    Last year I put 100 baby koi from cuttlebrook in a 4feet tank all when really good aerated and heated tank 25 degree good growth through winter and in the spring up them in small 2000 litre pool all doing great ,
    I've just ordered another 100 from cuttlebrook this ,we really enjoyed growing them on ,the first lot of koi will go in big main pool for winter 10k pool 6feet deep

      Nice that’s a really smart tactic to grow on fry I do that as well keeping them in a tank over winter usually helps them grow a-lot faster glad to here that it all went well with them.

    There's only one way you can keep koi in a aquarium, and that's keeping any koi under 4-5" in a tank no smaller than 30 gallons (per koi). That will last for 3-5 years, then they need to go in a small pond minimum, whether in or out door. If you keep a koi in a aquarium for too long they will get health issues and croak. That's a promise, they won't make it. If you want to keep an aquarium just keep fancy goldfish, but a koi will eventually have to go into a small pond, they need the ecosystem and area, for they produce a ton of waste.

      I managed to keep 2 koi in a 35 gallon bow tank for 2 years, until they got to 10" and 12". I moved them to a 75 gallon for 3 years until they reached 18" and 20". This spring I dug a 1000 gallon pond, and they spawned for 3 days after I moved them. It destroyed the cycle I had going for 2 months before moving them.
      The end of their time in either tank was dictated by the difficulty to keep the water clean, and the fish happy. I had many struggles in the 5 years of raising these 2 koi but, I'm comfortable with the things learned over this time, and I now have 3 koi (4-5") in the 75 gallon. Everyone seems happy, and healthy, regardless of parameter troubles, and it's been a month now.
      It's all in the attention to certain details, if you ask me. Don't mess with water TOO much when a problem arises. Slow, and steady wins the race when you catch it in time.

      @@ReefahCheef Appreciate you sharing, currently keep my baby Yamabuki Ogon (Golden) in a 30 gallon breeder (tall) along with a smaller Wakin. For whatever reason the Wakin is either getting bullied, or has a bad case of fin rot, which is weird because my parameters are flawless, and the Koi has zero issues. Seems to be slowly healing, I add API Stress Coat+ when I change the water, hopefully it heals. The Koi is getting really big, really fast! Going to start looking at 300 gallon tanks or start building a pond. 🐸 🐢 🐟

    I've got two koi a comet and a gold fish for more than a year, the koi isn't really growing and now they just lay down at the bottom of the tank, tank size is 160 liters.

    • @UkKoiFish
      @UkKoiFish  ปีที่แล้ว +6

      It may be to do with the fact that the tank is to small for the koi. Also the water parameters may be off .

    Do you think I could get away with two 7.5 inch koi in a 100-150 gallon tank for 3 months? Just until spring when it’s warm enough to put them in my pond. What’s the smallest tank size you’d recommend for this scenario?

    • @praisethesun2373
      @praisethesun2373 9 หลายเดือนก่อน

      yes thats more than enough. Keeping koi in aquariums imo is totally possible and it's very common in Japan for example for the casual koi keeper (not everything is a mud pond over there). Key things will just be: not overfeeding, good filtration, and a neutral water temperature of not too cold but not too warm, 72-74F is a nice middle spot.

    I have a 300-gallon tank through which I have a constant flow of fresh water flowing around the clock, and I currently have 17 Koi all about four inches in length. The tank measures 7 feet long by 3 feet 6 inches deep by 3 feet wide, and the inflow of water drops 5 feet from an overhead pipe to aerate it before it reaches the aquarium water surface.
    Do you think the fish will remain healthy if I grow them to 2 feet in length or greater in this aquarium? I do have an outdoor pond but I like seeing the koi in the aquarium and intend to keep them in the aquarium for as long as possible. Any thoughts you can share on my dastardly plan would be appreciated.

      You need 250 gallon per koi. So no. When they are small of course you can fit 3 but they will grow stunted and unhealthy and die after a few years. Kois need a depth of 3 feet min, 4 feet ideal, to get the right water pressure to grow properly.

  • @Ahsan_Levelup
    @Ahsan_Levelup ปีที่แล้ว

    • @UkKoiFish
      @UkKoiFish  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      How many fish do you have together, when you have smaller number they tend to be far more scared and less active. Alternatively some fish are just far less active due to their genetic.

    Is over-wintering for about 3 months in a 75 gallon ethical for 2 koi who are about 4 inches? I don’t want to abuse my fish but I’m unable to dig a deep enough pond until next year.

    • @UkKoiFish
      @UkKoiFish  ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Hi I’d say that I’d it is only 3 months then it may be ok. Although I would say just keep an eye on how large they get. If the water quality is gd then the only side effect you could face is stunted growth but if it is only for 3 months then there should be no issue
