I do the very work that you do here in the United States , you should put enough air in the tire to hold the lock ring in place but do not air up the tire till it on the truck ! This will help prevent a three piece rim coming apart and not caged between the two tires And or the tire to blow out when you are putting the tire on the truck ! Only pump up the tire after you have removed your jacks and the tire is secure on the truck and you are away from it ! I have seen cracks in the locking ring on them type of wheels and if it break it would be bad !! I have also see tires blow out setting in a parking lot and not going down the road ! I hope this will keep you safe and able to do this type of work for years to come to support your family ....
You are absolutely right Randy, this happen ed in Malaysia last year , when the worker inflated a crane tyre and it exploded the rim hit his head caused severe head injuries.died on the spot.
@@EnemyDwarf-TTV there are a lot of cracks at the rim - 7:44min, where the nuts tighten the whole wheel, so you can't be 100% sure it will not blow apart when pressuring the tyre. I know this is not normal, but accident is accident, otherwise it should call future prevision and wouldn't have accidents.

Put some top fuel drag slicks on them rims, it will make the truck go faster. Really liked the cracks by the holes for the lugs, good for another 100,000 miles. Can't be too safe!!

Throughout the procedure we can watch here - pulling the rims first, then the tyres - we can also see that these trucks are the last of the Dinosaurs, technically spoken: bias tyres (check the size, 10.00 - 20, so it's not a radial tyre), split rims, and other interesting technical features rooted in the past. But still running.

Bias tyres are not made anymore since the late 1970s or so, so any stock of vintage rubbers would be very hard to find. However, Nylons are still manufactured for some vintage cars the rims of which do not accept radials. One company called Mitas, situated in the Czech republic, is a specialist for vintage nylon tyres.

Wow! Lots of things different in whatever country this is in. Not much for OSHA regulations, me either......but some things I just won't do. Wearing flip-flops while mounting tires is high on the list. Airing up junk tires is another no go. The last junk tire I installed blew out at 70psi, glad it was bolted to the truck. Still got injured, but could have been dead.

Probably the truck driver was lucky to find those emergency used tires, when you are traveling from one side of the world to the other, sometimes even a gallon of water is hard to find, I know.
