With just the 4 songs that got air time in The States, the Seekers were among my top 5 favorites in the 60s. I new nothing else about them until youtube. I can't describe my feelings, finding them again and actually seeing them as in the 60s, hearing how Judith left them, etc. Here they have gotten back together, in the 90s and are unbelievably good. They still perform some, as of 2011. They are now my alltime favorites. I consider them phenominal and the musical group of the 20th century.

Was not paying much attention to them in the ‘60s what with marrying and moving over seas in ‘60s, but ditto about grateful for You Tube for bringing them to my attention. That Sound has to be among the blest things produced by the ‘60s.

Probably the greatest "comeback" record of all time. Absolutely uncanny, beyond reason and expectation that they could pick up where they left off 30 years previous, but this time as more fully mature adults. Maybe their best record ever, and also a palpable product of true collaboration. Updated without departing a whit from the classic formula that brought joy to millions. Brilliant. Guess you can't tell how much I like it...

Judith Durham is a lady who has received more praise for her staggeringly beautiful voice and wonderful singing than any other individual on TH-cam and none of it is undeserving. I should like to take the opportunity to heap some praise on those three lads who make up the rest of The Seekers. They, too, are outstandingly good musicians and musical arrangers in their own right and are a perfect accompaniment for Judith. All in all what a fabulous group they are and no wonder Australia is so proud of them.

Every time I turn around on YT, I find another reason to conclude that, back in their heyday in the 60's, we just didn't get enough of the Seekers here in the States.
We got "I'll Never Find Another You," "Morningtown Ride," "World of Our Own," and "Georgy Girl" - all spectacular, but that was it.
Yet there were 7 songs, just in that 1967 concert in -Sydney- Melbourne, that reportedly drew a crowd of 200,000.
This comeback came out in '97; why am I finding it only in 2020?
So many, many thanks to those putting up more performances of this exceptional band! Please keep 'em coming!

I can see why you got the venue wrong. It was at the Sidney Myer Music Bowl in Melbourne. It was about 10% of Melbourne’s population at the time.

    • @ffggddss
      @ffggddss 3 ปีที่แล้ว +2

@@ziggystardust52 Yeah, I found that out later, after several more rounds of Seekers vids, and lost track of this instance of that error.
I think I had seen "Sidney Myer Music Bowl" and mistakenly interpreted that as the "Myer Music Bowl" in Sydney. My bad!!
Thanks for the comment, which allowed me to return and correct myself.

These guys are amazing. I admit I have always struggled with "wholesomeness" but I cannot argue with Judith's voice and I have discovered they do have a nice, low-key, ironic sense of humour so, yes, I am still an admirer. My late mother so loved "The Carnival is Over" and I so love it too. It is nice to see them starting out again here. They clearly genuinely liked one another.

This is my favorite song from this album, and my second favorite song behind _I'll Never Find Another You_
Decidedly old fashioned sounding only without the 60's echo effect, but without sounding dated.
A wonderful thing they reunited and made some new music.
Obviously _Georgy Girl_ is the most recognizable song they did.

I am thankful for the day I found you, Judith Durham and the Seekers. Remember it like yesterday. It was a 1969 LP of The Carnival is Over, long lost record I found in the collection of my transgender friend's family collection, when I drove her to family reunion after the surgery, to hold her courage. I had to play it on an old Torrens gramophone, just for the purpose of hearing the oldest record in collection, very rare here in ex-Yugoslavia. Just loved it. Love still lasts!

Their potential for success in America in the 1960s was huge. Had they attended the April 1967 Academy Award show they would immediately reach stardom status and a world of opportunities outside Britain would open up for them. But as a group ( and later even Judith as a sole artist) they always had management problems, playing in small venues and seeing most of the money go to the managers and recording companies. Much of this might have been different if they had moved to America about 1968. But they didnt, even after regrouping in the 1990s.
