      I had a similar background and though I was becoming successful as an illustrator and painter, There where too many people and businesses that would rip me off so I switched to graphics/advertising so I could count on a paycheck to raise my kids. Now decades later I'm back to painting... watercolors the hardest medium for me. but daily I do better and it is exciting. As a young child, I took colored hair ribbons and dipped them in water and it would turn the water colors, it was so beautiful lol and I said to myself that is what I'm going to do when I grow up. Here I am 1/2 century + later dipping my brushes into water colors. Anyways I love your story, I found it motivating . Thank you.

    I wanted to thank you for this video. Im someone who is in college for business and felt like i had lost my own creatuve spark. With how busy i am, i forgot to find the time to create. I just wanted to let you know you encouraged me to try out watercolor in a more serious manner. I dont paint much, i like pencils and markers, so it will definitely be a new experience. Thanks for your passion. It truly makes a difference❤

      Wow! Thanks for sharing. I believe if we take time for restorative activities in the middle of our busy days, the time we do spend doing our work (or studies) can be even more productive, because we come back to them refreshed and refocused. I wish you well.

    I worked for Disney for 7 years where my personal art often took a back seat. I've recently started relearning watercolor after people away from it for that many years. I came across your videos and they have helped me immensely to re-find and grow my skills.

    Yes ma'am! The results are often not very good but I'm in LOVE with the process of watercolor, so I'll keep at it.

    Thank you for sharing. It's always inspirational to hear other's stories. As as aside, the like button didn't work when I pushed it. Seems to be happening to many sites lately. Is there a glitch in TH-cam somewhere?

    • @KrisDeBruineStudio
      @KrisDeBruineStudio  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Thanks for the feedback, Terry. I share this story whenever I teach a watercolor class. Students have told me it has helped them overcome their own artistic block or to get motivated again. Yay! Makes me happy. As to the TH-cam glitch. I haven't experienced a problem with the like button. TH-cam has a "Send Feedback" button on every page....to report issues, if you want to give that a try. Have a great day.

    Oh, YES to everything! I recognized Mt Baker! Gorgeous spot to learn in! I was just encouraging a friend in a FB group to spend time drawing, because that's the only way we learn... and to try ink, because that doesn't disappear like pencil can. Keep on encouraging others because so many are helped by it!

    Ah ha! A citizen of the Upper Left! No wonder I drifted toward your site. I retired a few years ago with a huge lapse of not painting for myself. Art school at university shut me down, no help, just sharp remarks and put downs guaranteed to make painting strike fear in my heart. The comments still resonate in my head from all those years ago. I do need to relaunch. Many thanks for this channel.

    Hi Kris! I have been swatching some of my paints, when I realized that the old ROYGBIV order of color from the rainbow, usually is not the order of paint manufacturers colors. They start with yellow. Now, I realize if you just put it in a circle, red goes to orange, orange to yellow and so on. But why do they start with yellow instead of red? Does it matter? It bugs me, so apparently it matters, at least to me. Do you know anything about this? I hope you can shed some light!

    • @KrisDeBruineStudio
      @KrisDeBruineStudio  6 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Hi Vicki. This is a great question. The reason for putting yellow at the top is that this positions the lightest colors (lightest in relative value) to the darker colors at the bottom (darkest value blues and purples). Now there are some dark reds too....but generally speaking, yellows, oranges, greens are typically lighter in value than blues, purples and reds. Make sense??

    • @VickiWalton
      @VickiWalton 6 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      @@KrisDeBruineStudio, thank you. Yes. It makes sense. It still bothers me, because if the Creator of the Universe ordered it with red first, I want to as well. I like the wheel better, where you can put the red at the top and it all makes sense in my brain. But, I couldn't figure out why everything I saw put yellow first. Thanks for the info!
