I love how this sounds like it's waking up. Like the ancient and medieval are very slow and peaceful, but industrial and atomic just ramp up to such an ominous and threatening sound. I love it.
The ancient doesn't sound peaceful at all. It sounds like music used when showing a once successful proud and beautiful civilization being in ruins and with people dead after an ominous mist has lifted over the city, with symbols and ruined images of a once utopian civilization turned dead and forgotten in time
The melody is Gjendines Bånlåt, a lullaby orginally sung by Gjendine Slålien. It was written down by Grieg when the two met in Jotunheimen in 1891. She sung it to him while milking the cows, and Grieg wrote it down resting his papers on the back of a cow. In english: The child is placed in the crib Sometimes smiling, sometimes crying Sleep now, sleep now, in the name of Jesus Jesus keep the child safe My mother took me in her arms danced with me back and forth Then they dance, with the little ones, So shall the child sleep
@@stefanoviola03 I'm a native Norwegian, and it's one of the easier languages to learn, essentially on par with English, but German uses one grammatic case that doesn't exist in Scandinavian and the phonetics are much less harsh (if you're learning Bokmål Norwegian as opposed to the south-western dialect which sounds more Danish/German).

This is the music I hear after him telling me my cities are "all to easy to raid" and he's standing there with that fucking smile on his face holding his helmet, me just knowing in 5 turns he will denounce me and then declare a war.
As your civilizations grow through the ages, as you learn of new weapons, as you have new policies, there’s one thing that you wish that hadn’t been done. Too many capitals on the coast
New to civ, after Science and Religion, I went for my first Domination Victory with Norway. At first their theme gave a weird sense of melancholy. But as the song evolved along with the eras, I realized: I was the bad guy. The sadness wasn't for my people, but for the poor heretic souls we slayed so that we may bring glory to Odin.
It sounds tense and really cool and it sounds even better when you understand Harald Hardrada as a historical figure. The guy was a 7ft tall man and was very muscular so seeing him charging at you with an axe would be terrifying and I think civ 6 orchastra really captured that.
schoob no one said that he wasn't a man. so i dont know why you had to point that out. genghis khan and julius ceasar were also men. and i suppose you are a man. Daniel Harsch only said that a 7ft tall viking charging at you with an axe is terrifying.
in the stories from the 11th centure he is 7ft, so of course there is no proof. And he might have been as terrifying as the rest of the vikings, if you couldn't see that it was him specifically. Remember he was a very infamous viking at that time. I wont let this go since i find it very amusing. Can you please just tell me what was the point of saying: "Killed by a nameless archer" "So I wouldn't be so quick to terror if I had a bow... he was just a man, was my point."
As someone both well-trained in music theory and a staunch lover of both this particular game and the series from the start... it's amazing how different the impact of this score is between when the game was first released and the changes after Gathering Storm... Upon release, this was easily the most forgettable theme to a civ that was a meme without any real advantages towards any particular playstyle. But now, as a civ with a unique advantage gained only gained through extremely aggressive strategies unleashing nearly unequaled advantage, this becomes the absolute most memorable theme - either to fear as someone opposing him or to relish as someone playing as him.
It's something incredible to feel when a civ's theme matches their play-style. It's the sorta thing that makes me wish that Russia was a bit more viable for domination as their theme sounds really intimidating in the later stages of the game.
I love this. Mostly because Gåte (a norwegian band) made a beautiful version of this lullaby by Grieg. One of my favorite themes in the game (besides Zulu, Mapuche, Netherlands...)
It always looks like he's flipping me off in this picture which is a pretty accurate representation of how he feels about me each time I play against him.
The ancient and medieval melodies are like as if a mother is whispering to her sleeping baby that his father will come back soon after burning down and pillaging Rome, through this harsh weather to make them warm.
I can certainly see it from the sounds of low discordant theme, and the fact that among other things it sounds like a slow march through the terrain For me it radiates the energy of a nation that resides deep within the curtains of snow, but will very well appear in its full force, the nation living on through a hard and stern rule

Making a lullaby sound like something terrifying?
Thanks Norway.
Our culture has always been modest and somewhat gloomy, at least in terms of national music.
Fitting for the Hard-Ruler, though. You don't give a Norwegian warrior-king an upbeat theme.
