I'm from London, England, I've supported Arsenal since I was 6 (I'm 37 now) & live about 20 minutes away from where The Emirates & Highbury stadiums are located. This video was a nice trip down memory lane I can't lie, got to experience some great moments supporting my club. The Champions League final.....that game still hurts to this day. We were no more than 15 minutes away from winning when Barcelona equalised.....we were so close.
The best football channel, period! He's the definition of quality over quantity. But Tifo, Raymar, Daily Dose of Football and Maqwell (and Copa90 when they uploaded) are very good too!
That was a great reaction idea. Whoever recommended this video has my respect. I would also recommend checking oh my goals "football will never produce another captain like puyol"
4:44 The European Cup was the Champions League, but what Arsenal won was the European Cup Winners' Cup, which was a tournament between the winners of the FA Cup, the Copa del Ray, Coppa Italia and all the cups across Europe. It was worth winning at the time, but once the Champions League expanded to include 2nd, 3rd and 4th place teams most of the best cup winning teams qualified for that instead and CWC lost its lustre. It was discontinued around 2002 or so I'm pretty sure.
Ryan Giggs is actually a legend, of Man Utd and the Premier League. One of the greatest players in English club football history. Man Utd's record appearance holder too.
Damn. Watching this again brought tears to my eyes. I cried when we lost number 50, cried when barca beat us. Cried when we left highbury and this video made me well up.
My club, it's still painful to see the champions league loss and i remember the uefa cup final against galatasaray i was a kid and i was so sad at that time. a lot of time to support a club is to suffer lol. Love my club.
I'm an Arsenal fan who has only ever gotten to see the invincibles and the champions league final through footage (I was born in 2004). Despite that, Henry is my favourite player of all-time and Wenger is my favourite manager. It's crazy to think Wenger started managing Arsenal years before I was even born, and left the club when I was already in High School. A true legend.
Nice stuff, great vid. The Uefa cup is the Europa league, and the cup winners cup doesn't exist any more, but it didn't really matter anyway, You were right about the European Cup being the champions league. And Henry didn't really pull a KD, the club had started going into decline and he stayed another year after the final because he was desperate to win it with Arsenal (everyone had been expecting him to leave that summer), their fans were always grateful to him for staying as long as he did. Maybe look at the Alex Ferguson years next, easily the most dominant storyline of the premier league so far
Tbf the European cup winners cup was closer to the being the Europa leage in terms of prestige, being the second tier European competition at the time. After a while they consolidated it into the Uefa cup which would later become the europa. Before then no one really cared about the Uefa Cup.
Man United vs Arsenal rivalry from late 90s to early 00s is the greatest in all team sports. The energy in those matches was INSANE. From the two managers, to the players (Keane and Vieira especially).
The UEFA Cup Winners' Cup was a European football club competition contested annually by the winners of domestic cup competitions. So there were 2 European competitions: the champions league & the cup winners' cup. However, the cup winners' cup was discontinued after the 98-99 season.
Great reaction man, and we can see that you have been learning, and you are still learning more :) I would recommand another story, a bit less famous, about a great striker, just before CR7 era : "The Story Of The Second Division Striker Who Became Portugal's Greatest Goalscorer"
Basically before the champions and europa league, there were: - europa cup 1 (roughly the champions league) - europa cup 2, or cup winners cup (a championship for the cup winners in europe: english FA cup, spanish Cope Der Rey, italian Coppa Italia etc.) - europa cup 3 (roughly the europa league)
Thierry actually joined Barcelona a year after they loss. It wasn't the same Barca anymore since the team was in turmoil. Also check the channel out more. I've been a subscriber of balon for a while now and all of their vids are 11/10. You will learn alot more about the history and a deeper background of eras in football.
Get your docs from Balon, their content is incredible. so much nostalgia as they've documented a lot of of stuff from the 90's and early 2000's some of my earliest football memories. just answer your question, the Cup Winners Cup was a knock out competition for teams that won the cup competitions, existed till 1999, when UEFA merged the cup winners cup with the UEFA Cup (now europa league) to create a champions league style format.
It was the European Cup(UEFA Cup) before the CL. The cup winner’s cup was every team that won the domestic cup in the top leagues of Europe. Would be pretty cool to bring back honestly, it was huge in it’s day
RIP Reyes. They talk about benfica is this video and you should definitely do a reaction to benfica curse. My team is one of the most cursed clubs ever. FYI, Europe cup = champions league Uefa cup= Europa League Cup Winners Cup kind of Conference League
The Cup Winners Cup was the 2nd biggest European tournament before the Champions League became what it is now, so by the 90's it wasn't as prestigious as it had been but still really valuable. Teams like Juventus, Barca, Spurs, Chelsea, Man United, AC Milan, etc all won it.
UEFA Cup was Europa League. I believe they created Europa League in 2011. UEFA Cup was probably better (competition wise) than European Cup in the 90s.
Wright joining west ham was a good move... West ham had the likes of Frank Lampard, Rio Ferdinand, Paulo Di canio (check him out btw) Trevor Sinclair, Micheal Carrick, Joe cole, Paul Kitson, and a few others. Most of them ended up being Premier league legends or very good players! Wright did okay for us 9 goals in 22 games but got injured and he was old so never came back. but yeah man check out Paulo Di Canio best goals and skills he is a demon , he got suspended from the league for pushing a ref and west ham only team that wanted to take him hahah and he was world class
To be fair to Henry, everyone already knew he was going to Barça, even the video says it then they JUST HAPPEN to play against Barça in the Final so by technicality KD is still the only KD 🤣😂🤣
not true, I remember most of us thought if we win the champions league final he would stay cuz even he said later on that he went to barca to win the champions league
Football had cycles , team go up and down . Even the greatest clubs like Real and Bayern have their bad years. They key is to remain average and then go into hibernation then rise/ wake up after a few years ( 4 plus years usually)
