If I had to guess the washers in the heel are a cost reduction and ease of assembly thing, although in the end it creates more complexity. I’ve had guitars with tapered heel joints and you need either 2 or 3 different screw sizes and the location matters, this means you have to have inventory on 3 different screws, segregate them and have a process to indicate what goes where. By using washers you need only buy one screw size but now you need specific work instructions telling you how many washers go where creating room for error unless you create an in process inspection.

    • @j-man9457
      @j-man9457  6 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

Good point. However on these the heel is rounded but it's not tapered base of pocket to top of pocket meaning the 4 screw locations are all the same thickness. The ferrule holes are just too deep so they use washers to level the ferrule depth to the body so it's not counter sunk......🤔

    1) The body and pickguard do indeed look almost identical to the JX model. No doubt they probably did it to save on tooling costs, help speed the assembly process, and to help reduce the number of unique parts they need to manufacture/keep in stock. The way they did it is actually kind of brilliant!
    3) That contoured neck heel is REALLY elegant looking! I love the way they designed it, even if it is slightly sloppy in execution.
    4) The neck angle is undoubtedly the thing to fix here, to get the action right. I had to do this on my older Firefly FFTL, too.
    5) I say go ahead and use those brass saddles! I don’t think I’ve seen brass saddles for modern-style 6-saddle Tele bridges before!
    6) Is the heel on the neck a Strat-style or Tele-style heel? I’m just wondering if they made the necks interchangeable with the JX as well. I also wonder why they went with smaller frets on this one.

Also, I pulled a guitar out of its case after a couple of years (literally behind the bed) and the bridge pick up is silent or maybe turns up to 0.1 out 10 but neck is 100% loud ( volume and tone work fine w neck PU. Hey thanks man....
Hmmm weird. If the neck pickup is working then we know. The jack is good. And at least half the switch works as well. In the middle position on the switch do you have just neck still or nothing at all?
My guess would be that the wire from the bridge pickup to the switch let go from the solder. Or the ground to the volume pot isn't making proper contact.
If all wires are soldered correctly, the pickup may have just gone bad. Variances in humidity, hot and cold, dryness or moisture can definitely cause some issues. However start with the switch connections, then the volume pot connections and rule out the easy stuff first....👍

I stand corrected, but is it true that every WCk guitar you have bought, has required a good deal of work , and upgrades to make them serviceable instruments?
No way the neck is 1/4 sawn.
The grain would be vertical, looking at the butt pocket end of the neck.
I believe these guitars are " ya get what you pay for" quality.
U can not buy them in a shop, 'cos no shop can make money with guitars sent from suppliers in this condition.
And since the quality is variable, there are 21:48 plenty returned from dissatisfied on-line customers, adopting the return policy , of the seller. As you have proved, by purchasing returned product. Buyers beware is my conclusion. Get StwMac book, and become a backshed luthier.

He replaced the first four strings
    with banjo strings,
then replaced the A string with a D,
and replaced the low E string with an A."
The standard tuning for the 5 string banjo is open G tuning (G,D,G,B,D)
whereas the standard tuning for a guitar is😢😢
    E,A,D,G,B,E.
The open tuning on the banjo is much easier to get started playing because if you strum the strings on the open tuned banjo, it will sound good because you are playing a G chord.22 Mar 2019
