I never played this as a kid, and clearly I missed out...but I gotta say, I freaking love the 5th generation art styles. The realism of today is great; but there's something that can never be emulated about the look of mid-90s games.
I remember being obsessed to this game that i must 100% every Crash Bandicoot on PS1 (1,2, warped). This game for me was very special because i must go here and there to discover secrets (there was no internet access for me) and when i found those secrets, i felt proud lol...
Such an amazing game.

oh man i remember finishing this game when i was 6. it took me months and this guy beat it in around an hour.
this may or may not sound weird, but the voice of the person reading the donations is so... relaxing? Soothing? idk it's relaxing take that as a compliment

The ultimate reason o watch vids like is because they explain things. They explain everything. I know it's hard, for others, to just explain while trying to break a record, but that's the main reason I don't watch them as much as donated videos like this. I, personally, love these vids and all like it.

at 36:30 the snake tunnel in Sunset Vista has a hidden off screen mask, granted it would be backtracking in a speed run, but it is there

Not really , he knows his shit , it's just that there are more efficient speed running methods that Cane knew .

I have played Crash 1, but it is the least played game I have in the Crash series as I lost my patience with it and the controls where slightly different to Crash 2... yet I always thought the missing boxes had to be from the bonus levels and yet here they don't care about the bonus levels and still get the gem... so I guess now the bonus areas are just there so you can save your game? So for years I have made my life harder playing this game!

Is the reason for there being a random checkpoint at the end of the final version of sunset vista because of the original beta design of the level?
Probably, the prototype version of sunset vista was much longer--and harder--than the version we have now.

Nope. Bonus level boxes are just for extra fruit and lives. Bonus levels also give you save points, but they are not required for gems.

It might seem strange if you make the comparison so directly.
To be fair, most of the employees at Naughty Dog in the late 90s left long before TLOU was made. Also, there were only about 8 people involved in making Crash 1.
Why it said"and kill the aninals" when reading the donations?
Games Done Quick traditionally ended with Super Metroid back then, and in that game the planet you’re on explodes at the end and you must escape. There are some animals that helped Samus learn moves earlier in the game, and in that escape level they’re trapped in a side screen, if you free them they manage to escape the planet with you, but going to that screen and saving them takes a few seconds, which speed runners really care about. So there was a donation war set up to either take a few seconds and save the animals, or skip that and beat the game faster, jokingly phrased as “save the frames, kill the animals”, and whichever option got more donations is what the runner would do. Since it’s the finale of the event, it got a lot of attention, even early on, days before Super Metroid even happened the donations would start coming in to decide whether to save the animals or not.
I think the event staff realized a couple years ago it was a little off putting to newcomers how much this was talked about, and they stopped ending the event with Super Metroid haha

It's pretty uncommon for people to run the beta version, but I know that Cane did Stormy Ascent in his Any% at AGDQ 14.
