Folling on from a previous video ( • I CAN'T BELIEVE THIS W... ) alot of viewers have commented on whether running black diesel will result in an MOT emmisions failure.
In this video, we look to find out.

Hello, I have a 1997 mk2 Peugeot 306 TD. The limit on my car has a soot limit sticker stating 1.96 for a Bosch fuel pump and 2.4 for a Lucas. The car has a Lucas but I have a spare Bosch pump, lines, injectors and pulleys, in case I ever want to run on part veg oil. I'm pretty sure the Lucas wouldn't like it ! My recent MOT, done in January of this year resulted in the following :
    Test limit applied 1.50 l/m
    Absorption coefficient 0.58 l/m
    Absorption coefficient
    after correction 0.57 l/m
    Test type applied Fast Pass
    Test results Pass
My car has the main fuelling turned up a bit, but not massively. It ran so lean with the factory setting that passengers' heads were like nodding dogs when I changed gear. It goes much better and starts instantly since I turned the 4mm allen key inside the fuel pump by a mere 1/4 turn, i.e., through 90 degrees. I have a K&N air filter and a stainless exhaust with a back box and 2 and a half inch tailpipe. Had a chap much more knowledgeable than myself adjust the turbo wastegate so that it spools up at 1,500 RPM, rather than the OE 2,200 RPM, so, quite amazingly, I get really good local MPG of 53-54, whereas from the factory it was 46 - 47.

Thanks for your comment. I find that sometimes having more power from the engine can reduce fuel consumption as the engine doesn't need to work as hard to do its job

So what are the testing standards if you reg it as an alternative fuel vehicle?
Can you even do that on used oil?

Good question Si. To be honest I haven't looked as I don't do enough miles to ever need to.

What is the percentage of petrol in your used motor oil fuel?

    • @MarksWheels
      @MarksWheels  5 หลายเดือนก่อน

Usually 10 to 20% dependant on the weather /temperature

Can you Run on it .
Or is it Classed as Running on Red with the Road Side Checks.
      Just wondering

Be careful. Running a car on anything other than white diesel or biodiesel/veg oil carries the same penalty as running on rebated red diesel if the police stop you and dip the tank. Also, if you're an MOT AE, a conviction for tax evasion could affect your repute within the MOT scheme.

Thnaks for your comment brad. From the research I've done you can make up to 2500 litres per year without paying tax on it.

The rule you mention refers to biofuels and biofuel and hydrocarbon blends.

@@Brad-lt6mr Yes but all he would need to do to meet that rule would be to throw a litre of veg oil in with 2499L of his mix.
I'm sure I read something about reclaimed fuels being involved in it too - though I'm not up on the wording or full regs enough to make an informed comment on it.

Most of the oil that comes out of my engine is sooted up white diesel I already paid tax on anyway...😂

@@Brad-lt6mr to be honest most of the time the car runs on old cooking oil too. This is why it's taken me so long to make this video since the last one lol
