- This is a beautiful hike but the one amazing thing that I saw was a coyote chasing a grizzly bear. The video of the coyote and grizzly is a little shaky because they were a long ways off so I was using full zoom on my camera while trying to keep them in the frame. Yellowstone National Park and the Yellowstone ecosystem is an amazing place in the backcountry this time of year.
Coyote probably distracting grizzly from her nearby den of pups.
Okay that makes sense. Otherwise I’d say coyote done lost its mind.
Looked like the grizz was hunting/smelling something, like coyote pups? Was she possibly trying to distract the bear away from her den?
I can't imagine what would possess a lowly coyote to go after a might grizzly like that. Maybe it had young in the area?
I once came across a coyote chasing a lone wolf across Slough Creek. And another occasion when two wolves chased off two young grizzlies from a kill in Hayden Valley, when not much later, a huge Grizzly swam across the Yellowstone River and chased off the wolves from the kill. Beautiful videography BTW.
no apologies are ever necessary Stan. Awesome hike again
I always enjoy your videos
Great video Stan. Love to see the Elk in velvet. Coyote is attempting to relocate that griz. Best wishes and stay safe.
That was so great to see for my first time. Funny how it looks like the coyote wants to play. Grizzly dhad plans to get somewhere. The most amazing scenery . Very nice hike glad to see all the wildlife loved it . Thank you Stan!
Thank you for sharing awesome footage
It looked like the coyote was teasing the grizzly, but it makes sense that it was probably distracting it from her young.
Awesome coyote/grizzly footage!! Thanks Stan! 👍😎🇨🇦📸
Looks like the bear and the coyote are playing "gotcha last"? Thanks so much for showing (for me the 1stx) how absolutely beautiful the Spring is there. So different from NE, it's almost heart-stopping. (The bear looks healthy, and black? No, I think I see the hump? But isn't that print too small for a grizzly?) Thanks so much for taking us on another wonderful walk today; I feel I can breathe easier even 2,200+-miles away..
Yes it is a small print. I think it is the back foot of a black bear after watching my video. But it is hard to identify a bear with the back feet. It could be a small grizzly. That is a very strange track because it was the only one.
Who won the stare down? 💜 Always love your videos!
Definitely had pups in the area. Trying to drive off the bear. Amazing footage Stan!
Great video as always, Stan!
Always a treasure to watch you Stan….
Thanks Stan nice walk.
Wow Stan! the setup of your walking into view with the Yellowstone ecosystem back drop are amazing! So beautiful! Thank you for taking the time to set up and record the surrounding beauty. Be well. =ll
The bear appears to be on the scent trail of something and unusual to see a coyote doing that so I wonder if there were coyote pups hidden away nearby?
Bear is saying, "Coyote, you are annoying me." (I see now where others mentioned cubs. Probably right, huh?)
Thanks, Stan!
Stan, great job as usual, you are a master at this work!! I love watching as it's an amazing perspective given of wildlife in their habitat with minimal human interaction. Also, great art work you have done Stan! If you are reading this take a moment to check out Stan's artwork of these wildlife.
I can’t imagine hiking grizzly habitat, alone, no apparent bear spray. My vote is that the coyote had nearby pups.
Fascinating behavior by that bear and coyote. It sure looks like play. They seem to be pals.
I can almost smell the Sage in this video! I wish Stan had Smellovison tech. But then again, he`d tell us to get out there and smell it yourself. Great video! Best bigfoot video I seen, Coyote chasing a Grizzly bear, But this grainy video is confirmed to be true. Or... was that a man in that bear suit? it was a distance away you know......?
Shaky and beautiful. Grizzly to close to a den site? Anyway, entire vid is great to watch.
Always enjoy your adventures,thank you.
This is absolutely beautiful. Where exactly is this in Yellowstone?
Just along the park boundary. Because of the chance that grizzlies could be delisted and hunted, I don’t normally give locations unless they are inside of the park. Thanks.
@@StanMills thank you. I honestly thought that’s kind of where you were given the mountain views.
Man what a Beautiful time of the year to be in Yellowstone. I wish i was there instead of this Arizona heat, 1 day lol
Awesome video!
Great footage! How often do you get to witness something like that?
Well this is the first time that I’ve seen a coyote chasing a grizzly.
Awesome footage.
It's made me laugh to see the coyote pestering the bear.😅 I also think that coyote was trying to get the grizz away from the den sight. There's no other reason for a coyote to behave that way.
Wow incredible footage man!
Coyote distracting bear from her pups
This one made me laugh Stan, no doubt the coyote had pups in the area. She knew just how to irritate the Grizzlies enough and not get into a real fight. I assume that was a 2 or 3 y/o Grizzly too not to long booted from mama. An older bigger grizzly might have said the heck with this and quickly turned the tables.
I have observed coyote grizzly behavior like that before. It quite resembles a game of tag. But is it? Maybe it is indeed an attempt to guide the grizzly away. Or perhaps the coyote just wanted a playmate.
That was either a very large coyote, or a small grizzly. Must’ve gotten too close to her den and cubs.
Those elk are not wasting any time growing new antlers.
Gone git out ere! yah dam bear keep running
bear turns to chase coyote Hey hey its just a game

So were the coyote and bear "playing", or trying to establish territory, or something else?
I don’t know. But a lot of people have some good thoughts in the comments.
🤛👍🙏😎🦅🇺🇸🦌🐻
That was wild to see the coyote and the bear playing. it certainly appeared that they were enjoying each other’s company. I mean, if the bear wanted to would kill the coyote easy. I’m perplex as to that dynamic. It’s a shame we couldn’t see it clearer. You need to get an iPhone 15. The camera has excellent zoom & steady video. It can do a lot of things.
LOL "playing" NOT!
wow. they are playing with each other!!
Sometimes animals just wanna have fun.
Were they fighting over territory?
Looks like a wolf
Looks like the coyote was bored to me and found a way to entertain his self dangerously! 😮
🗽 Coyote is distracting like our politicians always do... 🤨
.
I don't think play. The coyote was taking sneak shots at the bear. You're crazy for being there. Like most bear enthusiasts you won't do it long.
That's rude of you to say. Stan has been doing hikes in Yellowstone for years. He always takes the utmost precautions. Don't you have grass to look at or something?
