  • In this video I finally conduct the Maiden flight of the Great Planes Ultra Sport 1000 Kit build. This aircraft is powered by a Saito FG21 4 Stroke gas 20:1 gas/oil mix spinning a APC 16x8 prop roughly around 8000RPM. Also in this video I provide information on my Sponsor RTL Fasteners and provide my viewers a 25% promo code for orders of $25 or more. A successful maiden flight! Beautiful color scheme, great job 👏!
    Looks fast enough, guess it’s a perfect engine combo for a sports plane, as you’ve said! Cheers from Munich🍺, Sven

      I just tested the APC15X8 prop today and I think that prop engine combo is a perfect match.

    Actually got a big fastener kit from them a few weeks ago definitely a nice assortment to solve the 25 trips to the store during building issue ....I have a New Old Stock 90/120 super sportster from Great Planes in the Yellow and White collectors addition still in the box nice to see about what it would look like once built

    Ok here’s the deal started building and flying back in the 1970s. Quit around 1999 was about 3/4 the way though a Ohio r/c 1/4 scale cap 232. Just decided to finish it! Almost ready to cover it. I’ve forgotten more than I remember! Watching your videos has inspired me greatly! Learning a lot from your videos (THANKS) ! I’ll be asking some newbie questions as I’m just 64 years young! Again thanks a million! KEM

      @@BayonasRCWorld quick question the plans don’t call for glassing the center section. I went ahead and glassed the top center which doesn’t show. What’s your thoughts on the bottom side center?

    • @BayonasRCWorld
      @BayonasRCWorld  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@kemsmith3420 glassing the wing center was the normal for most of the older kits of the 80's and 90's. Nonetheless it is never a bad thing to glass the wing center top and bottom to add extra strength. When done right you can minimize the glass from showing through your covering. In most cases the bottom of the wing has a wing bolt plate and some leading edge belly pan trimming that also helps to hide the glass under the covering scheme. Really it is your call if you feel that your wing really needs glassing of the center section top or bottom.

    Another outstanding video, brother! Like yours, I have that same engine and radio in my TF 182 as well and am very satisfied with that setup. It really is a great engine if you don’t fiddle with it too much. Those Ultra Sports are some of the best airplanes Great Planes ever developed. Even though they’re hard to find now and pretty pricey, I’m gonna grab one too. Fun to fly! Keep those videos coming buddy! Happy flying!

      Thanks a bunch brother. Yes I agree that the Saito FG21 is a excellent engine, and once properly broken in and tuned it will perform and is definitely reliable.

    I also have a us1000 and was under impressed with the flight response , I flew it around six times and put it up on my shelf.
    It’s a very pretty airplane, just not snappy , nice flying , cheers

    • @BayonasRCWorld
      @BayonasRCWorld  ปีที่แล้ว

      You can make it snappy! During the build if you beveled the ailerons more than what the plans stated to give more deflection the plane would come alive during snap rolls etc.. I built the plane as per instructions only because the plane brings back memories of the good old days. If I want a 3D plane I would look into more update models exactly for 3D. This plane for me is for nostalgic reasons.

    Nice one! Being such an outstanding builder, do you ever have an unsuccessful maiden?
    😃

    • @BayonasRCWorld
      @BayonasRCWorld  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Come to think of it I don't recall ever having a maiden go wrong. It Normally happens down the line when something bad happens. When I start really getting comfortable with the plane and start being more gutsy is when things happen. Not all the time! I am not exempt from crashes or oops moments hehehehehehehe.
