As always, I welcome these records of your journeys into the far flung corners of the world.
For some reason, a memory has resurfaced of being a guest at your house and your mum- the wonderful Gloria Pilkington- telling you that one of your cousins had adopted a whale. We became hysterical with laughter and suggested a number of surreal outcomes to that scenario while she gazed upon us in kindly bemusement.
It might have been then or another time when we were watching Live at Pompeii and your mum walked in, sighed and said "ah, a fine figure of a man" at the sight of David Gilmour with his shirt off.

A few years ago, when my son was about 5, I got halfway though my early shift and discovered he'd got hold of my phone while I was still snoring and filmed himself delivering a report for a news agency he called 'Bitterly Cold News'. Then he placed the phone back on the bedside table before I woke up
There was all sorts of disjointed stuff in there, weird weather reports and garbled chatter but at one point he said "The public should be aware of a dummy murderer on the loose who killed a man in a car". It sent shivers down my spine! I kept imagining a homicidal mannequin escaped from a department store and a dead motorist slumped over his steering wheel.
No idea where he got the idea from or his skillful use of language. When I asked him about it later saying it was brilliantly creepy, he just looked at me blankly and said "I didn't say that daddy". When I showed him the film he said "No, it doesn't look like something I would do".
To this day, he denies all involvement but i've still got the film!

There is an old advert for St. Bruno's Flake where a suave character in a Greek fisherman's hat is pursued through the streets of a Mediteranean town by dolly birds attracted to the scent of his aromatic pipe tobacco. I can't remember why I feel the need to mention that though. th-cam.com/video/NpifzKtVCwg/w-d-xo.html

"A pipe does something for a man". Yeah, it's given me a bad cough and made me worry even more about cancer. I still like it despite the absence of women with pert breasts chasing me down cobbled streets.

Here's to lifts that don't smell like piss.
We need more of them in the towers of Stannington. I'd settle for ones that don't smell of cheap perfume, the last burger from Deliveroo, bad, acrid cigs, the scent glands of large dogs, the anger of violent men and the desperation of their shattered wives.
Smoke from good quality pipe tobacco, musky womanish aromas and the echo of children's laughter should replace them
A few years ago you did a great acoustic cover of Bowie's 'Loving the Alien'. I thought it was brilliant .No idea why you took that down.

@@globaltreats Bloody hell! I've just found it again really easily after it seemingly disappeared. It really is a great cover. I can't remember how I stumbled upon it several years ago. I think I was trying to look you up to see if you were still making music. It was a joy to find it.
I hope you are still writing songs. You had a great ear for a melody back in the day and wrote amazing lyrics. It's likely you still do
