Can someone explain how the no quarter combat effect was used when the card was originally played for its help unlooked for effect?

Good catch! Though I said in my commentary that they got an extra hit, that was absolutely wrong, and you're totally right! They do not get an extra hit, since as you noted, they played Help Unlooked For as an event card, not a combat card. We did play things correctly, and if you watch the game log, you'll see that I only took 1 hit (which was correct). Just after the combat, I also mis-spoke on the audio saying "great play for Shadow" when in fact I thought it was a great play for FP to use Help Unlooked For in that way! :) Thanks for taking the time to comment!

Wow, not sending the Ents after Saruman at the first opportunity? Two cards with only one hit needed? That would have been an absolute automatic for me.

If they did that, I don't think the Fellowship would have had enough movement to reach Mordor that round? Giving Shadow 8 extra dice to win militarily (e.g. an extra turn without Saruman) might be a bad trade overall...
