🇳🇿 Managed Isolation in NZ / Mexico to New Zealand & Quarantine Vlog

แชร์

  • เผยแพร่เมื่อ 28 ก.ย. 2020
  • In this video, I travel back from Mexico, to my homeland of New Zealand.
    ** NEW REQUIREMENTS NOT MENTIONED IN THIS VIDEO **
    • Everyone returning from overseas must book their ticket for the two week managed isolation before boarding their plane home. Failure to do so will result in the airline refusing your entry to the flight.
    • All travellers from USA & UK will now be required to have proof of a pre-departure negative COVID test before boarding their flight home.
    Current circumstances require everyone entering the country to enter a government facility for two weeks of managed isolation (and eventually quarantine if you are found to have the virus). This is in the form of a hotel somewhere in the country.
    I try to show my experiences in this video of what you could also expect if you find yourself entering one of these facilities.

    Hi Finn. Really enjoyed your video 😀. I’ve just left The Holiday Inn. My room was 2065...just up from yours. I agree the experience was altogether a good one. I did have an issue with the food as it was more often than not cold. Think it was because it had so far to reach me. I didn’t complain though. The staff were great, the bed so comfy and I loved the bath too...seeing as I only have a shower at home. I’d definitely go back to The Holiday Inn to stay again. Maybe not for 2 weeks though!

    • @FinnDelMundoTravel
      @FinnDelMundoTravel  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Hey Gail! What a coincidence you were just down the hall from my room, those beds were a dream come true! I think the pillows were the most comfortable I have ever rested my head upon 😀! Shame about your food arriving cold, I didn’t encounter that once so maybe they’ve changed the way things are done. Did you get out and about in the garden courtyard? Ha! Definitely don’t go back for 2 weeks; but maybe a one night stay in the future if needed before an international flight 😅😉😉!! Glad you made it back safe.

      No worries Maddy! Only things I forgot to mention was laundry which you can do twice during your stay. I chose to wash my things in the sink since they provided washing powder for people like me. Also when leaving after 2 weeks you need to have one final temperature check from the nurse to clear you from the facility :) Good luck!! It goes fast if you have work to do or a good book to read :)

    • @FinnDelMundoTravel
      @FinnDelMundoTravel  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Cheers!! It’s totally random, you could end up in either Auckland, Rotorua, Wellington or Christchurch regardless of where your final destination might be in New Zealand. I just had a friend fly back from New York who ended up in Christchurch and 3 weeks ago I had another friend that came back from New York who ended up in Auckland isolation. It’s really strange how they allocate everyone out - hope this helps 😃

I think if you have some work to do, a book to read or something other than the hotel TV then your stay will fly by. In this video I forgot to mention the laundry, the hotel I was at could do your clothes twice for you OR if you didn’t mind then they also provided washing powder which I happily used and washed my clothes in my room. Everything in these places are so well thought out. Good luck 👍😀

      Thanks for watching Jeanette, I had an unopened bottle of tequila in my large bag and had no issues. (Opened it during my stay). Upon arriving to the hotel there was no extra baggage screening. The main problem would be if you wanted to order a bottle of vodka once you arrive, this they won’t allow. They said it was due to their hotel facility’s liquor licence. I hope your stay goes well :)

    The shower's not the only thing that's hot... Sounds like Mexico was absolutely roasting!
    😂😂😂
    As far as the purported exclusivity of your balcony goes, I believe that when a facility has limited balcony rooms available, they're being reserved for people who're symptomatic because those people have restricted access to the outdoor areas. So either your facility had lots of balconies or someone was running a high temperature...
    Me, after watching that steamy shower scene! 🥵

      Hey Ivo, yeah I watched TV1 news last week and to my horror they said managed iso was fully booked until June (not great for your current situation if you are trying to get back sooner).
      When I came back there was no requirement to book a placement, the airlines originally liaised with the government to find a placement for kiwis returning. I haven’t had any real experience with the MIQ site but a friend of mine who recently went through it all will. Her Instagram is:

    As usual a great video. I did have one doubt from the beginning though. What, if anything, were you paying? I did find the information by googling and since you had left before August 11, you paid nothing. What an amazing country. It sure helps to be an isolated island, and a very rich one.

    • @FinnDelMundoTravel
      @FinnDelMundoTravel  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Thankfully paid nothing to return since I left the country right before NZ closed it’s boarders for the first time in the country’s history. Those who leave or left after the lockdown on March 4th would need to pay $3100 for the managed isolation and additional adults in the same group are around $950.

    Thank you for sharing, I think it's a shame they didn't allow you to film the whole process! Hmmmm Wonder if they are worried about being ashamed of it later? LOL But really why would they mind? Were not all the staff masked? It's very difficult to identify anyone if they have googles and masks.. especially surgical outfits! But we can always watch Grey's Anatomy or some other medical show for that sort of Guessing right? So you had to show your ID... did they offer to show theirs? I am just so curious about this whole process... It's all so strange to me... When I returned from Mexico to the States there was NO lockdowns yet... It almost seemed like we were rushed through the gates with no temp checks or even baggage claim checks.. They basically said, " here's your luggage keep moving!" :D Perhaps in a few months or maybe this time next year everything will look different on this topic... I am still just amazed by it all!!!

    • @FinnDelMundoTravel
      @FinnDelMundoTravel  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I hope this time next year looks different! I’m going to struggle if this virus is still reeking havoc worldwide.
      With the restrictions to documenting everything, it was basically restricted to protect the privacy of guests, workers and anyone in the facility who had the right to go about their day without fear of ending up online or in the media. I went with it and can only explain to others my experiences since the video has since been deleted. It was guys in white suits and protective gear more or less, nothing special but it would have been nice to show 😅.

      I don't think they are wanting to hide anything because I've seen other videos of managed isolation stays where you can see the queue for the bus, and the police presence, checking in to the hotel, having a Covid-19 test done, the exercise area, armed forces staff supervising the exercise area etc.

    Hi Finn, Thanks for making the video. When you arrived to LAX, did you need to go through immigration and collect your luggage before checking in with AirNZ? Which airline did you fly from Mexico? Also, did the airline require a PCR test to enter USA? Taking the same route soon. Any help would be appreciated! Thanks.

    • @FinnDelMundoTravel
      @FinnDelMundoTravel  3 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Hey Kain! USA had a form which was a series of questions to see prior activity to entering USA and which asked about any possible COVID symptoms - the immigration didn’t check this form which I had completed for them or take it from me. They didn’t require a pre COVID test or anything at all - basically tells me USA has given up on anything to do with the virus.

      My layover was 11 hours so yeah I did have to collect my luggage for customers to screen and then check it back in for my next flight. LAX was a total ghost town and almost nothing was open so try and take some snacks to get you through the day. Good luck 😃

      I purchased that leg together through air NZ which was 2 flights under the same booking. The only requisite was my temperature was taken before boarding the plane in Mexico to LA.

      Hey Erin yes absolutely - upon arrival at the facility they will ask you before giving your room key if you have food allergies / special requests so they can cater to your needs. If that still doesn’t meet your needs then you can get food delivered at your own cost :)

      Not at all, everybody on my Air NZ flight had one entire row to themselves. They have a strict passenger distancing policy in place.
      On my flights through Mexico and to USA, there was no distancing on the planes because profit was more important than the health of the passengers.

      It’s crazy to think what has become of the world in less than a year. Britain is going back into a full lockdown for 4 weeks. Here in NZ it’s basically life as normal with the government’s strict 2 week isolation at the boarder enforcements. To see someone wearing a mask in NZ will almost generate a second look because they are so uncommonly worn. I hope you can travel, I am sure you will be fine. The flights to US and Mexico didn’t stop the entire time since I was there in March but with a possible change in presidency we will see what happens. Voted yet? 😁

At the moment because I live in the country away from the city I can do whatever I wish, however in town people are masking up big time! I hate it! Hey mate. How do you get your laundry done?

    • @FinnDelMundoTravel
      @FinnDelMundoTravel  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Good question!! There’s two options:
      1) You can do your own laundry in your sink or bath inside your hotel room. They provide laundry powder and this is the option I went with.
      OR
      2) You have a laundry bag which you place outside your hotel door that they will collect and clean for you. Usually they return your clean clothes a day or two later.
      Hope this helps :)
