About Sigma & Samyang Lenses! These are GREAT options but due to the interest of time, I wasn't able to include them all in this round! However check out my separate reviews on them below! I've also updated the slides to include the Sigma Lenses for those who are interested! Thanks for watching! 😁

That 90 macro does well as a stand-in for 85. You can set it for full range focusing with a switch. It stops being a macro and just becomes a really nice 90mm prime.

Just got my A7RIV a few days ago, and lucked out and picked up a 16-35mm f/2.8 GM used for a hefty discount.
In a word, incredible. This thing is going to spoil me so hard. My go-to hiking camera is my A6600, and I interchange between either the 18-135mm or some combination of the Sony Trio (10-18mm f/4, 16-55 f/2.8, and the 70-350mm f/4.5-6.3). Being able to go from 16mm on up to 35, and then with a single button press swap it into 24-53mm and still maintain 26mp is just glorious. Biggest downside? Thing is freaking huge. Roughly on the same scale as my 70-350mm APS-C lens. Total weight of the camera plus the lens combined is over 3lbs. But it's so good. For longer trips where weight matters the APS-C will still be my workhorse, but shorter trips? A7RIV is nuts.
Oh also picked up the 85mm f/1.8. It's a good lens, though I don't do much portrait work and find it hard to use for street and landscapes. Still, just and excuse to get creative.

    *Tamron has entered the chat*
Currently using the 28-75mm F/2.8 and it's great! Doesn't have OSS, but you can offset that with a gimbal and the in-body stabilization. Really can't beat it for the price point! No need to break the bank with Sony lenses if you're just starting off... you can always upgrade in the future.
Also, Tamron now has the 17-28mm F/2.8 and the 70-180mm F/2.8 as well to finish of the trinity.

It's kinda difficult to view this video as objective or unbiased when the list basically ignores the existence of Sigma as an option. Not only for the price, but for the often on-par if not superior performance of the brand at an often lower price. It just seems super odd and motivated to not have included a single offering from Sigma.

My interpretation of sony full frames is - quality in a compact body and reasonable prices.
    My choices are:
    Ultrawide zoom_tamron 17-28 2.8 (light, fast, unexpensive)
Normal zoom/travel lens_sony 24105G (most compact 24105, even lighter and less expensive than 2470 GM)
Tele zoom_sigma 100-400 (most compact 100-400 on the market, light and with great optics)
    Speaking about prime lenses:
    35 - zeiss 2.8 (incredible pancake lens)
50 - sony 1.8 (excellent optics, cheapest FE lens.... even if terrible autofocus)
85 - sony 1.8 (no words to add)

I have a sony a7III and I started with the 85mm f1.8 and it's amazing, every shot is great, then I got the 16-35 Gmaster f2.8 and it's definitely a great lens but it is heavy and big and when traveling it's not so great to carry around, so... I just bought the 35mm f1.8 and couldn't be happier, it's sharp and perfect for travel, I only take the 35mm and the 85mm f1.8 with me now. I'm selling the 16-35mm because, in time, I found out I don't really use it that much for the kind of photos I take, so I'll be selling it soon. Greetings from Chile. Love your channel!

One way to solve the 24mm vs 35mm dilemma is to get a full frame 24mm and add an APS-C body. Mount it on the APS-C body, and you have a 36mm angle of view. In similar fashion, mount an 85mm lens on an APS-C body, and the 127.5mm angle of view gets you close to 135mm territory.

Jason love you, but you knew this was coming buddy. You totally ignore the amazing new Sigma lenses in E-mount that have been tested and outperform Sony GM lenses at less cost. The Sigma Art 24-70mm f2.8 DG DN has overall bested the nearly five year old 24-70mm f2.8 GM in all tests for less money. I could afford to buy this GM but choose the better Sigma 24-70mm f2.8 DG DN. The Sigma Art 85mm f1.4 DG DN bests the old 85mm f1.4 GM in all head-to head tests and is the best 85mm on the market for Sony. I sold my 85mm GM and it fully paid for the better Sigma. You favor the Batis lenses like the 135mm f2.8 over the 135mm f1.8 GM. Come on Jason, that 135mm f1.8 GM blows away the Batis and is the sharpest lens ever tested by Lens Rentals. Yes I know you have a Batis lens addiction. The Sony 100-400mm is NOT the sharpest Sony lens. And you ignore the Sigma 100-400mm. Also the new Sigma Art 105mm f2,8 Macro is sharper than the Sony 90mm f2.8 Macro at less costs also. No reviewer will get it always right, all the time. Usually I am right there with you on most things, but you are missing a lot here. Check out the tests of 114 Fullframe E-mount lens, tested for sharpness by SAB. Yes there are more things to picking a lens than just sharpness, like color, contrast, bokeh, focus, weight, size, price, build quality. But this list is a good comparison. BTW I am an award-winning pro of over 44 years in the business who has owned and used the best cameras and dozens of lenses from Leica, Nikon, Canon and Sony. I have owned the Sony A7RII, A7RIII, A7III and now own the A9, A7RIV and A7SIII. I own 13 E-mount lenses from Sony, Sigma, and Tamron. I choose the best lenses that I need, and sometimes that is not a Sony lens. I own five GM lenses now, but not all GM lenses are created equal. Cheers, still love you man. SAB article with test charts for over 114 E-mount lenses, updated to include recent lens releases. ; sonyalpha.blog/2019/11/10/which-lenses-to-maximise-the-potential-of-the-sony-a7riv/

I was leaning towards Canon for my first mirrorless full frame purchase primarily due to the many disappointments I heard from people about the grip. But I also know several pro photographers with larger hands than mine who use it quite comfortably. This and the fact that both Tamron and Sigma have very affordable lenses in the focal lengths where I wont fret over owning a native, convinces me to buy a Sony instead. When my options under the 3k budget is either the Canon RP with 24-70 f2.8 native or the Sony alpha 7 iii with tamron 28-75 f2.8 or Sigma 24-70 f2.8 or Zeiss Batis 85 f1.8 or … …we get the obvious hint!

@@brentkimball8866 it is the most recent lens of the Batis line, but there has been so many other options since, including the favoured Sony 35mm 1.8. I just got the Tamron 70-180 yesterday instead of a macro lens. At 70mm you can get insanely close to a subject. Like, the lens is almost touching it. That’s another consideration if you want close focus

Also landscape photographers love a 70-200 for detail shots. They often only bring the 16-35 and the 70-200 on a hike. Some have replaced the 70-200 with the 100-400.

I would note that the Sony FE 35mm 1.8 (SEL35F18F) does not have OSS, so if using body that does not have IBS you can opt for the cheaper Sony E 35mm 1.8 (SEL35F18) that does have OSS. It is a fine lens, too.
The Sony 90mm G macro is pricy but I use it more than any of my other lenses by far (collectible product photography where detail and condition are important) and can comfortably say that it is worth every penny. The autofocus, the OSS, the sharpness. It's SO good.

The Sony 24-70 GM is a BEAST! It's typically the only lens I bring when I travel. The Sony 50 1.8 (version2 SEL50F18F/2) is pretty good too for a budget prime lens, I have gotten very good shots. The version 2 fixed some autofocus issues as well as less noise during focus. Also, the Sony 16-35 F4 is very very sharp at 16mm wide-open, I like it a lot!

Before I knew much about what kind of lenses I needed I bought the 24mm GM, glad I got the "best lens" on the first try! I also got the 24-240, and it is super versatile but really just doesn't seem to be very good at any one thing, its just decent at a lot of different things, so for one lens it can get a lot done just lower quality and less sharp at least in what I have gotten from it.
