- This weekend we open our Winter Concert, in partnership with the Tucson Desert Song Festival. This diverse program offers audience members the chance to experience the versatility of ballet with four unique premieres, one of which has been over 30 years in the making.
"Himiko", a new ballet created by our Artistic Director and Resident Choreographer Chieko Imada, explores the legendary third-century Japanese Queen Himiko. She is a historical figure that Imada has always felt drawn to and it has been a lifelong dream for her to create this ballet.
We are proud to collaborate with internationally acclaimed musicians Duo Chinoiserie to bring this legend to life. They will perform live onstage with our Ballet Tucson Dancers thanks to our annual partnership with the Tucson Desert Song Festival. They perform a variety of music including original work by award-winning composer Yusuke Nakanishi in collaboration with Tucson Guitar Society.
“Finally after three decades, my dream comes true", says Chieko Imada about her world premiere. "I appreciate this moment and look forward to sharing it with our patrons.”
Don't miss this exciting concert. also featuring legendary choreographer George Balanchine's "Allegro Brillante", Price Suddarth's "Borderland", and Artistic Director Margaret Mullin's "Romeo & Juliet Pas de Deux".
