I’m starting MA program in exactly one month from today and making it a birthday gift to myself!!..this is a big step out of my comfort zone I’m so freaking nervous 🙈
It is best to go to a school that offer Phlebotomy certificate included as well right? I’m trying to make sure I chose the right school 🤔..what did you look for when choosing the school you went to?
mercy I ended up changing my mind due to I found out some things they didn’t tell me in the beginning..but good luck on your journey keep me posted how things work out for you!
I understand the appt flip floping situation, one late patient can throw the whole schedule off but you do what you have to do to get them in and out! Great job Sophia! 😊
Sadie Diaz that’s what I did too. I graduated with my ADN in 2018 and enrolled in my bsn 2 weeks later. I graduated from my bsn this past August. I really like that adn focuses on skills but now in days finding a job with a ADN new grad is hard. I would suggest to find a PCA job for a hospital and build connections
I loved seeing this, I work as an MA in a GYN Clinic as well, just started in July! Gave me first Depo a week ago but it didn’t come prepped! So similar to how we work, as far as nurse notes and charting - so it was really great to see.
SOPHIA CARLSON I like it! It’s a private office for only one doctor. It can get hectic at times from ordering pap and labs to screening the Pt, we prep paper charts before appts AND get them ready for the next day, we offer genetic BRCA testing, ova1 so those could come at random, even spontaneous miscarriages :( I haven’t done incision checks but definitely have done Hpv vaccines and assisted on Endometrial Biopsies and Colposcopies. I hope you can continue to show us your days!
Sabrina Hance Our schedules do sound similar!! There’s 6 providers in our office so I bounce between them all which has its pros and cons! I definitely will continue to post MA content !!:)
I enjoyed watching this I just finished classes for becoming a MA last week I start my externship tomorrow at an urgent care and I’m so nervous so I’m here watching all these vids
It’s not that bad but I honestly hate it there, they are so unorganized, unsanitary, and LAZY. I’ll be completely done on the 29th can’t wait. But I have learned a lot as well.
Tatsiana Tati I actually liked working there because you never knew what was coming through the door , but unfortunately this particular urgent care I would never recommend just for sanitary reason but I did learn a lot. And the staff complained a lot about being overworked and underpaid.
@princess Gaming , so I did my externship at Internal Medicine . I enjoyed it very much , the staff was very welcoming and willing to teach me because that’s the reason I was going it right haha . I initially thought of working at family practice , but after the externship experience I chose to apply for Internal Medicine . I like my job , I interact with very kind patients . It is busy environment , patients arriving one after the other , MD orders vaccines , EKG , then you have the administrative part , phone calles, sorting documents for MD to review or sign , faxes , etc .
What is your scope of practice? Can you give the injections or do you just set up for them? I have 3 classes left for my Bachelors in nursing and I’ve never worked with an MA so I was curious! Love your videos!
Yup we can give injections, draw blood, do vitals & things like that! We can’t give any medical advice or start IVs. We can order meds, give advice etc. under doctors permission & they have to sign off on most things!
I'm a MA at an urgnet care group. I float between different offices and each office has a different start and close time. But I start my new MA job on Feb 10th at a local hospital! I'm not sure if I will be strictly Ob/Gyn or be part of the float pool for all doctor's offices. I interviewed for both spots

I’ve been out of school for a year and a half. I have my certification, but I’m afraid it’s too late to get a job. Especially since I have no experience, and I’m forgetting some things learned. Does anyone have this experience? If so, should I just apply for other things? Or should I continue to apply for MA jobs? Any advice will be appreciated. 🙂
Oh it is nooooot late whatsoever! I was out of school for 2 years and just got hired as MA 3 days ago! Full time schedule and at such a good pay rate! Just keep trying never give up what you really want! If you really want to work in the medical field and that is ur passion show it in your interviews!😊😊👏
@*kupo I don't think it was disrespectful if someone is truly passionate about something that they went to school for and once they got out they forgot they were taught then what did you really learn you know? I graduated and didn't work in the medical field for 2 years straight but during those years I was still looking up MA videos reading the books that I received from school so I wont forget. And finally last week I was blessed with an MA job after so long. So my point is dont give up and keep trying if something is really your passion you will keep looking and looking.
Start on the 30th and counting down the days like crazy lol being an MA can be busy but for the most part it’s good to see you won’t experience a great chance of burn out like nursing.. 💕
This is the kind of stuff I went to medical assisting school hoping I would do!!!! I would love to be doing procedures so often. The only job I could get out of school is almost all phone calls and paperwork
I’m 32 with a bachelors degree in International Relations. That got me nowhere. Considering MA school this year :) How would it be getting into this field in your 30s as a new career?
SOPHIA DANIELLE how difficult was it completing the externship and then getting hired on? What are your options if the site doesn’t hire you on because a lot of positions require the experience.
Jaclyn Bazsika it wasn’t hard at all for me, the place I had my clinicals was actually looking to hire a MA so I was lucky!! Thankfully MAs are needed everywhere and the job outlook is growing a ton! You shouldn’t have a problem finding a job :)
I finished MA school when I was 30, and I got hired immediately but starting pay was 12$... since I don’t have experience. I live in LA, and there’s no chance to survive for this salary. So I’m in RN school now.
I’m starting medical assistant school in November and I’m so excited about can’t wait to start 😬😊... do you have your diploma or associates in medical assistaning?
I'm curious for those in MA school. Do you have to cover your tattoos? Are you allowed to have colorful hair? The MA professor I have say if they see a tattoo you will be kicked out of program. They don't care if you have them but they have to be covered at all times. Just curious if it's just my school or if it's pretty much all schools.
Thanks for posting! This is the best DITL I've come across so far! I love watching these bc I'm planning on taking MA classes next fall ❤️ do you enjoy your job?? I'm interested in working in an OB/GYN clinic as well!
I would say do the associates if you plan to follow up with nursing because you can take your pre-reqs at the same time. If you only want to do MA I suggest just the diploma because there is no pay difference honestly
Contemplating whether or not to go back to school for MA since my first degree didn’t get me nowhere. I would like to work in a ob/gyn office if I do pursue MA. Should have stuck to that as my first career choice.
Great video! I'm starting my A.A.S in Medical Assisting in January. I have lots of experience in other fields (government, education, prior service military) and my bachelors degree, but starting this program is making me nervous and anxious mostly in a good way. I'm not sure how I feel about drawing blood and giving injections, though. Where can MAs work where that isn't necessarily something that is done too often? I don't know maybe I'll feel more confident after school but it just seems like it's too easy to mess up!
I'm the opposite. Looking for a place where I can give shots and draw blood. I think wherever you go don't do obgyn or family medicine because you would give vaccines and shots on a daily basis
What is it that you like/love about working in a OBGYN clinic? Because it seems like most MA’s want to work in this type of clinic and I’m starting MA school soon and I always tell other people and myself that working in a OBGYN clinic is the LAST place I would want to work😂😂 but it seems like all MA’s who do work in that department absolutely love it and I’m just like hooooow 🤦🏾♀️🤷🏽♀️ lol
Maya Sheffield personally for me, I like that a majority of our patients are pregnant so they’re coming in multiple times for appointments and I get to know them on a more personal level and it makes me feel like I’m contributing to their pregnancy in a way! But when it comes to rooming, and administrative stuff I feel like it’s very similar to other specialties!
Im a CCMA and I cant find a hob with no experience !! But i cant wait to start working!!! I wanna do Internal Med but ill work where ever i can get hired at p
Do you have your actual certification? Did your program help set you up with an extern site? Maybe try your local urgent care offices and work there for at least 6 months. Good luck!
I need my butt cut I have my associates in ma but never got certified. Now I believe that I have to take a refresher course and pay for it and for the certification
I want to do medical assistant ... am so shy and it’s pushing me back. Also I have family members who are medical assistants and they are always complaining about the doctors
I start Concorde university in two weeks to become a medical assistant I’m super excited! It’s all hands on training, and after my externship they even go out of their way to help the graduates get employed!
It’s good! The instructor is AMAZING I have one more term left but I’m about to have a baby so I’m going on maternity! Once I finish my last term I start extern!
Francesca Martinez okay so the program I’m in is a total of 8 months, you have the 6 months on campus of school, and then two months of unpaid externship and then you graduate!!! I chose Concorde because I didn’t want to go to a community college and do math, English, science etc. Concorde is literally all medical assisting you basically dive right in
Tia Difazio omg that’s amazing ! okay i’m sorry for all the questions but i have one more , how much was it for the MA program because i feel like that’s the biggest concern of students like me !
I took a course at my local vocational school (Great Oaks). You can also look into a program at your local community college. The course is usually 6-9 months. I did mine in 14 weeks which was very, very condensed. I didn't feel prepared when I went to my extern site.
Pennfoster.edu currently has an associate’s degree program for this. It’s 2 years, 4 semesters long and it’s $1,500 per semester. They allow you to pay $89 a month. It’s accredited and grants you the ability to sit for the CMA exam.
I'm 23 and I'm just now planning to attend the summer program to be a Medical Assistant. It's never to late to acquire an education and better yourself. Forget those nay sayers, they can mind their own business and continue to do the same thing that they're doing. While you, are trying something different and progressing yourself and in life. It's never too late to try something new. Time is something that we'll never get back. But regretting what we didn't do in that time is even worse. Go for it! 30 and all!
sooo :( i just got a nose piercing, and I’m looking into being a medical assistant! I’m wondering is my piercing allowed? Does it depend on the clinic? I didn’t think of all of this before getting the piercing 😭 it’s a small stud right now
Hello! I stumbled across your video because i am going to school to be a medical assistant myself. I haven’t decided what office i want to work in yet, but do u like OBGYN? Is it pretty easy work? ☺️
I'm taking the MA program at my community college trying to get certificate first and in the process maybe complete Associates right now I feel like its just book and class work nothing hands on and we don't wear a uniform yet but I'm hoping this is the best route for me
Depends on where ya working at, my first job fresh outta school in 2012, in Virginia at an ENT office stared me out at 15.00HR.....moved to Florida worked at an Urgent care and made 12.00.
@@tonitoomer7168 $15 dollars isn't bad. Especially for entry level position, plus when you gain experience when you decide to get another job your salary increase.
I completely just changed my career choice to IT instead. I need to be at 6 figures and healthcare wont do it unless you an actual doctor. I need to be making AT LEAST $50 per hour.
You use gloves when you’re cleaning everything but you don’t use gloves when you are preparing anything, even dressings and needles. What is that? Thanks for the insider view of a day in the life of an MA. It’s what I’m working towards.
Hi, I am Sumon Hasan. I have completed diploma in medical assistant training course from the "state medical faculty of Bangladesh". The course was 3 years academic and 1 year hospital internship. I fully completed my course 2018.Now l am interested in higher study in medical assistant in USA or Canadian institute. How it can be possible, please let me know the details information....? My school didn’t offer the phleb certificate but I did learn how to draw blood. I just chose the school closest to my house with a good reputation!
Good luck. I’m doing the same for my birthday next year.
mercy I ended up changing my mind due to I found out some things they didn’t tell me in the beginning..but good luck on your journey keep me posted how things work out for you!

I’m a MA and I get down because I do everything a nurse does and more but I don’t feel important/ accomplished.
Sidney Willis I totally understand that feeling!! I just remind myself the MAs are busy as important to the clinic!
Same here, I’m MA, but do nurse job, and salary still MA 🧐
I guess I'm too positive. I even felt accomplished when I was a CNA😂
hi! What is your hourly pay if u don’t mind me asking😊?
Just recently found your channel, currently in MA school and I love watching these kinds of videos! Makes me excited to hurry up and finish school!
I feel that! It felt great to graduate and start working!!🙌🏻
How long is MA school usually?
Ivana Botero my program was 9 months!
Ivana Botero my program is also 9months, I think some depend on your school though.

Alverene Brown I’ve heard urgent care is not good place to work as MA, unless it’s good money.

Do you have to do phlebotomy where you work or is it just vaccine?
Just vaccines!
Loved your vid ! Please make more :)!
Panda C thank you! I definitely will😊
Hey! I’m wondering what kind of schooling and such you need to be a MA? I’m sure it differs but thought I’d ask if you have any info. Thanks!
I took a course at my local vocational school (Great Oaks). You can also look into a program at your local community college. The course is usually 6-9 months. I did mine in 14 weeks which was very, very condensed. I didn't feel prepared when I went to my extern site.
do you use your stethoscope at all? most clinics use automatic BP machines
Oddity I used it all the time! We have the manual BP cuffs where I work!
SOPHIA CARLSON oh nice! Last question, do you only use it for BP?
Oddity yes
SOPHIA CARLSON I start my externship in about two weeks, sorry for the many questions! question! 😅 how would you explain blood pressure to a patient?
Oddity The top number refers to the amount of pressure in your arteries during the contraction of your heart muscle.
Did you have to pay for training to become an MA? Also did you train at a community college or the clinic itself?
Pennfoster.edu currently has an associate’s degree program for this. It’s 2 years, 4 semesters long and it’s $1,500 per semester. They allow you to pay $89 a month. It’s accredited and grants you the ability to sit for the CMA exam.
how was the certification exam?? im about to take mine!!! super nervous!!!
You got this!!
are you a college student? just curious lol. I was wondering if it’s a good career to be in.
This is what I want to do so bad 😭 but at 30 I been told I’m too old to go to school and be a medical assistant 🥺
Go for it! 30 and all!
Jasmine Smith beautiful words thank you ! Best wishes to you 🙏🏽❤️
@@ezy1411 Thank you! ❤
I’m 31 and a solo mom with no help, and I’m fixing to go back. Fuck the haters hun. ☺️
@@kitsunefaye1661 wow congratulations best of luck to you!
You’re so pretty! Oh and your eyesssss 😍😍😍
Lol I'm not a morning person either.
It’s something I’m working on!😂
I am starting my new job as a medical assistant 1. Do you think this could be a life long career ?
sooo :( i just got a nose piercing, and I’m looking into being a medical assistant! I’m wondering is my piercing allowed? Does it depend on the clinic? I didn’t think of all of this before getting the piercing 😭 it’s a small stud right now
For school and clinicals you may have to take it out, but I work with a lady who has her nose pierced and it’s not a big deal!!
Link to your jacket? Or name of that exact one
I got that jacket at a north face outlet a long time ago and can’t find it anywhere! The north face website has lots of similar ones though!
Thank you! I’ve looked everywhere. Yours is better than all the ones I’ve found tho. Maybe they’ll bring it back
Is any one a dermatologist office m.a? And also has by one tried the online medical assistant program
Hello! I stumbled across your video because i am going to school to be a medical assistant myself. I haven’t decided what office i want to work in yet, but do u like OBGYN? Is it pretty easy work? ☺️
Girrrlll I so understand the whole late patient thing, a late patient throws off the whole schedule, especially when you have 60+ patients.
Wow, 60 patients!!? The most I've seen in a day for one provider is 45 and that was crazy! What speciality do you work in?
SOPHIA DANIELLE I do OB/gyn!!! we have 2 doctors and 1 PA. The most we’ve had is 75 patients and with me only 3 MA’s....ITS CRAZZY
I’m in school for nursing assistant in va love watching your videos !
Nice I want that job 👍 thanks you for the video ☺️
Hi, do you think I can become an MA right out of highschool? I will be 17 btw and love the video❤️
Do you guys do manual bp?
Yup! On every patient :)
Love this!
Are the one injecting the patient or the doctor takes care of it?
I do it!
Where have you been? I’ve missed you 😂😭!
Life has been crazy! Expect a much needed update coming soon... miss you guys😩❤️
SOPHIA CARLSON I honestly think you’d make a great nurse. Are you thinking about going further ?
Rayvette Lawson thank you! What a sweet compliment😊 It’s definitely a thought! We’ll see what happens!
SOPHIA CARLSON did u get hired at your extern site
Rayvette Lawson I did! Almost everyone I graduated with did! great job security👍🏻
My mom is a medical assistant and I always wanted to know what she does everyday ❤️❤️
How cool! :)
This was awesome!
Thank you!
whats the difference between a medical assistant and a nurse?
I’m going to filing a whole separate video on this topic!
The work and pay
Are you the one giving the injections?
Zack Scherzer yes, we can draw blood and give injections but we can’t start IVs
SOPHIA DANIELLE How come? Im currently in MA program (associates degree) and we have this class clinical procedures & we’re learning IV’s
I'm taking the MA program at my community college trying to get certificate first and in the process maybe complete Associates right now I feel like its just book and class work nothing hands on and we don't wear a uniform yet but I'm hoping this is the best route for me
Yeah it starts off pretty slow with book work but times flies when you start to do the hands on portion!
May I ask what your pay is?
She's not going to answer that but it depends on where an MA works, state location, experience, certificates, it can vary.
Not much! Nurses are the ones who get PAID $40+ an hour
Toni Toomer Yea if they live in New York or LA... not elsewhere smh 🤦🏻♂️
How much MA get paid?????????????????
Depends on where ya working at, my first job fresh outta school in 2012, in Virginia at an ENT office stared me out at 15.00HR.....moved to Florida worked at an Urgent care and made 12.00.
All that work for $15 an hour? Wow!!
@@tonitoomer7168 whoop de doo for you. Also there are plenty of NP and PA that can make 6 figures
You use gloves when you’re cleaning everything but you don’t use gloves when you are preparing anything, even dressings and needles. What is that? Thanks for the insider view of a day in the life of an MA. It’s what I’m working towards.

I don’t believe so! MAs are primarily in the clinics! (Family practice, Peds, OB, and other specialities)
In Georgia they can 🍑 🤱
