Hedwig's Fugue

  • This is a fugue composed upon a Harry Potter's movie theme (Hedwig's theme), by John Williams. I tried to mantain the atmosphere of the theme by using the celesta (the same instrument used originally). This one was really hard, as the subject is chromatic and I decided to use 4 voices. I think the result came out pretty good. Hope you enjoy!

    Well, this theme is even harder than the royal theme to write a fugue out of. Well done!

    I guess what I heard was 1:30 it seems to lose harmonic momentum there but I like it, mistake or not. It seems to come at the end of a phrase so perhaps adding one or 2 notes to indicate the dominant function.

      What do you mean? It doesn't have the steady rhythm or dance ability of a gigue. It's also clearly a fugue, with all four entries in the exposition.

    Well done, mate, well done!
    There is only one little mistake (it has nothing to do with the fugue itself): the celesta is notated an octave lower than it sound.

    • @607
      @607 2 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      That's the way it should be, actually. That is, it's the orchestra standard.

    • @princepsangelusmors
      @princepsangelusmors 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      That's not a mistake. The celesta is a transposing instrument. It transposes up an octave, just like the glockenspiel.

    I just wish you hadn't used that vibraphone sound. But I like the piece . I'm gonna listen again. I like the moments of dissonance I mean it is the 21st century and I am not sure it's the dissonance that bothers me you might have a misinterpreted harmonic function somewhere in there. I find them in sheet music sometimes. But good work.

    Hi Christian,
    This is so well written!! I can totally see this being played by a string orchestra. Would you mind sending me a PDF of this and I can orchestrate it for strings? I have no desire to make money off this but I know my Chamber Orchestra could learn so much from this. If you're okay with this, I'll send you my email and, of course, you will be credited. Thanks so much!
