea of being in a relationship... I think that people don't really know what they want anymore. it's too complicated. It was easier when things weren't based on what we want.
Enjoy her presentation and she's clearly brilliant, but I don't love blanket statements like, "Quality of life goes up in marriage for men, and down for women." How are you defining QoL? What are the metrics being applied? I have heard the opposite claim, as well.
