  • Hey yall hey! 👋🏾 I know I said I would be gone for a while but I had some content sitting in my phone from a while ago, and decided to finish editing it.
In this video, I will be demonstrating the day in a life of a medical assistant working in the OB/GYN field. I only show myself prepping and pulling a patient for 1 appointment but in a typical day I actually see 15-20ish patients for a variety of different things including vaccines and lab orders that need to be put in. Also, it doesn’t always look like that in a typical day. Some days it’s really hectic where it is hard for me to complete all of the task required by the end of the day such as prepping for the next day (sometimes I end up staying past my 5pm shift to catch up) and other days it’s really smooth. It just depends on the schedule for that day. I wish I could go further in depth in the video but I can only show so much… This is an all caption video, though I do talk a little at the end. I hope this video helps to give a better understanding of what a typical day looks like for a medical assistant in OB/GYN, if you have any further questions as far as how to become a medical assistant, or if you like more details in general, just let me know in the comments.
I hope you enjoy, and I will be updating you all when I am ready to officially return. Thank you for your understanding. ❤️🫶🏾

Hey, love the vlog. When u first became a medical assistant where did you gain your first experience from? And what facility did you first work in?

Hey! I actually started as a front desk receptionist at a primary care facility and transitioned to clinical. They trained me on the job. I went through a community college to get my MA cert which only took about 5 months. Took the exam and passed.

New subscriber here. I’m in medical assisting school now. Any tips?

Hey, thank you for subscribing! I took an accelerated MA night class in 2022 after my full time job most days of the week and all that I recall getting me through was remembering my end goal. Sometimes you just have to keep that picture in mind to keep you motivated. Keep watching videos like this and getting better insight into what it is that you’ll actually be doing. I find that consistently exposing myself to material related to the future I want for myself really helps me stay motivated. Make sure this is something you really want to do and enjoy thoroughly because you’ll need something to keep you going when things get challenging. Figure out why completing this program is important to you & fall back on that anytime you feel like like quitting. Study, study, study and always be open to learn more! You never stop learning in this field so don’t think it stops after school. I hope this helps and good luck!

Is medical assistant hard is there math involved, was there math on the certification exam and can you live off the pay is it enough???

Hey those are great questions and I may do a follow up video just to talk about all of it but in my experience I would say it’s not hard, it’s just a lot to learn and memorize. And if you’re working in a specialty field (cardiology, obgyn, podiatry, pediatrics, etc.) it’s even more to learn and memorize. I would suggest anyone just starting as a Medical Assistant to begin in primary care so that you learn the basics. That’s what I did at least. There is some math involved but it is very simple. I am a certified pharmacy technician as well and I would say there is more math involved in that profession than in the medical assistant field. I have been able to live off of the pay I make even when I was just entry level. If I make a follow up video I will put more details there. I make a lot more now obviously and it’s enough for me and my lifestyle, especially since I do not have any children or anything. The exam was not hard at all in my opinion but I also didn’t score as high as I thought I would have so I must have missed something lol. I passed the first time though so that means something. The pharmacy tech exam was much harder. But I also think my professor (who was a retired nurse) provided a lot of information and thoroughness throughout the course so we all were very well prepared. Thank you so much for the questions, I hope this was helpful!

I am a new medical assistant previously was a social worker but wanted to change fields so that I could return to nursing school. Regarding the national exam I took mine through the NHA and it wasn’t bad at all. I actually didn’t do much studying for it because a lot of the questions I found to be common sense but they do have exam prep materials on their website if you are taking the exam through them. Regarding pay if you’re a new medical assistant the pay won’t be that well unless you have some kind of previous experience but once you start gaining experience you can move around. I currently work in an urgent care but I am interviewing for a OBGYN position. Hope some of this helps.

I like the job and specialty itself, not too fond of the company I was with.
