Dakota fire pit (Cup of tea)

  • This was a good Practice. Very useful and stealthy.
    Poachers fire. This was new info to me.
    I dug the Dakota fire pit with a piece of wood and my hand.
    Lesson's learnt and predominately material from the woods I used. I also had the following with me.
    Flint and steel
    Cotton wool
    Nalgene bottle with water
    Lixada pot with handles on the side and the top of the cup.
    Tea bag
    Grill which I had in the Cellar

    My uncle showed me how to make these 40+ years ago. He called it a poachers fire. From what I recall, you have to be careful with them near trees, you can ignite the roots which can burn under ground for a long time.
    I was taught to line the interior with rocks which had the advantages of giving some protection to roots and heating up so you had an oven to use after the wood burned down.
