Fantastic on all accounts! Great info on the 1st Campground without stating how you must have really felt to your audience. Calm yet displeased with your experience. You are a Master Videographer! Thank you for all this documentation of this beautiful region. Perfect mix of historical and current sites, experience and viewpoints. Once again we have pinned this on our plan based on your documentation as a guide. Unparalleled! Thank you.❤

Thank you as always!! We try to remain focused on the positive in each episode and avoid the negative, so it was a difficult decision on how to approach this campground experience. But we also felt a duty to our viewers who might be considering a visit to CBI to let them know how things went there for us. The folks at Waves End showed us that one bad apple can't spoil the whole basket.

Just wanted to add my two cents on this video, we live in the Cape Breton area and have had a very similar experience with Hideaway Campground. A couple of years ago we booked a week at this campground so we could do some of the hikes in the area. I am familiar with this area, so when I booked and was told we would be backed in on the cliff, I assumed it would be up top over looking the water, but I was wrong. When we arrived they pointed out our site which was in the same area that you were placed(which was a gravel pit, no grass at all) and we found out that the cliff was actually a gravel bank, so we questioned if they had another site. They did not want to help us and didn't want us looking around for a better site, so we ended up getting into a big argument and eventually leaving. This is a beautiful spot but the owners are horrible people and impossible to deal with. Because we are from the area we would recommend the following campsites if you ever come back this way: 1. AVOCA BIRCHES in Little River (Great location as a home base to explore Cape Breton and SAM & Nancy are great hosts) 2. WAVES END in Cheticamp( Great spot on the north side of the island and the owners are great as well) 3. BADDECK CABOT TRAIL CAMPGROUND in Baddeck( Very nice campsite central Cape Breton and the owners are great to deal with) 4. MACLEODS Campground in Dunvegan (One of the most scenic beach/sunset views on the island and great to deal with). We really enjoyed this video and thank you for your honest opinion, will definitely subscribe to your channel

That Skyline trail looks fantastic! What a view!
And as always, love the history. It’s amazing how they can recreate a whole town! Reminds me of when we visited Williamsburg VA. Oh wow! Was that tatting, making lace? That was complicated!

Thanks Penny! Zoe is still a very happy girl who has adjusted rather well to not being able to see anymore. That warms my heart, too.
There's a reason Skyline is so popular. That's kind of a bummer, and it would've been great if the trail had continued further out onto the headlands where it looks like it once did, but the views are absolutely stunning and well worth the investment in time and effort.
I think that tatting is what she called it. I would just be inventing new knots. 😆

Very nice video, Marc, and very professionally done. We have travelled through Cape Breton island many times, but unfortunately always straight through via the TCH, as we have always been headed to or coming from the Newfoundland Ferry terminal in North Sydney. I was born and raised in Newfoundland but have spent most of my adult life in Ontario, so any road trip to my roots take me through this beautiful place. I hope one day to get off the highway route and discover the treats to be found on the Cabot Trail. Actually, we planned to do just that on our return trip this past summer, but the weather sabotaged that plan. It was raining heavily from the time we left the ferry until we crossed the border in Ontario. Next time, hopefully, we will get some footage for our new YT Channel "Cooze Adventures". In the meantime, we'll be inspired by yours. Thanks, Kevin

We'll certainly check out your channel, Kevin! And definitely find a way to spend a few days on Cape Breton Island to and from Newfoundland, which I wish we had the time and resources to visit this season. It was frustrating to leave Newfoundland on the table when we were so close this season, especially when we could've made a small detour to St. Pierre to gain bragging rights that we brought our RV to "France". 😁

Fabulous adventure, Marc. Having visited Scotland, the whole area is reminiscent of North Scotland and the Hebrides.
Really lovely views from the highlands and that road would be great to travel on a motorbike.
Too bad you didn't have that canon when you left Dumfey's. He evidently didn't want you there for some reason. Great example of a Scottish Canadian demon.

Did you end up driving around the whole Cabot Trail? That would be great fun on account of the constant incredible views.

Baddeck (locally pronounced 'Be-deck" as opposed to 'Bad-eck) is actually quite a distance from the eastern shore line of Cape Breton island. If you'd taken the old route from Louisbourg (which I wouldn't recommend with a trailer that large so I'm glad you didn't), you would have indeed visited the eastern side of the island - you missed some gems along that route, but unfortunately you can't see 'em all. Sorry you experienced a less than hospitable owner up in Dingwall.

    • @GrandAdventure
      @GrandAdventure  4 หลายเดือนก่อน

Thank you. And I can understand the geographic semantics on what qualifies as the "eastern side" of the island. I was more referring to the fact that there's little east of Baddeck other than water. 😁but you're clearly correct, it's pretty much at the island's dead center. We appreciate you watching! And that eastern route (presumably the road down through Fourchu) looks fascinating. Some other time for that one.

Can't believe that guy stole your money. Remind me to never stay there or recommend them. I hope he will send your money back. Just not right. Not the Cape Breton way

In all fairness, Arlene, they didn't steal our money. I was fully aware that our camping fee was non-refundable, and didn't request a refund. Instead we chose to simply leave rather than deal with his behavior for an entire week.

We had exactly one week to get out to see the island, film, and work a 40-hour work week for the day job, reduced to six days after losing a full day at the first campground. There's only so much one can do.
