We're excited about this series of videos we have scheduled! Pat's Driveway Gym was an awesome first stop, with so many things and ideas I've never seen before! More HARDCORE HOME GYM videos coming! 😁
When Pat was in Delta Force in the 90s, he transformed and revolutionized how special operation units and eventually the entire military should actually train by introducing functional training. This guy is the real deal.
His pre-Delta Cold War career in the 80s is cool as hell too, could be made into a movie. Dude is also one of the best pistol shooters in US military history.
I think that it is whatever you can get motivated to keep up the habit. But, it makes more sense to do this because living a longer, more healthy, functional life than being the most jacked guy in the room.
This is awesome. Just his mentality around his lifting. Wish I could spend a week training with this guy. Ive been training for 30 years, very competitive, but now I’m getting to the point where it’s not as easy to train certain lifts the way I used to. For a lot of guys that have been training a certain way for so long it’s hard to imagine doing something different in your 50’s-60’s. It doesn’t feel right, but this guy, he makes it right. Longevity! I love that.
Pat is such a cool down to earth guy! I've been watching him for several years he always sets a great example for others and he's very generous with his knowledge.
9:00 I totally agree. Back when I was a personal trainer when crossfit blew up. I'd have clients leave the gym, come back 6 months later all busted up from crossfit. Backs, shoulders, hips just a mess. Olympic lifts take years of practice and constant couching to do. Want to build explosive power in legs? Depth jumps, plyometrics, sprints, agility ladder will do great at those things and less chance of injuries.
I do have an outdoor "annex" right out the back door. Concrete slab with box store bench/leg thing, box store barbell, cast-off plates, stall mats etc. Steel shot, Kettlebells, clubs, maces and staff just inside the door, ready to go. When I lived in Korea the guys in our neighborhood kept up a "gym" clearing in the forest with cart axles as bars and flywheels as plates. I keep a couple of implements in my truck and stop at a trail head or riverside to train before I get home. I get to bring my best self home this way. Plus the backyard is always ready too. Thanks guys.
Dull mind here. Man, every time that I think my little program is complete. . . I don't do bands, but I will be adding in some transverse stuff. Thanks, Pat.
Some cool ideas. I have a pretty mad setup in a half build music studio that never happened so i use it. Its in northern europe, no electricity or doors. Use band stands for my dips and squat rack, a bench which is a plank of wood on breeze blocks... no leg drive for a few years now. A plank for calf raises and a basketball full of sand for hitting. Do other activities so i can hit most things im missing but do like those hammers, have to keep an eye out for a tire and something to beat it with.
THIS was cool. So many great ideas being in my sixties myself. Great motivation to ditch this house and move on to my acreage. This is a great idea. I tell my older friends the exact same things, let your muscles squawk, but absolutely obey when your joints are telling you to dial it back. Can't wait for future episodes.
You asked, "why do you train outside?, and he said "I am an outdoor guy". My answer would be; several reasons. • I don't have space for only indoor training - I have a little indoor space, I can train inside if the weather sucks -, but mostly I use that space for storage of equipment. • once I got used to outdoor training (when I got full time job, kids, a house, going to a commercial gym took too much time, so I started training at home), the fresh air and lack if mirrors is addictive. No foul smell of sweat (of flatulence..), good natural light. Not having mirrors forces you to feel technique - try doing overhead pressing with your eyes closed... For me, outdoor training is a bit like cold water plunging. Once you learn/get used to it, you don't want to miss it. Train hard, stay safe!
This is that Real Man $#% right here ! I am very glad that I came across this channel today! He expresses the feeling that I've talked about wanting to achieve but did nothing to push myself to achieve it. This is inspiring Definitely makes me want to get off my rear and go get it !! ⚡️🔥💯
1:15 try to do the movement in diagonal (like the push up) i could be better to protect your soulder because when is horizontal your shoulder is almost in the maximal extension ! Same idea to strike in boxing, and you elbow will be closed to protect the body !
Outstanding and informative. I do all of my workouts outside year round in all conditions. At 61 it takes me a while to get warmed up as well. In the winter sometimes 30-45 minutes.🤙💪

Great idea for a series!
The hair transplant didn't take... do yo think you didn't follow the advice and you started working out too soon?

Where is there more info on this?
@Scanlan5 his recent video called "functional fitness" on his channel idk the timestamp the whole video has good info too
His interview with Jocko is well worth a listen, youll get a lot of his backstory there@@Themandogh
Truly believe, for the average person, Pat's format is better than strict powerlifting or bodybuilding. Stay strong, flexible and dynamic.
Keep it habitual🤙🏻
Better for what exactly?
In case a scientist comes who knows more than you
Functional strength and overall health and fitness.

What a beautiful human being this guy is, Pat we love you and hope you never change
Calling it “hardcore” is about the best compliment you could give Pat
Pat is such a cool down to earth guy! I've been watching him for several years he always sets a great example for others and he's very generous with his knowledge.
Pat Mac and juji for president and vice president!!
Pat could do the bulk of his job from his driveway. World Peace would happen 😅
Def😂😂
Pat Mac is no joke. Every man should strive to be like him.
unless he is Brian Shaw. 😂
He even styled his beard into a knife. Truly a human weapon.
lol
that mothafugger does look stiff...and deadly
Lmao
This guy is the Dr. Seuss of fitness "motion is lotion" "mobility is survivability" "
Laziness is craziness - you're welcome LOL

Pat Mac is a genuine dude and a hero. Juji I’ve been a fan for years and I am stoked for this series! You rock brother!
cool idea for a series
It would be very popular, I'm sure!
Pat - you are an inspiration! Keep it up brother. I am 64 years young and you motivate me to no end!! Thanks!!
I like how there are bird feeders right outside the gym. Those birds get to watch Pat workout while they eat. 😆

This series should be called Jimz like the cribs series on MTV.
This is going to be such an awesome series! Also, Pat makes me feel like a wimp. I need to workout outside 😅
Emojis are gay
For real we all do. We spend way too much time indoors!

I have a similar gym outside on my patio, but I gotta admit he has some sick shit and I am 100% jelly. I've never seen those cinder weights.
Great video and outside gym. The idea of being outside is primal and brings out the beast in us

Love the outside gym... surprised he didn't have any steel maces/gadas in his gear. Going to have to look into those blocks though, very nice!
I thought he did in one of his other videos.

I know Mac, and for anyone wondering, he's exactly like as hes shown here. Super good dude and is always excited to share and learn knowledge.

What a cool out door gym. I am going to start a push, pull, legs, dynamic movement program soon. I have one more week of a power building program.

Juju has to work on that boxing form👍👍💪🏻👍
I workout outside and use things like actual cinderblocks, bands, and similar things but its like getting put on game to the better version

完璧なジムだ。何もかも揃っている。設備だけでなく精神面も。人間も動物だ。屋外で獰猛に、自らを鼓舞し鍛え上げる事が必要なのだ
Variability is key to health and we live in 3D so we need to train in 3D! Direction, distance and Depth=3D
This is my favorite video on your channel. I needed some motivation today and this did the trick. Thanks.
