    I've been a subscriber of yours for a while, very much enjoy your content... I appreciate the way you handled that. His smirk woulda pissed me off! If I was your teammate I probably woulda had some words for the guy.
    Unrelated, a new jerk at our local bar was rude to the bartender, then rude to my buddy, then rude to me as we played 8 ball ... so I made it a point to be as rude as I could to him. When I walked away he told my buddy I was a dickhead, then my buddy told me. I have a 3 strike policy and had enough of his attitude after he disrespected my friends. After our next game he came to shake my hand and told me he didn't catch my name. So I told him "my name is Gabe but they call me dickhead. Actually I heard you called me dickhead". As i said that to him I never released his hand in the handshake. He denied saying it so, still holding the handshake, I calmly said "are you calling my friend a liar?" Guy never came back to our bar.

      Hahahaha! Checkmate! Love it. Not everyone can do what you did there. It's unfortunate that it has to go to that point but trust me, as someone who's taken a punch to land three, sometimes it needs to go down that way. You're a great teammate! ✌️👌

    It makes me sad to hear that you carried this with you so long. My perspective, it's amateur pool league, if someone cheats me once, twice even three times... whatever. They have to live with themselves. I'm glad you we're able to process the situation and your feelings.

    I had a similar instance during league that got my heart racing, but I was called the cheater. My opponent played a safety forcing me to one rail kick at my ball. The 8 ball was very close to it, so the opposing team called a spotter over to watch the hit. The spotter called it a good hit, but my opponent was adamant that it was not. He said I should have done the right thing and called a foul on myself. I had to play him three more racks to win the match with him calling me names and using foul language. I had been working with Mark Wilson during that time, so I asked him how I should have handled it. Mark said I should have given him the ball-in-hand foul because I need to be able to win even when things aren't going my way. So the way I look at it now is that I got angry at the way I was being treated by my opponent, that anger is an emotion, emotions are controllable, and they have no business being present during competition.

      I love your take. Its part of the reason why I made this video today. I'm not some spring chicken. I've got lots of experience. But I didn't lie when I said I went back to the team table and I was vibrating. The experience got to me that day. You're right. Checking emotion at the door is what makes greatness at the table. 👍👌

    Situation A = gotta just eat it.
    Situation B= when calling a foul i always call foul, then say why it was a foul to be clear... no rail after contact, hit my ball 1st, ect...

      So that's exactly what I did...and when your opponent says no it's not a foul you're right back into my prediciment. 😔

    1st thing, I can't believe your League has Cue Ball Only fouls.
    2nd thing, I probably would have at least shown my displeasure the first time he cheated. Something like "The 8 Ball wasn't there, it was here." Then if they stand their ground, I would say "Okay you must be right, let's play on.".
    The 2nd cheating action, I would have responded similar to you.
    And I absolutely would not have shaken their hand, either time.
    But I might have added "I don't shake the hands of cheaters!"
    Good video, I really enjoyed it.

      You know what, you've got a good point there. On the first instance I could have at least set the framework of a position of I'm not afraid to speak up. Perhaps that would have avoided the second occurance then. Who knows...now I must reflect more😂😂

      @HereAfterBilliards It was for 9 - 12 in the Open Division and I was going last. He cheated. They advanced, we did not. We were on a roll that year with no superstar on the team. Just 5 guys who got along and all played solid. Dam shame 🫠

      @@HillbillyIslandLife That is a shame. It's nice to have superstars but sometimes they come with drama. Everytime I ever did well in Vegas it was because the team gel'd and we just started flowing. That one year we'd head back to the room after a match. Turned on the Cat Stevens 'Peace Train' to decompress. Then head to the next match to do battle again. It's an amazing feeling when a team comes together. Sucks that it came to an end that way for you guys.

    D is the answer, but what really hit me is the dodgy rule you mentioned about hitting random ball with a part of the cue stick and not call it a faul.
    It is the faul anywhere, New York or Timbuktu. No one is allowed to touch object ball on the table with the cue stick or hand or clothing. When you play the shot and then you accidentally hit any ball with your cue stick or hang or clothing, it is a faul.
    Importing idiotic local red neck rules into the game, simply ruins the game of pool.

    • @HereAfterBilliards
      @HereAfterBilliards  4 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      It's VNEA rule unfortunately. Here's the exact verbiage... "ACCIDENTALLY moving or touching any ball is not a foul unless: 1) the moved ball is the cue ball or 2) a moved ball makes contact with the cue ball or 3) a moved ball that is jumped off the table or pocketed or causes any ball to be jumped off the table or pocketed."
      I agree with you. It would cut down on BS

    I personally love it when a opponent tries that kind of crap. Then I can let my killer instant out and just be the alpha in the room . Personally if allowed I would have used my break cue to jump the 8 he placed in my way. And if made I would have snuggly said you can cheat if you want doesn't matter. Won't change the result. You had an opportunity to put him and his team on notice.

    This just happened at are local sat night tournament at the American legion. A player completely fouled didn't say a word about it, an the opponent didn't catch it as he had someone speakingnto him at the time. But I watched it. The guy who fouled won the match an had to play me for first or 2nd. I chewed his ass out for blatantly fouling an not calling it on himself, I told him he cheated. He made up excuse after excuse, said he was sorry after the fact, then just left without taking any of the prize money. That money will go back into the tournament the following week. Integrity speaks volumes about who you are as a person an competitor. Also this guy is a guest in a private club, an cheated against the guy who signed him in.. there's no room for a cheat, period.

    League is not worth risking a fist fight esp if alcohol was involved in any way. I would have asked what ball was driven to the rail. If he still wanted to cheat I probably would have strongly considered unscrewing my cue. Life is too short to let douche bags wreck what is supposed to be fun, which is why I play.

    Not new to pool but put down my stick for 28 years. Now back into it and doing leagues. I am Italian so this has alot to do with it. We don't have refs on league or tournament. My question is what good is a ref if they can't overturn it? I agree 1st one eat it. 2nd time you did the right thing. I can't stand cheaters and that type of crap really burns me! If your gonna cheat you might end up getting your ass beat! But only when a decent amount of money is on the line. I think you handled it just fine and respectable I might add.

    • @HereAfterBilliards
      @HereAfterBilliards  4 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Cheers man. The rule about refs is very specific unfortunately. If I don't call one over, even if they're watching, they can't take a side. It sucks because you hope that everyone plays with class and admits when they foul...but some people I guess don't. Glad you picked up the cues again! Welcome back!

    You handled all of this as poorly as could be in a tournament with a ref holy crap.
    First situation he didnt cheat you at all. Its his call where to put the 8ball. Try not hitting it next time. Sucks but thats life.
    Second situation. You explain what happened if it doesnt work you call the ref over let them make the call and live with what they ruled for the match.
    If the ruling wasnt right you discuss it with them after.

    • @HereAfterBilliards
      @HereAfterBilliards  4 หลายเดือนก่อน

      So you agree with what I did in scenario one as I accepted where he put the 8 ball.
      In the second scenario the ref isnt allowed to make a call as they weren't officially asked to ref the shot. Thats the rule.
      Thanks for commenting👌👍

      @@HereAfterBilliards it’s good that you recognize the issue. The mental part of pool is so important, it really can’t be overemphasized. That’s why sharking can be so effective and annoying. Blatant cheating will always make you angry, it’s a natural response.
      Funny story… 2 nights ago I was shooting a friendly game of 8 ball with a buddy and regular shooting partner. We only call cue ball fouls like your league situation. My buddy hit one of my balls with the butt of his cue during his missed shot. He put it back where he thought it was. Problem is, it previously went (I had already checked), but now it didn’t. He moved it back to within an inch or two of where it was and there is no doubt in my mind that he did NOT try to gain any advantage. So, my dilemma is, do I say something or just let it go? After all, this is just a friendly game. So I say nothing. But honestly I was a little bit pissed, so I went into 💯 competitive mode. I wasn’t pissed at him, I was just pissed about the situation. So I just hyper focused on the task at hand and I ran 4 balls, but couldn’t break out my “problem” ball, despite one heroic attempt. Then I played a successful safety while freeing my ball. Got ball in hand and ran out. I then proceeded to beat the brakes off him all night. Lol. We play weekly and it’s usually pretty competitive, but he only won 2 games all night after that (probably played about12). There is no doubt in my mind that had the situation not occurred, it would have been a closer match. So, I get it. Sometimes you just have to release the Kraken.

      @@HereAfterBilliards it’s funny because while I was pissed, I was never pissed at my buddy. In fact, after I missed my attempt to break out my new problem ball and as I was sizing up my safety options, I was pissed at myself for not saying something. I could have been out. Had I said to him “hey, that ball went before, it was right here”, there is no doubt in my mind that he would have believed me and not given it a second thought. It’s a difficult situation in a friendly game because you don’t want to be “that guy”.
