idk if anyone mentioned this on your patreon, but one really cool thing from the first episode is that joel and sarah avoided becoming infected multiple times. the fungus got into the flour and sugar supply, so they could have been infected had they actually had pancakes like sarah had planned, ate the biscuits and cookies the neighbour had offered, or from the cake had joel not forgotten about it. i just love the detail in this show, and i’m so happy you’ve watched it!!
Such a good detail. And the Atkens diet is a low carb diet so that means no carbs or sugar. And also why Ellie is the only one that can eat sandwiches because she’s immune to the bread.
@@ryanmasciello6494 And here is my question about that sandwich: Where did she get a sandwich if nobody has been able to eat bread for the past 20 years? Why would anyone grow wheat, make flour and bake bread if no one on Earth can eat it? That bread certainly isn't twenty years old.
@@testfire3000 My question is how is she able to eat a chicken sandwich with zero refrigeration? It's just been sitting in her backpack since she got it, over night, and however long she munched on it. Can chicken be salted like other meats and preserved?
Just to be clear, the fungus doesn't just grow in people. It grows in the ground as well. It's the fungus in the ground that can transfer information along all the connected fungi. To make u fall in love with a daughter in 20 mins, and to tell the love story of a couple in only 1 episode… I’ve never seen storytelling this well done before. Some of the best writing in television I’ve ever watched. Masterful 👌🏾. Great reaction guys!
In the video game, the daughter dying hits just a bit harder because you get to play as her for a while before everything goes to s*it. You see a birthday card that she forgot to give her dad say: "Congratulations! You're not a fossil (yet) Dear dad, Let's see...you're never around, you hate the music I'm into, you practically despise the movies I like, and yet somehow you still manage to be the best dad every year. It really hits when you're trying to run from the infected but you're slow because you're holding you're daughter, only to have her die a few agonizing minutes later thinking: They were so close😢. The love story is different than in the show and offers a different dynamic and perspective, but the way it was done in the show was great.

I know it get's overshadowed by the amazing Bill and Frank episode. But the episode with Tess and her dying is one of my favorites. The summation of their relationship in just their few glances at the ends and how he realised he loved her in his way and that the only way he could show it was by looking after Ellie. The acting was off the charts. The fear in her eyes, the not wanting to die but knowing she had to and her will slowly fading with the kiss with the infected as it took over her mind all told through pretty entirely through her eyes. One of my favorite things that the showrunner said is that when Joel went to the bedroom, it was like the wind wouldn't let him in. Like some force in the natural world doesn't want that room disturbed. As if a love that pure needs to be preserved.
6:57 in the game Joel explains that's what most people did, until supplies began to dwindle and then neighbor turned on neighbor. I believe he said "once the food ran out then you got to see what people were truly capable of."
I was 19 in 2003 and didn't have a cell phone. I am a big fan of The Last of Us, video games, and the HBO series. Fun fact. Merle Dandridge, who plays Marlene in The Last of Us HBO series, has also portrayed the character in The Last of Us game. Pedro Pascal and Bella Ramsey were the perfect choices to portray Joel and Ellie in The Last of Us TV series.
The lovestory with these guys didn't felt weird. In my opinion this is often the case with homosexual lovestories. But this one felt real and authentic.❤
@@nikkixo6334 Exactly. It didnt feel forced, nor "gay for the sake of gay". It felt real, well written and relatable. Acting and cinematography was on point too.
@@RoxxSerm I think that's my favorite part, it didn't feel forced and they felt like real human beings who just happen to be gay and not stereotypes where being gay is somehow a whole ass personality
@@kuivia This right here! I'm not homophobic in the slightest, but I do get very annoyed when I see blatantly forced gay relationships or storylines in movies/shows nowadays. I think this episode proved that people don't actually hate gay people, they just hate it when it's forced.
Just so you know the Bill and Frank stuff was changed from the game and reworked for the show and god dam it worked really well it’s the best episode of the show in my opinion.
The reason that the infected were signaled when Tes died is because when the infected woke up he broke the vine that was holding on to his hand and the other infected felt it, that is why no infected came when Ellie killed the infected in the gas station because that infected wasn't connected to the Cordyceps (the fungus that you see growing out of them) that's why they were also being careful not to step on it when exploring the museum.
Bill & Frank was such a crazy side story compared to the game. No one was ready for that, a really great adaptation story. Episode 3 & 8 are the best ones!!!
Druckman said that's how he would have written that part of the game if he had make it today. Video game Bill is a pessimistic warning to Joel. TV show Bill brings a more positive message
Y'all misunderstand the whole "they're all connected" thing. It's not that ALL infected are connected at all times. It's the active and alive fungal vines that are everywhere and if THAT is disturbed while connected to someone, THEN other infected will know.
This show does the game justice AND is brilliant when it takes creative freedom. This episode is one of the best of all time in televison in my opinion. Really shows that love is love and that it does not matter betweem whom it is felt. The song towards their end really got me on the edge of it but the "You were my purpose"-line finished me.
Episode 3 was so amazing. Whether having played the game or not, or whether lgbt or not it is just written so well as a nice break from the pace set up in episodes 1 and 2 before diving into the rest. Great stuff.
Ep. 3 was one of my favorites if not my overall favorite. It showed you can still flourish and be happy in a SHTF world. And it was just done so beautifully. In an upcoming ep, there's an old Native-American couple who are basically the same way -- just living their best lives alone in a cabin.
Thanks you two for doing a great review of these episodes. I'm old enough to remember the airing of the last episode of M.A.S.H. which at the time was considered the greatest episode in television history. But I can say as someone in his early 50's episode three "Long, Long Time" was so well crafted and better. Setting down in such a chaotic world this beautiful relationship that was real. The episode worked because it showed us the truth that even if a apocalypse happens, personal relations continue and blossom in some cases. And it broke me emotionally for a couple of days after honestly. So again, thank you for the review.
33:40 The reason the ones within the museum didn't alert the horde was because they weren't linked together through the spores and fungus. The other ones were connected because there were literal tendrils of fungus running throughout them, so they were physically linked. It's not a psychological thing, it's a physical connection like a web. Also, possible minor game spoilers ahead regarding Tess's death so don't read if you plan on playing: I personally think they really did Tess dirty with her death in the show versus the game. Don't get me wrong, I LOVE the show, but in the game, she died taking out several FEDRA soldiers to protect Ellie and Joel as they escaped. The show frustrated me because that ending wasn't the badass Tess I know from the games, and taking out infected doesn't have *nearly* the impact that taking out live people who are coming after you for personal, conscious reasons does. There will always be more infected. Fighting humans is much harder sometimes. That's one of the only very few gripes I have with the show adaptation.
Oh my god! This was probably my favourite reaction to ep3! You were so genuine, kind, and amazing! I can't wait for your next react to TLoU! Thank you so much for this 💜
Vince in the beginning talking about how he’d only live in the apocalypse for one reason and that was Shashana, and then resonating so well and loving the Bill and Frank episode makes sense. Like Bill, Vince has his purpose.
I'm so glad you guys are watching this. I knew Shoshona was going to be wrecked by "Long, Long Time." It's quite easily my favorite episode of TV ever. I've etched it over a dozen times and I have yet to not cry uncontrollably. I can't wait for you to watch the rest of the series.
@@jbw3624i dont think Abbie is that much of an interesting/pivotal character, and the game shifted the focus on her relatively simple story/motivations for too many hours. Hours in which i would have prefered to visit flashbacks about former characters or current time happenings around and about Ellie.
@@RoxxSerm I can understand the flashback thing and certain Abby moments being too long but I gotta disagree with your opinion on her character. I think Abby is a great character and her story/motives are meant to be simple. I won’t spoil it for the reactors but what happened happened and she simply wanted to right that wrong. She was vengeful. Her story was never meant to be complicated, Ellie and Joel story is the complicated one.
Just in case no one has mentioned it Bill and Franks story was made much more wholesome in the show than it was in the game. In the game Joel meets Bill who lives by himself in the town. He only alludes to having a huge fight with Frank and him leaving. Later you find Frank’s body, he having hung himself before he could even leave town since he got bit. He leaves Bill a note that still has some grudge left over and although you can tell Bill is very upset he just says “well to hell with you!” After he reads the note. I actually really like that in the show we instead get to see a beautiful loving relationship with a happy ending
welpp again, the bill and frank ep made me cry againn... ALSO, the people saying they don't like the casting of J&E just exposing their lack of taste lol
For real, I sprained my ankle 6 years ago snowboarding and every now and again I’ll tweak it wrong and I’m pretty much down for a day when it happens lol
This was filmed in Alberta Canada. It's gorgeous if you get a chance to visit. Episode 2 was in Edmonton and I believe the rest was Calgary and Jasper/Banff
Episode three is the best show episode I have seen, ever. Brilliant writing, masterful acting. They tell such a big story with rather few, but well selected, scenes.
Staying home and hiding probably wouldn’t have worked for Sarah, Joel, and Tommy. If they had survived the initial infected coming through, which they probably would have, the army would have come in, just it did in Bill’s town. They would have forced Joel, Sarah, and Tommy to go the nearest QZ. If there was no room for them, they would have executed them, just like they did with Bill’s town and the pile of bodies we saw. The only reason Bill wasn’t taken away to a QZ is because he hid in his secret bunker so the army couldn’t find him and force him out.
Stepping on patches of cordyceps will alert the fungi, not killing them. Tess explained tendrils under the ground or on the ground. You step on a tendril or a patch, they will feel something and go to that area.
The doctor's monologue during the beginning of episode 2 is still my favorite moment of this series. It fully embraces the grim tone and reality of the situation while keeping the human emotional response in play. The doctor looking like shes going to start crying, while speaking about the only safer bet, is such a beautiful performance.
Considering the "kill the gays" trope, Bill and Frank had the best life they could have. With all the possible ways a person can die in this world, they lived mostly safe and happy and went out on their terms. Their's was a great love story.
“Your watch is Broken”. Right out of the game. THAG line hits hard. As in the watch his daughter gave him it’s like his life. The world and time stopped since the day she passed as the watch probably did. And the new little girl in his life noticed.
Bill and Frank episode is so beautiful! I have made multiple of my friends/family watch that episode and they loved the episode and cried at the end!!! It’s my second favorite episode of the show. My first favorite episode is the episode with Henry and Sam
I've seen episode three (no exaggeration or hyperbole) over 40 times at this point, and I haven't cried harder than watching Shoshonna's reaction to Bill & Frank's "last dinner." Thank you both!!
Delighted at how much you two enjoyed episode 3 in particular. This tv series has made me weep during at least half the eps. & I'm okay with that. It's a high quality show that stands on its own-haven't played the game. Love season 1, irresistibly well-made (the thoughtful and understated dialog, the lighting, the music, the performances, etc.) with such beauty & such pain.
their reaction at that moment 24:34 was very good, in fact Ellie was a young woman with a great sense of humor, you will still die laughing at her joke book hahahaha
This game is what I absolutely love about story driven games. When my wife and I played this game it was transformative of an experience and to see how well they did the opening sequence that leads to his daughter dying deserves praise. They really did this game justice and kept it as close to the game's story as they could.
Fungus does this in real life but only to insects like ants and the game is not decision based its a third person horror survival game and the fungus is worst in the game because the fungus spores are in the air
I haven't seen a comment talk about it, but for the show they had the underground network of cordyceps because they didn't want to have the actors wearing gas masks, as the game had places full of spores that could lead to being infected, so they added the network of cordyceps that would alert the infected when stepped on or disturbed (like when the dead infected touched the patch, not when it was killed)
Episode 3 of this series is seriously one of the best episodes in any show ever. It's crazy. I hope you guys play the games [Part 1 & 2] one day, you guys will love it! Looking forward to the next reactions of this show :)
1:58 My husband STILL has a Jansport backpack from back in the late 90's still in great shape! 35:17 my son LOVES Life is Strange and that's one of his favorite games right now.
A little late for the comment, but the Cordyceps fungus takes over the nervous system and parts of the brain controlling movement. Essentially, the host would be living in their flesh shell while the fungus controlled them. A horrible way to go, and imo, the worst of the "zombie" infections.
someone has probably already told you but the last of us isn’t a decision based game, it has a set story! It’s amazing. One of my favorite games of all time, and it had a sequel come out in 2020 that is amazing as well. The show really did the game justice and i can’t wait for season 2! (btw life is strange is also one of my favorite games and I definitely also recommend playing the last of us after you watch the show)
the fungus arent connected at all times only sometimes in ceryain areas when they're laid on the ground. theres an underground fungus network called a mycelium and thays cant connect different parts of the fungus colony. u never know which u could or even stepping on some on the ground can alert colony members to your location

I think I had my first one around 2003, but I remember that texting wasn't a thing yet & they were all flip phones lol
Ellie - bad choice of actress.
@@44-zo3gt we knows why you're pulling that crap.😂
@@44-zo3gt Why?
I was 12 lol
Bill and Frank was probably one of the best and most emotional tv episodes i ever saw! And the fact it was about a gay couple it makes it even better!
Yeah like one of the few sweet representations of gay romance
The only show that could ever make me cry at a hole in the ground.
3, 6 and 8 are my favorite ones.
Druckman said that's how he would have written that part of the game if he had make it today. Video game Bill is a pessimistic warning to Joel. TV show Bill brings a more positive message
"He fungus kissed her" 🤢😂😂😂
This show is an emotional rollercoaster. Highly recommend playing the games if you two own a PlayStation.
Where can I watch
Y'all misunderstand the whole "they're all connected" thing. It's not that ALL infected are connected at all times. It's the active and alive fungal vines that are everywhere and if THAT is disturbed while connected to someone, THEN other infected will know.
I'll NEVER forget how swollen and disgustingly red my face was after sobbing my eyes out to episode 3 last year...
4 years of being alone...no, dude was alone his whole life.
Well put.
I mean there was still life around him. Tv, phones, other prepers etc. 4 years of 0 human contact isnt the same as being a loner in a society.
35:34 the way they made the same face 😂
This is hilarious, love it. Didnt recognize when i watched. That couple is the perfect mix.
Ep. 3 was one of my favorites if not my overall favorite. It showed you can still flourish and be happy in a SHTF world. And it was just done so beautifully. In an upcoming ep, there's an old Native-American couple who are basically the same way -- just living their best lives alone in a cabin.
Literally my favorite episode of television is episode 3 I cry every time. So glad you all liked it
This show is insane. Acting is superb. Casting on point
I will never not cry when I see the bill and Frank episode
Bella Ramsey, who plays Ellie, was also in Game of Thrones, Lyanna Mormont
She's kid
She was around 10 years old when we first met her in season 6 and she was already badass
Vince: “She ain’t got no seasoning on there” 🤣😂🤣😂😂😂😂😂 Shoshona face!
That was the blackest shit I’ve ever heard him say
33:40 The reason the ones within the museum didn't alert the horde was because they weren't linked together through the spores and fungus. The other ones were connected because there were literal tendrils of fungus running throughout them, so they were physically linked. It's not a psychological thing, it's a physical connection like a web.
Also, possible minor game spoilers ahead regarding Tess's death so don't read if you plan on playing:
I personally think they really did Tess dirty with her death in the show versus the game.
I have never clicked on anything so fast in my life! I am so excited. You guys are amazing
Oh my god! This was probably my favourite reaction to ep3! You were so genuine, kind, and amazing! I can't wait for your next react to TLoU! Thank you so much for this 💜
Having played the game and watched this show… I cannot wait for y’all’s reaction to all of this season and for whenever season 2 comes out 😂
Vince in the beginning talking about how he’d only live in the apocalypse for one reason and that was Shashana, and then resonating so well and loving the Bill and Frank episode makes sense. Like Bill, Vince has his purpose.
The flashing green light in the first episode was transformers blowing.
Yea lots of people don’t understand that they blow up usually in green colors
I really love watching your guys’ reactions, you’re a great couple with big hearts. 👍
Episode 3 is one of the best, if not *the* best, episodes of television ever
I'm so glad you guys are watching this. I knew Shoshona was going to be wrecked by "Long, Long Time." It's quite easily my favorite episode of TV ever. I've etched it over a dozen times and I have yet to not cry uncontrollably. I can't wait for you to watch the rest of the series.
33:49 in the museum they were several floors up, so no fungus.
I gotta praise whoever edited this. It feels so complete.
Nico Parker was perfect as Sarah!
This is the first time watchin u guys. U 2 are so cute and loved your reaction. Will def be checking out more from u two!!
If you have a playstation, I strongly urge you to play TLOU 1, the DLC and then 2. This universe is amazing, I’ll never stop talking about it.
I wish i could forget 2. Didnt like it, and not for the reasons most think i didnt like it for
They haven't Playstation 😂
Because they need money
@@RoxxSermWhy didn't you like it?
Bruhh The realest series you'll ever watch ❤❤
welpp again, the bill and frank ep made me cry againn... ALSO, the people saying they don't like the casting of J&E just exposing their lack of taste lol
You two seem so sweet together :) hope you are well
I love that the girl from the watch shop speaks Arabic it’s my first language so I enjoyed that
Never thought I’d hear “dead ass dies” in one sentence but…I kinda like it lol
The ankle injury comment is so real. I’m a swimmer and I hurt my ankle 2 seasons ago and it still bothers me sometimes
For real, I sprained my ankle 6 years ago snowboarding and every now and again I’ll tweak it wrong and I’m pretty much down for a day when it happens lol
I love this show and i am really glad you are reacting to it
This was filmed in Alberta Canada.
Acting is amazing
Loved how genuine you two are and can't wait for the next video 🩷
Really looking forward to you two watching more of the series
“Your watch is Broken”. Right out of the game. THAG line hits hard. As in the watch his daughter gave him it’s like his life. The world and time stopped since the day she passed as the watch probably did. And the new little girl in his life noticed.
One of my favorite games of all time, this show is AMAZING, I'm super stoked to watch the rest of your reactions! Its a brutal and unforgiving journey
Bill and Frank episode is so beautiful! I have made multiple of my friends/family watch that episode and they loved the episode and cried at the end!!! It’s my second favorite episode of the show. My first favorite episode is the episode with Henry and Sam
You're right Vince btw...it's Fungi
The Bill & Frank story always makes me tear up too 🥲 such a great episode
Thanks so much, Shoshana and Vince! 🧟♀ Episode 3 is one of the best hours of tv I've ever seen in my entire 57 years of life. 💞
I've seen episode three (no exaggeration or hyperbole) over 40 times at this point, and I haven't cried harder than watching Shoshonna's reaction to Bill & Frank's "last dinner." Thank you both!!
You have seen the cat clock in Back To The Future if i m not wrong (the first movie) XD
As a gamer you guys are gonna cry alot for this series and I can't wait you two watch the season 2 to this
Bill and frank ❤❤❤ still my favorite episode maybe of all shows ever. So beautiful!
Hope you two are having an great and awesome day ❤
There are few beautiful moment's these days, s1 e3 was one, thank you Both for the reaction, keep e'm coming, kind regards Chris UK
6:26 it was airborne in the game via spores but they sadly got rid of the spores in the show
This game is what I absolutely love about story driven games. When my wife and I played this game it was transformative of an experience and to see how well they did the opening sequence that leads to his daughter dying deserves praise. They really did this game justice and kept it as close to the game's story as they could.
I LOVE the CANADIAN actors in this show…. Because it was filmed in Alberta Canada 🇨🇦
Fuckin eh
Fungus does this in real life but only to insects like ants and the game is not decision based its a third person horror survival game and the fungus is worst in the game because the fungus spores are in the air
You guys rocked it!!!!!! Subscribed!!!!!!!! 3 def my favorite episode
Fungi is actually the plural, but am liking your video. Think i'm subscribing.
I’m watching this video now after playing tlou like a million times and the Sarah death still got me teary eyed
Great video guys! Looking forward to following this journey. Episode 3 was definitely great
The bill n Frank episode broke me 😢
A little late for the comment, but the Cordyceps fungus takes over the nervous system and parts of the brain controlling movement.
(btw life is strange is also one of my favorite games and I definitely also recommend playing the last of us after you watch the show)
I truly enjoyed your reaction and discussion at the end. Like Frank and Bill, you are two beautiful people.
I'm 39 and I still haven't found my Frank...wish I could. So lonely.
the fungus arent connected at all times only sometimes in ceryain areas when they're laid on the ground. theres an underground fungus network called a mycelium and thays cant connect different parts of the fungus colony. u never know which u could or even stepping on some on the ground can alert colony members to your location
1:00:37 it’s really so wonderful that you two can relate in such a way to the love story of these characters ❤❤❤
This is the most emotional show like really breaks my heart
