Interesting question. I think that would only save a few ounces. If you are counting that close...for what is worth, the carry sack is 1.2 ounces, so I guess you could skip that and use a small piece of paracord to tie around and stuff it in the side of your backpack. The shock-cords are pretty nice to have to snap it together.
