    • @dunnadidit

      When you are setting up your custom modes, you can make sure you’re in the mode that you want it to be already. For example, go into M mode, create your settings and then save it to one of the spots. But once you’re in a memory recall mode, you can’t change the exposure mode as far as I’m aware

    Hey what’s up Dunna! Always appreciate these great videos you make! This one was a game changer when I got the A7S III. Best of the best!! A question for you when you have the opportunity. I’ve also been filming with the A7S III and have been filming more sports recently. Typically shoot 4K 120 for high pace sports, although 240 fps would be a great option. On the A7S3, the 240fps is in S&Q mode in HD. Although S&Q doesn’t provide audio. Sound would be key for some of the sports. Any idea if there’s a way to use some type of external audio recorder while filming S&Q and then somehow sync the audio and video in Davinci Resolve ?? Typically shoot with a shotgun mic although I don’t have that much background with audio options. Guessing it would have to be an external audio recorder for S&Q. Any Ideas ? Thank you, greatly appreciate it! Cheers!

    Why is the 'M' photo mode, Movie mode, and S&Q mode all linked?
    When I'm shooting video I always have a Picture Profile enable, but I don't want to for photos.
    I shoot 1/50 in video, but my still shutter is different.
    When I make any changes to one, it makes changes to all modes.
    Why is this going on?
    Is this normal?
    How am I supposed to save my settings in video mode without it changing the settings in still mode?
    *Without having to use my 1 of 2 custom dials.
    Isnt the point of changing to the Movie dial to have the video settings, and then photo settings in the M mode?

      @@dunnadidit I didn't find it. I mean, can I assign modes 1,2 and 3 only to filming, e.g. mode 1 is 4K, 24p, mode 2, hd.24p, and the 3 slow motion mode 240 fps AND independent modes 1, 2 and 3 only for shooting mode 1, 2, 3 - each other settings? I tried to do it, but it fails, each saved mode, for .eg. mode 1, (for shooting) OVERWRIT the previous settings for filming (also no. 1)

    • @dunnadidit
      @dunnadidit  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Maybe I’m not fully understanding what you’re asking? You can have different custom buttons for video and photo mode. But if you’re asking if you can have photo custom mode 1,2,&3 and then separate video custom mode 1,2, & 3 then no I don’t believe so. Your custom mode 1,2, & 3 will be either photo...or... video mode depending on what mode you were in when you set it

    I love your straight forward breakdown of the options available in the menu and how to set them up. I shoot mostly Real Estate footage and use a gimbal, so I am unsure just yet what will be the best for my memory custom keys. Your introduction has given me a good roadmap to follow. You come across as a warm and friendly individual on camera which gives a great feeling of learning as I am new to Sony and the a7Siii. The menu, although new and improved, is still not as intuitive as Canon, so I am very thankful for your help. Thanks again. Best, Mark. PS I have subscribed to your channel. By any chance, do you know if there is a hack to get the Sony a7Siii to work with the Zhiyun Crane 2S. I was spoiled with the Canon as I could control shutter speed, ISO, F-stop, follow focus and record from the gimbal. So far I have only figure out how to get the record button to work for the Sony with the Gimbal. If you don't know, I will have to adjust to reaching up to the camera and this is where those memory custom buttons may be of assistance. Both Sony and Zhiyum have offered little help. Thanks again.

    • @dunnadidit
      @dunnadidit  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Thanks a ton for the kind words. I think the menu not being as "intuitive" as Canon's comes down to experience with a specific system to be honest. Any time I have picked up a Canon camera, I am always like "I have no idea where to find anything and none of this makes any sense at all" lol. But I really think that this comes down to the fact that I'm used to the way Sony has done things, even with the old menu, and I understand the system they're using. I'm sure you'll get used to it eventually!
      As far as the Crane 2S... unfortunately I'm not familiar but I'm pretty sure as long as you have the right cable it's possible. Might be worth reaching out to zhiyun to see if they can help! Good Luck!

    • @cinemasterproductions6940
      @cinemasterproductions6940 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@dunnadidit You are so Correct. Agreed, I am sure with use it will become more intuitive. Good point.
      Crane only has the record function mentioned above available for Sony. However, I have learned the the Ronin RS2 does offer a lot of the controls discussed, but with trade offs. Example, loss of IBIS. Go figure. At a $1000 US price point I am not willing to trade one set of challenges for another. That said, if it comes up again, you now have a reference point.
      As to Device name of Dunna_A7S3, I think that is part of the meta data,(???) if so, you will own every other videographer's footage and pictures. (That could be good or bad) Laughing.
      Thanks again, Mark

      Just tried this out with the 16-35 and it worked just fine as long as I’m in movie shooting mode. When I switched over to photo mode it got greeted out.

    Love the video!!! Serious question- is there a way to save the current video settings so when you switch to manual(photo) and go back to video mode it goes back to those settings? So that I don’t have to switch the settings every time I go from photo to video? I always have to turn off picture profile and switch a bunch of things and it’s really annoying to switch back and forth!!! Please help!!! :)

    Great video! I’m shooting with your HLG settings for my Sony a7siii. Would you recommend using the same HLG3 settings for my a7iii when I use it as my B camera?

    • @dunnadidit
      @dunnadidit  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Yeah! If you’re matching them together you can totally make things easier by shooting with the same picture profile. You might have to make some slight changes in your grade for them to fully match but they should be VERY close

    Sir canon r5 10bit bitrate higher than sony a7s3
    Can R5 file give more flexbility in colour grading than a7s3

    • @dunnadidit
      @dunnadidit  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      I don’t have first hand experience with the r5 footage but bitrate doesn’t matter as much as people think. If you have great compression, you can have smaller bitrates without loss in quality or the ability to edit. For example, within the a7s3 itself, I can record 100mbps 10 bit 4:2:2 xavcs or 100mbps 10 bit 4:2:2 xavc hs but because there is a more efficient compression method, the hs keeps more information... EVEN THOUGH THEY’RE THE SAME MBPS. So bitrate is really only a small part of the picture. And the Sony xavc codecs are fantastic in my experience. I doubt you’d notice the difference when trying to grade between the two cameras.

  • @georgekbaby
    @georgekbaby 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    Hi . Good video. We all know it's a video priority camera. even though in spec sheet video bitrates are less than Fuji xT4. Can you explain that pls? thank you

    • @dunnadidit
      @dunnadidit  3 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Bitrate isn't just about "more is better" its about efficiency, technically, if you have a more efficient compression, you can retain more information in a smaller package. For example, just within this camera itself, the xavcs 24fps is 100mbps and the xavc hs is also 100mbps and yet the HS is a more efficient compression so it keeps more information in the same amount of space. The trade off with smaller file sizes and compression like that is that its harder on the computer to decode as it plays. So higher bit rate doesn't necessarily mean better quality... it could just mean less efficient compression...or less compression altogether like the xavc s-i version. So long story short, just looking at the numbers of bitrate doesn't really tell you much haha.

    what cards are people using to shoot video? I wont shoot much 4k120 but it would be nice to have! I have a ninja v so everyone's favorite hard drives for that would be cool too!

    • @dunnadidit
      @dunnadidit  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I’m primarily using the prograde v90 128gb cards. But you don’t even really need to go too crazy with cards unless you want to shoot in some of the more intensive bitrates.
      As far as the ninja v drive, I use a wd blue 1tb ssd.
