In Traditions of the Trade, you CAN finish it stealthily. Instead of going through the metal detectors at the end with the briefcase, you can completely avoid metal detectors by going back to the side of the Hotel where Wulf's room is, and in one of the hallways, there is an elevator. You ride this elevator back to the main floor and you go out through the kitchen's back door. No metal detectors and no one suspecting anything (unless you talk to the chef in the kitchen then wait for 5 seconds until he alerts the guards.). Another way is exploiting the game, you drop the briefcase before you enter a metal detector, go through the detector, then try and grab the briefcase from the good side. It works most of the time.

Fun fact, you can finish the penultimate mission before the reception alerts Ort-Meyer. Go straight to the elevator, get close to the button so the menu pops up, scroll to going up, turn around towards the exit, press the button and run immediately. You should be able to get out of the elevator before the doors close and the way down the basement is open to you.

I always loved the grungy look that a lot of these late 90s to earlly 00s had.
And the Hitman OST is another great thing from this era, extremely moody.
But for me the most iconic line of dialog in the is still "I need to use the bathroom."

OH! A dirty detail about this game I absolutely love is how the dual wielding works in this game. Basically if you are wielding a pistol and pick up a singlehanded weapon, you put this new weapon in your left hand and dual wield them. You use the shooting speed and magazine size of the weapon in your right hand. My point? Well, there is a unique weapon in the game that only the bartenders have: a sawn-off shotgun.
Put a gun in your right hand, get the sawn off shotgun from a bartender and you have a 15 round, rapidfire semiauto shotgun with the realoadspeed of a pistol. puts the minigun to shame! Have fun!

07:10 Columbia. MY GOD, COLUMBIA! That is pretty much collective nightmare of every Hitman fan everywhere. There's a reason why long time fans were getting nervous when Hitman 2(2018 announced Columbia will come back).
and yeah, you're right about the dirty aspect. Basically, when IO's creative lead was asked about how Codename 47 and Hitman 2: the silent assasin turned out so different, he explained that the first game was them just throwing darts to the board and seeing what would stuck.

this is like spot on dude, I have memories of how my big bro cheered me on so much to complete this game, the docks are fucking HARD if you try to do it “the intended way” and it would be 100% justifiable to quit midway through but I’m so glad I kept going. and finished the game. And that boss from the Columbia level is absolutely hilarious, apparently there’s a gun that is his weakness but it’s so much funnier for him to just run out of lines I laughed my ass off with my brother, dirty games are just unexpectedly hilarious like that

As a child, I loved this game very much =) I played a large number of hours in it. The most difficult thing was to understand what was required of you, so the passage took a long process throughout the year. I could not go through the Assassination of Lee Hong a very large number of times, I even had to abandon the game because of this =) Bit this time was cool, and I still love it and other Hitman games.

Dirty is some good nomenclature to describe this era. This was when I was really starting to fall in love with games. I remember the early hitman games and max payne and all that great great mid 3d era beautiful jank. This era created so many great games on accident. It was around this time that Smash Melee came out and built a great game solely on the programming glitches. 11:33 look at that mad hatter looking fuck. I actually just loved the vibe and feel these old hitman levels gave it was really an ugly world filled with all kinds of scumbags. Hitman 2 did that really good also it just made the world feel really hostile. The newer titles are way better games but they don't feel as gritty as these games. That clip of you playing the rotterdam levels brought back that feeling. I have so many fond memories playing Hitman 1 2 and Contacts with a friend of mine smoking weed and trying to dissect these missions late at night playing till the sun came up. The Rotterdam missions in contracts and codename 47 really had that cold fear feeling going on totally felt like an absolutely fucked european port city filled with criminals and hookers in the winter.

The inconsitencies in the game's own rules drive me so fucking crazy.
Like I mean I'm not a huge fan of dirty deaths. Like traps you couldn't have known or seen coming or that punish you for exploring (which in a game about exploring your possibilities is just dumb) are infuriating, but they're "fine". However what absolutely has no place and really really really brings a game down is when it's inconsitent with its own system. Disguises randomly not working, walls being more of a suggestion (especially when it comes to detecting killed guards on the towers), "restricted areas", walking away from alerted guards causing them to chase after you (even if they haven't seen you), while staying close to them will eventually cause them to exit the alerted state, ...

I’ve listened to this video more times than I can count and still love it. A brief dive into Codename 47 with some history about the mechanics and game styles of the time.
It does make me wonder if you could make a “Dirty” game in the modern day, or if it’s an antiquated concept of previous technology. The low-poly art style can be replicated, but would a game have a similar level of charm?

  • @deadspace4755
    @deadspace4755 9 หลายเดือนก่อน

You must review Oni, oh my, that game is tragically so exquisite. The protagonist is cute and badass at the same time. And it has lessons, its story themes. The second to last mission is a prime example of that especially with its mission tip when you check your mission status. Really clever use of mission tips. The game is genius.
l would call it Prototype Dark souls combat with only hand to hand combat. The fact that if you manage to go behind someone and break their back, will surely defeat any common enemy, stronger enemies will suffer huge damage.
The difficulty also changes enemy placement, hard will have tougher enemies instead of common ones.

The big problem with Hitman Codename 47 is that it has aged and very badly. At the time it stood out for its physics and its graphic effects added to that catchy soundtrack and accompanied by a graphic engine created exclusively by IOI. The problem is that today, 20 years later, it is understood that it does not have the same impact. It was surpassed and the evolution it has had in the saga is remarkable. In my humble opinion, it is not a foul game far from it. It is a title that has aged. As we will all do at some point ...

@@jordannicotra2168 Yeah it is, like I said, its crazy long, final runtime is looking to be 2 hour and 20 min, I started drafting the idea back in December when I thought I could slip it out in January, didnt really get the research started till march, cut to now and its blown up into a movie length retrospective thats had me testing out all new types of editing, gonna be worth the wait once it drops (if you like mecha anime that is)

I actually don't think he's the 47th clone, I think the name has to do with a line the doc spouts during the final showdown, something about "unlocking the potential of the 47th chromosome", so yea, that's a thing. I guess those 48 agents are even, err, better?

You explained the old games really well and that proves how great they are in hindsight, the hindsight of watching how modern games are now. To me, they are mediocre and 'generic' at times. This is the worst decision when you make your game boring, copying what trends are popular so you can get more money.
Games left their winning, original formulas and went to templates. A bad game is better than a mediocre which bores you.
Exceptions are always possible but l just don't see anything fun after the 2010s.
The 90s(especially the late 90s) and the PS2 era are the masters of creativity, or "dirty". Do you know about Lifeline on PS2? l love that game so much, it gave me an experience you can't get from newer games.
Rome 1 is one of the masters of every design done right, from the sounds, voice acting, immersion feeling, and fun factor.
Alpha Protocol(2010) would also apply for "Dirty". Despite that, l have replayed that game over 5 times, which says something. Old games have that replayable factor and the hilarious moments and cheats, of course, can't forget about cheats(the funny ones as well).
Every game has its flaws and some of them are catalysts that assist in making the game rememberable.
To me: In the past, they tried a lot. Added a lot of things in a small package. It is amazing how games with such low space required, can easily beat their larger-in-size successors. But now, they all got lazy, they release products, large boxes which have tiny contents inside them.
That is games in a nutshell.

10:28 bro you don’t have to run through the scanners, you can just drop the suitcase while you’re jumping from one balcony through another (the room where your target is) then you just go out take it and you’re done. No alarms.

I have very fond memories playing this game when I was a lot younger. I would replay the first mission over and over just messing around and laughing at the dialogue. The dirty game era is truly missed

I too love this game. Also, there is a back entrance by the kitchen in the hotel level, so you don't have to exit through the front door. The whole level can be played through without alarming the guards and I love it so much.
