Well my brakes were too good but my tires were not up to snuff. Locked up all 4 tires even with abs and managed to crunch my hood under a 94 escalade. Nose of my car dove under the escalade and as the suspension rebounded it dented my hood. Could say i should have braked sooner but i only scratched the suv. Another car had cut me off blocking my vision and then jumped into another lane just as it neared the suv left me with roughly five car lengths to go from 40 to 0. Physics was not on my side.
Got saved by reflexes rather than the poor stock brakes. I can relate to most of the parts in the video as I was looking for a big brake upgrade for my ToyoVan and even contacted Wilwood but since this model was not sold in North America no bolt on solutions exist.
I agree on the blend this episode had for the presenters. Michael was a great host, able to interface with Jay and Erik's two styles in a natural/communicable way. Iit feels like I'm watching Powerblock again.
I just removed Corvette calipers and installed a set of Wilwoods on my 94 Impala SS, 6 Piston on the front, 4 Piston on the rear along with their prop valve and 1" Master cylinder. The difference is absolutely amazing. It's different car when comparing the two. You will be happy with the brakes,

I never fail to learn a thing or two from one of these videos! I hadn't considered the distortion of a one piece rotor under high heat, that's an interesting point. Also, can we get a video on a foolproof way to bleed brakes? Because DAMN do I struggle with that hahaha

How much bore you need on the master is based on how much volume you need to hit full travel on your caliper pistons plus some extra for expansion of the brake lines. I was told by a GM brakes engineer that they spec the master to be oversized so that 2/3 peddle travel will result in 100% pad contact. I am working on a Jeep YJ that will have an 8 bolt Dana 44 front axle and upgraded brakes were on my list of things to cover as the target tire size is 40". Wilwood brakes came to mind for the swap, will be hitting you guys up for some info when I get further along on the project.

Wildwood, good hubs and chintzy brakes. They shouldn't have to guess and check master cylinder bore sizes if they do their brake calcs and measure the corner weights , measure the corner weights again with one end lifted (to estimate the cg height), and know the wheel base. At least they're using a balance bar instead of one of their in-line prop valves.
I grew up on a propane truck. There were guys buying propane kits to put on diesel pickups. Effective cutting down miles/gallon. Farm tractors would break axles.
These brakes are awesome! I have a full set (pads, rotors, and calipers) of PowerStop, Z36 brakes on my truck! They're so strong that, during the pad bedding procedure, the truck nearly did a stopee before the ABS kicked in! Haha! The smaller the bores of the master cylinder and caliper the higher the line pressure to do the same work. You should be able to generate 1200 psi in most hot rod applications during a panic stop.
