Forspoken seems to be a Japanese take on western dev games. The reason many people love JRPGs is because they're not the same copy pasted open world with the damn towers. And I think it bleeds over into other aspects as well, like the "hello fellow kids vibes" people talk about. Now i don't think it's as bad as people say, but you can definitely see the westernization that luminous put into FF15 and Forspoken.
You can absolutely see it. These games definitely tried to adopt standards from the west, but given their protracted development time, and the fact that random systems seem far more developed than others- I can’t help but wonder if some of these western standards were adopted late in the dev cycle. I’m not sure. Thank you for watching!
Sup! Like you I too was able to see through Frey's inner details that a lot of people refused to acknowledge, I honestly see my life through and love her for her and how she's not immediately being the run-of-the-mill protagonist. And with your analysis you helped me to see more as to why it is still hard to love the game regardless of it's good values. The approach in its development truly could have been made better. Even so, I could imagine that there were other games that had just as many pot holes and were still loved or didn't get as much onslaught as this one. We had known games to be mid-tier at best and still got the pass. So I am convinced that this game's failures are (also) due to critics being too insensitive and too impatient for their own damn good. That they are nit-picking flaws to hyperbolic proportions. And those forspoken words compelled more folks to not play it. In essence, "T'was cancel culture that killed the beast." Mark my words, this is going to be one of the causes to completely eviscerate the heart & soul in the gaming industry, if we're not careful with our assessments.
Yeah, I agree with you on a lot of that. Frey was interesting and well acted in parts, but there were some stumbles along the way. People just made sure to highlight the more questionable lines and make them the focus of their critiques. That’s fine, I get it, but a lot of it seems like it’s just meme territory and people are just dogpiling onto the game because it is the new thing to talk shit about. I liked this game, but parts of the design were just a bit too bloated to live up to its potential. I don’t mind a game that is rough around the edges at all. With my favorite game being Drakengard 3. I recognize that sometimes there are good ideas and interesting things to see in even art that is rough, unfinished, or in some cases broken. I think as time goes on, you’ll see people be more charitable towards this game (especially as the price goes down) We will see. Thanks for watching!
Thanks for the summary of the game. I didn't know much about this game so this was informative. Kinda looks like Horizon Zero Dawn meets Narnia.
