I found this video by searching "mayonnaise review". I'm glad I actually stuck around and watched this though, it feels a lot like older game reviews you saw in the early 2010s and it kind of makes it nostalgic in a weird way, it's well put together and entertaining too.

Like the idea that the eclipse cannon was originally going to be used to destroy the Black Arms, but was later changed to target Earth instead, due to Gerald’s insane revenge plan. The Ark was a research facility for the "betterment of mankind" right? Why would it have a giant laser cannon on it? Also it would make a lot more sense that several people helped create the eclipse cannon, instead of Gerald someone doing it without anyone noticing. It was likely originally a research facility, but Gerald probably informed G.U.N. about the threat of the Black Arms and approved of the addition of a laser cannon to combat them should they return. We all know what happens next.
That dude single-handedly designed NiGHTS. A game that Steven fucking Spielberg flew to Japan JUST to demo privately during the development. A game which even Nintendo's Shigeru Miyamoto to this day considers a misunderstood masterpiece of game design. Shadow the Hedgehog was my first 3D Sonic game… Yeah. Idk why I skipped the Adventure games and Heroes. I just went straight to Shadow… cause it was a cartoony cute character that was edgy WITH A GUN. That was my shit as a kid. It may not be a good game, but I enjoyed the hell out of it anyways. Also, the opening and ending songs by Crush 40 are BANGERS.
Shadow the Hedgehog is one of my favorite games despite how terrible I know it actually is. Amid the janky gameplay, poor level design and absurdly nonsensical plotline, I can't help but enjoy almost every bit of it, and it puts a smile on my face every time.

Finally a Shadow the Hedgehog Review that's not a harsh bashing thing. I like Shadow's game he deserves more of his own games and Shadow the Hedgehog deserves a remastered version of his game along with a sequel called Shadow the Hedgehog 2 Sonic Unleashed 2 and Sonic 06 2 need to happen too I like darker edgier and more serious stuff too. I like Shadow he's my favorite Sonic Character.
I'd say 06 should be remastered (or more accurately finished) before getting a sequel lol But yes I agree, StH needs a remake and a sequel. Hell they could remake the Quadrilogy (SA1, 2, Heroes, and Shadow) and bundle it as one game since they are all connected lorewise and all 4 deserve a remake.
I have to admit I didn't play much of Shadow as a kid, just one path through at a friend's house. However I recently watched a Let's Player play through it (every mission on every level) as part of a quest to play every Sonic game and it held up a lot better than I remembered and than people talk about it. It certainly had it's fair share of jank, but not much more than the Adventure games. Tails Gets Trolled is similarly a work of art.
12:14 Totally agree. i think more effort went into the ending theme songs of the end credits than they did the outcome of the story for each of the 10 endings. I understand there's only so much you can do with limited resources and whatnot (shadow with the kneeling boss be it eggman, doom or sonic, having all the chaos emeralds, having a "this is who i am" speech, either laughing, walking away or chopping eggman) not even stills or an fmv, just that...and the songs give off more emotion than those could. when powerman 5000 plays you really think "wow this is more extreme than I thought, and DID HE JUST MENTION HEAVEN AND HELL?!", when "chosen one" plays you really feel somber for shadow. and when all hail shadow plays boy do you feel victorious. I even enjoyed the cut tracks "All of me", "Broken" and "Who I am".
It's awesome but my main problem besides the bugs is the fact that u actually can't kill the president as a choice bc i play a lot of multiple choice games such as mass effect, the Witcher, and Skyrim.

I know I'm gonna get alot of rage for saying this but. I love Shadow The Hedgehog. Not because he is my favorite character but I love it when he uses guns, knives, his edgy style, his powers, the story, not very hesitate to kill etc. Sure the one thing I can easily agree what most people complain about this game is.... Going overboard with swearing yes I agree. Sonic isn't built to be a violent video game character like Doomslayer, Scorpion, Master Chief. Not to mention I love it when he only loses a portion of rings instead of every single one of them just like every Sonic The Hedgehog game does.
I like everything including the profanity i love games such as halo, doom, gta, mass effect, and cod the only problem i have is the glitches and how slow the fucking homing attack is in the game other than that 10/10
Good Vid! Nice seeing some sort of appreciation for shadow the hedgehog even if half of it is for how funny it is, but talking about it's good points. I sorta have the same sentiment, but My feelings on shadow the hedgehog are kinda complicated, in that I like a good chunk of it and it's potential than the game itself. I'm not exactly the hugest sonic fan as games even if I like it for other reasons. Shadow as a game while not terrible, is rather mediocre and dull for me. The idea of mixing a shooter with a platformer is not new since Jak 2 and Ratchet exist, but with what shadow is, it would've have it's own spin. I think my problem is that the shooting and the platforming do blend rather seamlessly, they aren't that engaging. I think ideally the game would've probably work best like something like Metal wolf Chaos or vanquish, where it rewards you for your combat and speed reflexes, I think Shadow doing something like that would've been really cool. A thing I like about Shadow the hedgehog is how early 2000s action movie core it is, which for a action platformer game, let alone a sonic I think gives it a strong identity. IIRC stuff like Mission impossible, Terminator, and The matrix were huge influences on the game and you can easily see that within the game. Another appealing part for me is the game's tone and what it tried to do. Part of what I like about the sonic games from that era is how they did try to go all out with their stories, and while it isn't successful, It's always fun and interesting to me. As whacky as it is, I genuinely think there is potential in the game's story but because of how overambitious it is, things didn't quite match that but it's never boring or uninteresting with that. As for the game's music, I somewhat agree and disagree with your stance on it. I think as a sonic game, Shadow the hedgehog's music overall isn't one of the best, but looked on it's own term, I think it's pretty damn good. Apart from the vocal suits, Shadow does have some of my favorite sonic tracks like Egg Dealer's theme, which is my favorite robotnik theme in a game btw.
We forget that the critics where adults. As a kid I didn’t give a shit about the story or anything. I just liked being shadow with a gun and a motorbike. When the game would restart at the end I wouldn’t know why or anything I just played it again
"utterly absurd" is pretty much a strong point to this game. There are SO many moments which are just insane for a Sonic game. Like in the final/true mission, the sonic casts get FROZEN by ALIEN GAS and almost end up as a FEAST for ALIEN LARVAS. WHAT THE FUCK. Shadow the Hedgehog was actually my very first Sonic game back in the days and I know certain people can't fathom this being the first sonic game for anybody. But I honestly enjoyed it quite a lot as a child. I knew other Sonic games and its entire franchise has been all about fast and speedy gameplay but I genuinely thought Shadow the Hedgehog was a fun idea with bonkers concepts, insane story and dialogue and if you aren't stuck up as a hardcore Sonic fan, you can definitely get some enjoyment out of it. Also Omega is best sonic character and paved the way for me discovering my interest in the mecha genre
This game came out at a turning point for me. I was obsessed with Sonic at the time, but was starting to lean towards the more mature games when i got it for christmas that year. This provided a great balance. I tried it again recently and surprisingly still enjoy it despite its flaws. The bloated levels was definitely a big problem for me because I made a point of going AROUND levels I hated to try to reach the endings I needed to unlock the true ending.
Thank you very much for this! I've always loved this game and I always thought it was unfair (and tiring) the trash that it received. Like, we can discuss a lot of things about it but it is still fun and enjoyable. I think that Sonic has that great thing that you can decide whether to take his stories seriously or not, because it always tries to convey something but in the most over-the-top manner. And I agree on everything, even in the Heroes part (and Heroes was the game with which I got aware about Sonic, and when I finally bought it, it was... "eh", but really enjoyed the other games of the time, including Shadow)
I'm actually a big fan of this game, mostly for its soundtrack & concept though. I also have so many amazing memories of the multiplayer, i'm surprised you didn't mention that mode. I think a Sonic spin-off with guns was a great idea in this game, just executed in one of the worst ways possible. The whole morality thing was also a great idea, however it obviously could've been done better like NOT having to complete everything to get to the canon ending. What should've happened is have that Last Story through the Hero route, Dark route stays the same although i personally can't see Shadow answering to Black Doom, especially when he's more powerful so Black Doom could still be a final boss as Shadow would betray him, yet it'd come at a cost since he would never learn his TRUE past and/or purpose. Neutral route would have Shadow perhaps claiming all the chaos emeralds for himself & could possibly still fight Black Doom to get the last one, that being his main motive and saving the world not. He also most likely wouldn't have help from say, Sonic or anybody on his team, but could still work with the rest of Team Dark. Either way, they should honestly redo this game with all the gunplay, darker tones that this game created but obviously this time do it right. I feel like a gun toting, darker Sonic spin-off such as Shadow the Hedgehog can still have a place in gaming, if only it can be done right....& as a personal request, they keep the OST the same.
Shadow is the ultimate pick up and play Sonic game. To appreciate the play experience you just have to vibe with enjoying being Shadow, enjoying being in this fucked up zone doing a fucked up mission and imbibing the flavor. It's delightful. Videogames are at their best when the creative process is anarchic and untethered, and Shadow is probably the pinnacle of this ever coming to fruition as a part of an established series with a reputation to worry about. I think it'd frankly incredible the game happened and it makes me very happy. I personally find you start appreciating video game artistry all the more playing the games that try to do something really eclectic and reveal the seam in the process.
I love this game and it's easily one of the most fun experiences I've ever had playing a Sonic game. I actually enjoy the gameplay and respect almost every decision that Sonic Team made when making this due to how bold it all was, but I'm not gonna deny that this game was a fucking drug trip in terms of the story. And I loved every second of it. It was like watching Attack of the Clones. Every time there was a genuinely good moment, I was happy as hell, and whenever there was an absurdly stupid moment, I was even happier because it's so fucking cheesy and goofy.
i love this game so much. i'm glad i picked it up secondhand back when it was really cheap. really, the thing i can't get over is the controls. if this game got a remake (or even just a rerelease) i'd be ALL over that.
I remember playing the game when it first came out I remember my family went to blockbuster I think and my older brother bought the game we got home and played it he ended up not liking it but I absolutely loved it something about shadow running around gunning people down and swearing was cool to me I still love the game and I know it’s terrible honestly I think people are way to hard on the game yes it has its problems like the terrible disjointed plot but I can’t help but love this game just putting it in and running through the level gunning everyone down weather they’re friend or foe brings a smile to my face because of how over the top it is people always talk about how edgy the 2000s where and in my eyes nothing matches how hilariously edgy this game is I can’t help but just laugh and go along with shadow on his disjointed quest of self discovery from gunning down aliens or killing every gun soldier this game is probably one of my favorites like sonic 06 I find genuine enjoyment from this game
I can't believe you said the soundtrack has lacking tracks, it's literally the Sonic (Universe) game with the best soundtrack. Nearly every track is amazing and it's incredibly tacky and in bad taste to say this masterpiece OST is lacking. Crazy statement imo.
Heh, I got this for my b-day from my siblings and we had a hoot. I remember it with much fondness. There was a video called something like "The incredibly tragic shadow show" which made fun of it and has some lines we always quoted. I have to see if I can find it again.

Shadow is a super fun character, I was always baffled of critics of the guns which to me was a highlight I love the variety of levels but def agree that some are genuinely frustrating especially when you have to kill something that will not stop hiding

I strongly disagree with your opinion on Sonic Heroes. It's my all time favorite Sonic game. I like big levels, I like replaying well designed levels multiple times, and Heroes has very big, mostly very well designed levels. It's fun, it looks super pretty, and it's an all around good time. Of course, this could just be nostalgia talking, but I actually replayed this game recently and I still hold the same opinion that it's the best. Adventure is second place for me, simply because it feels almost as fast as Heroes, and I love shitposting as Big the Cat by doing terrible Facebook fishing memes. And Shadow the Hedgehog is in third place for me. It's batshit insane and I fucking loved almost every second of it. The Doom is the only part of the game where I wasn't having fun. I even had fun with Lost Impact. One of the best Sonics. Oh, and Adventure 2 is somewhere on the list. I don't know, every time I play the game, I enjoy some of my time with it, but after finishing it, I think about it and I just get mad about it. In hindsight, it wasn't very good. I know that sounds strange considering I have Adventure 1 at second place, but that's just the way the cookie crumbles I guess.
The story is weird, some levels are terrible but the gameplay is mostly fun as hell. I've got this 100%, love it. I've got up to the level after the Eggman boss as Tails in Adventure 2, haven't gone past for one reason; BORING

Shadow actually wasn’t the first Sonic character to use a gun, the first was Fang the sniper(AKA Nack the weasel) who first appeared back in 1994.
Also there guns in sonic adventure 1 when shooting at choas and there's was a gunshot in sa2 Where Maria got shot

The idea of mixing a shooter with a platformer is not new since Jak 2 and Ratchet exist, but with what shadow is, it would've have it's own spin. I think my problem is that the shooting and the platforming do blend rather seamlessly, they aren't that engaging. I think ideally the game would've probably work best like something like Metal wolf Chaos or vanquish, where it rewards you for your combat and speed reflexes, I think Shadow doing something like that would've been really cool.
A thing I like about Shadow the hedgehog is how early 2000s action movie core it is, which for a action platformer game, let alone a sonic I think gives it a strong identity. IIRC stuff like Mission impossible, Terminator, and The matrix were huge influences on the game and you can easily see that within the game.
Another appealing part for me is the game's tone and what it tried to do. Part of what I like about the sonic games from that era is how they did try to go all out with their stories, and while it isn't successful, It's always fun and interesting to me. As whacky as it is, I genuinely think there is potential in the game's story but because of how overambitious it is, things didn't quite match that but it's never boring or uninteresting with that.
As for the game's music, I somewhat agree and disagree with your stance on it. I think as a sonic game, Shadow the hedgehog's music overall isn't one of the best, but looked on it's own term, I think it's pretty damn good. Apart from the vocal suits, Shadow does have some of my favorite sonic tracks like Egg Dealer's theme, which is my favorite robotnik theme in a game btw.

We forget that the critics where adults. As a kid I didn’t give a shit about the story or anything. I just liked being shadow with a gun and a motorbike. When the game would restart at the end I wouldn’t know why or anything I just played it again
"utterly absurd" is pretty much a strong point to this game. There are SO many moments which are just insane for a Sonic game. Like in the final/true mission, the sonic casts get FROZEN by ALIEN GAS and almost end up as a FEAST for ALIEN LARVAS. WHAT THE FUCK.
Shadow the Hedgehog was actually my very first Sonic game back in the days and I know certain people can't fathom this being the first sonic game for anybody. But I honestly enjoyed it quite a lot as a child. I knew other Sonic games and its entire franchise has been all about fast and speedy gameplay but I genuinely thought Shadow the Hedgehog was a fun idea with bonkers concepts, insane story and dialogue and if you aren't stuck up as a hardcore Sonic fan, you can definitely get some enjoyment out of it.
Also Omega is best sonic character and paved the way for me discovering my interest in the mecha genre
This game came out at a turning point for me. I was obsessed with Sonic at the time, but was starting to lean towards the more mature games when i got it for christmas that year. This provided a great balance. I tried it again recently and surprisingly still enjoy it despite its flaws.
The bloated levels was definitely a big problem for me because I made a point of going AROUND levels I hated to try to reach the endings I needed to unlock the true ending.

Thank you very much for this! I've always loved this game and I always thought it was unfair (and tiring) the trash that it received. Like, we can discuss a lot of things about it but it is still fun and enjoyable. I think that Sonic has that great thing that you can decide whether to take his stories seriously or not, because it always tries to convey something but in the most over-the-top manner.
And I agree on everything, even in the Heroes part (and Heroes was the game with which I got aware about Sonic, and when I finally bought it, it was... "eh", but really enjoyed the other games of the time, including Shadow)
I'm actually a big fan of this game, mostly for its soundtrack & concept though. I also have so many amazing memories of the multiplayer, i'm surprised you didn't mention that mode. I think a Sonic spin-off with guns was a great idea in this game, just executed in one of the worst ways possible. The whole morality thing was also a great idea, however it obviously could've been done better like NOT having to complete everything to get to the canon ending. What should've happened is have that Last Story through the Hero route, Dark route stays the same although i personally can't see Shadow answering to Black Doom, especially when he's more powerful so Black Doom could still be a final boss as Shadow would betray him, yet it'd come at a cost since he would never learn his TRUE past and/or purpose. Neutral route would have Shadow perhaps claiming all the chaos emeralds for himself & could possibly still fight Black Doom to get the last one, that being his main motive and saving the world not. He also most likely wouldn't have help from say, Sonic or anybody on his team, but could still work with the rest of Team Dark. Either way, they should honestly redo this game with all the gunplay, darker tones that this game created but obviously this time do it right. I feel like a gun toting, darker Sonic spin-off such as Shadow the Hedgehog can still have a place in gaming, if only it can be done right....& as a personal request, they keep the OST the same.

Shadow is the ultimate pick up and play Sonic game. To appreciate the play experience you just have to vibe with enjoying being Shadow, enjoying being in this fucked up zone doing a fucked up mission and imbibing the flavor. It's delightful. Videogames are at their best when the creative process is anarchic and untethered, and Shadow is probably the pinnacle of this ever coming to fruition as a part of an established series with a reputation to worry about. I think it'd frankly incredible the game happened and it makes me very happy. I personally find you start appreciating video game artistry all the more playing the games that try to do something really eclectic and reveal the seam in the process.
Once you play this game, you'll never turn back on your decision

I love this game and it's easily one of the most fun experiences I've ever had playing a Sonic game. I actually enjoy the gameplay and respect almost every decision that Sonic Team made when making this due to how bold it all was, but I'm not gonna deny that this game was a fucking drug trip in terms of the story.
And I loved every second of it. It was like watching Attack of the Clones. Every time there was a genuinely good moment, I was happy as hell, and whenever there was an absurdly stupid moment, I was even happier because it's so fucking cheesy and goofy.
I like the idea of the karma system but the fact the true ending is only accessable by getting ALL of the other endings will drive people crazy

I remember playing the game when it first came out I remember my family went to blockbuster I think and my older brother bought the game we got home and played it he ended up not liking it but I absolutely loved it something about shadow running around gunning people down and swearing was cool to me I still love the game and I know it’s terrible honestly I think people are way to hard on the game yes it has its problems like the terrible disjointed plot but I can’t help but love this game just putting it in and running through the level gunning everyone down weather they’re friend or foe brings a smile to my face because of how over the top it is people always talk about how edgy the 2000s where and in my eyes nothing matches how hilariously edgy this game is I can’t help but just laugh and go along with shadow on his disjointed quest of self discovery from gunning down aliens or killing every gun soldier this game is probably one of my favorites like sonic 06 I find genuine enjoyment from this game

I strongly disagree with your opinion on Sonic Heroes. It's my all time favorite Sonic game. I like big levels, I like replaying well designed levels multiple times, and Heroes has very big, mostly very well designed levels. It's fun, it looks super pretty, and it's an all around good time.
Of course, this could just be nostalgia talking, but I actually replayed this game recently and I still hold the same opinion that it's the best. Adventure is second place for me, simply because it feels almost as fast as Heroes, and I love shitposting as Big the Cat by doing terrible Facebook fishing memes.
And Shadow the Hedgehog is in third place for me. It's batshit insane and I fucking loved almost every second of it. The Doom is the only part of the game where I wasn't having fun. I even had fun with Lost Impact. One of the best Sonics.
Oh, and Adventure 2 is somewhere on the list. I don't know, every time I play the game, I enjoy some of my time with it, but after finishing it, I think about it and I just get mad about it. In hindsight, it wasn't very good. I know that sounds strange considering I have Adventure 1 at second place, but that's just the way the cookie crumbles I guess.
