Yeah, that game had it's flaws but it was really unique, especially with the way you used your ship to enter and exit levels. Man..... such a long time ago now.
I love that the 3D cyberdemon stuck to a low-res texture set so that it fits with the rest of the games art style. Too many times people put 3D monsters in a WAD and give them high-res textures and it looks clunky as fuck. Remember that happening a lot with the Doomsday engine.
Reminds me of how the N64 port of Duke Nukem 3D gave the Cycloid Emperor a 3D model rather than a sprite (I guess that was Eurocom’s way to show off their 3D tech that they’d use in Zero Hour).
15:56 For literally DECADES, I thought that was the bloody neck-stump of a decapitated body. Only now, with this partial sprite, do I learn it's actually the broken helmet, with blood oozing out of the break at the lower right.
This mod is just pure brilliant - I'm almost tempted to use the tired argument of, "why can't we have good games like this coming out of bigger studios". But the answer is simply, they can't make anything of this quality of fun any more, so why bother, the DOOM modding community will blow them out of the water every single time :P
Just playing it now. It's nothing like Half Life in terms of gameplay. It's much better :D it's faster, more dynamic, has better level design and the weapons just feel much more devastating

This is shaping up to be a terrific mod. I playtested an earlier build when its creator, Kraja, posted it on the Doomworld forums back in 2020 and I was well-impressed with it back then. It's great to see all the progress they've made with it since.
A lot of devs forget that in an FPS, your gun is your character! This mod nails that (along with several other DooM mods) with half the team and budget of “AAA”

You do know that these mods are done by 1 or 2 people with absolutely no money, right? like, not even a cuarter, let alone half of money and released for free and most AAA games are done by hundreds of people across different studios. Wtf are you talking about? Do you even know how something is made? WTF?
The animations look weird because in some instances instead of using different sprite frame, they rotate the current frame around which looks super weird and gives an impression as if it's an image printed on paper.
I like the look of this and will eagerly follow it's development. Bullet Ballets are fun and all, but I tend to prefer these intricate, detailed, and tense encounters and environments over massive battlefields of monsters all at once. A few well placed monsters in a tight environment is always more thrilling I think.
I LOVE the more atmospheric and innersive levels. Especially the OSTs by Aubrey Hodges. Doom CE is the PS1 versions but better. Totally different experience. You'd enjoy it if you haven't tried it already. With fast monsters turned on it feels extra diabolical.

I did used to watch my older brother play games when I was a kid and comment on what was happening, but that's a bit different than watching strangers play games over the internet alongside other strangers for money. That being said, listening to Icarus play, and watching what he plays scratches my doom itch. I don't have the computer specs, and Bethesda quit adding mods to the console doom games, so I take what I can get. That being said, it's all gravy for me.
I'm only on level 3, but if what I've seen so far is any indication of the quality of the final product then it could well be one of the best Doom mods I've played. Or shooters in general.
I had Babel Monsters on at the death sandwich bit in map 3. It doesn't affect monsters consistently, but it did mean that the Hell Knights threw much faster, and the Barons were throwing triple projectiles. Only way I managed to survive was immediately dropping the two Barons upstairs and taking back the balcony to fire into the crowd below.
When I saw that tablet explaining things at the start. I thought this mod was going to have some sort of mechanic allowing you to resurrect after death. Apparently not.

honestly, this is great and I can't wait for the full release. The only criticism I have is the enemy sprites. It's kinda like when gearbox released the HD models for half-life. Like the doom 3 Cyberdemon fits well, it's just that it's quite distracting seeing the vanilla sprites contrasting the more HD ones

OH MY FUCKING GOD, THE SLEDGEHAMMER SPRITE IS JUST A SPRITIFIED PULVERIZER FROM KILLING FLOOR 2, a game that USED to have a solid melee class which is now wet tissue paper compared to anything else, the Pulverizer is a heavy duty metal sledgehammer outfitted with a mag and trigger system that essentially creates an explosion on whack impacts, IT EVEN HAS SPRITES OF IT\S INGAME DIRECTIONAL SWINGS

If a pump action shotgun is pumped sideways with the ejection port facing up, wouldn’t doing so cause ejection failures? Doesn’t really look cool either.
Fun fact: Rocket duels can't damage the cyber well, so why do mappers keep loading you up with rockets to this day? Seriously confused I thought we got over this hump in the early 2000's

I love that you just triggered everything at once and fuckin booked it for the red keycard fight, but I feel like you missed out. The lava floor damage is surprisingly insignificant, so battling those five encounters in sequence becomes a mix of using your one pillar for cover, and strategically losing some shreds of health to circle strafe your more aggressive foes.
When did the term "kiting" come from? Never heard of it before until I was streaming last week and someone told me to try it. I thought he meant killing. Now in this Icarus uses it 3 times. !?

And even the bullet ballet parts seem very well designed. This mod seems to really "get" both styles of encounter, and what makes them fun to best!
