Andrew Zimmern Cooks: Beef Tataki

  • This easy Japanese tataki is stunning and tastes even better. With a simple dish like this, buy the best beef you can get your hands. Because it’s served very rare, using a tender, luxury cut like sirloin is important-trust me, it’s worth spending the extra bucks. Skip the store bought ponzu, my homemade version is truly the star of this recipe. Make a double batch and keep it on hand as a dipping sauce or marinade for fish, pork or chicken.

    I ordered this a few days ago and i when the server brought it to me i was taken a back. And then i tried it and its was my favorite thing on the menu. Soft and tender with an INCREDIBLE flavor. Mine definitely more rare. They literallt seared it for a max of 20 seconds.

    Why is this not the most popular recipe for beef tataki??? Lord, this is a super simple recipe that can be done at home with minimal skill set. Explained beautifully, nice and slow. Thank you for sharing Chef!!

    2 weeks ago I tried my very first Tataki beef at a japanese ramen bar, when they held an Izakaya event and I immediately melted on spot when I had my first slice of tataki beef in my mouth. so tasty I had to order seconds haha
    missing this so now I'll try to make it myself! let's hope that I can find ready ponzu sauce if I can't make it myself

    My sis took me to a japanese restaurant once and the waiter recommended beef tataki for picky-ass me, since i don't like fish. I've never eaten anything that melts in the mouth as that dish. I definetly have to try this recipe.

    I would think a slightly sweet soy sauce mixed with the beef juices,and ginger would be a kicker !

    I enjoy eating this at a Japanese restaurant here in NYC, which is actually located in Koreatown, but they frequently run out of it by the middle of service. I think I will eventually just make my own. Thanks, AZ, for info on the ponzu sauce!

    Up until this video, Tuna TATAKI was my favorite decadent appetizer but this I HAVE TO TRY b4 the summer is over.
    Rare is thee only way !
    Yeah BAY-BEE 😋 😎☝👍.
    I need a weekend where I'm all rested up from a long week of doing commercial HVAC. My mind needs to be clear, and relaxed to thoroughly enjoy this dish. Not tired from the weekday, working in the stinkin hot sun ! This dish and a ICE COLD BOTTLE OF LANDSHARK BEER 🍺 😋 👌 😍. PERFECT COMBO !

    That meat is way overcooked for tataki. Tataki is either raw or lightly seared, the meat in the video is almost medium, it's already past medium rare.

  • @thomaskotch4770
    @thomaskotch4770 ปีที่แล้ว

    The beef looks a little overcooked. Tataki should be raw after searing

  • @thomassmith4616

    Looks good but a tad too rare, I would still eat that for sure.

    • @lazypuck

      That’s how beef tataki is meant to be, if anything I’d say this is overdone 🤤🤤🤤 yum

    • @wayned535
      @wayned535 3 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      @@lazypuck i was about to say. His beef was seared for too long. Anything over 30 seconds is too long.
