Namibia will not give you a 6 months visa, and it's a hard task getting a 12 months work permit. You can work for 10 years and still won't get a residence permit. America is right.
They did this to me. I paid for a visa at the U.S embassy in South Africa and got denied, had to reapply, but got a 10 year visa. This visa system discriminates non Western countries.

This isnt new Phil, i am from Trinidad. In order to assure that u obtain a travel visa ( and rightfully so) is to show that you have ties to your home country ( permanent job, house, savings). This shows that you only interested in travelling to the US for a vacation. And yes, its stated that its non-refundable.

VFS did that to me in South Africa by deliberately processing the visa extension AFTER my 90 days on my tourist visa was up when i had to legal leave or take a risk in waiting in the country illegally for it. 6 weeks after I had to leave, they notified me it was processed...I cursed their sh!t out and never picked up the visa at the VFS office because I have not been back to the country since.
The US Embassy does same in Nigeria and other African Countries. They make you pay but dont give you the visas. There ought to be a refund if no visas are given....

This is standard policy. The fee is non-refundable, and it is marked on the visa application form as such. I think the lady probably overlooked that section in error, or she was overly excited about the pending interview and trip to the USA.

Brother Phil, sorry to tell you but it doesn't work like that with that. You have to understand how visa system work when you applied for it. When you go for an interview at an embassy, those people don't even make eye contact with you weather they approved your visa or not. They don't have any other convocation with you other than questions about your interest in going to their country and for the information they requested on paper. If denied, that's it, if approved they told you when to go and get your book with the visa and that's about it. No other conversations. This idea that they told you things in that embassy is not correct. Ask any person that goes through that process. The only people they can manipulate are those of refugees that they will sit in some room and questions. Embassy, you go to a window that separates you from them securely.
The USA now had the biggest embassy in Africa, guess where it is? Drum roll. In Zimbabwe 😢 A country they have sanctions on How does that make sense. The balance to be paid when picking up the approved visa. The US embassy/consulate is in possession of the foreign passport; incentive to retrieve the passport. I queried my son who works for the US government, why a C-1, transit visa is so expensive (184 USD) to sit in a US airport, waiting for a connecting flight to another foreign territory. He told me it was the calculated labor cost to process visa request.

@mentuhotepii2641 I have often thought of this. A basic "tourist visa" (B-1) is 184 USD to submit the application. X amount to submit the application. The balance to be paid when picking up the approved visa. The US embassy/consulate is in possession of the foreign passport; incentive to retrieve the passport. I queried my son who works for the US government, why a C-1, transit visa is so expensive (184 USD) to sit in a US airport, waiting for a connecting flight to another foreign territory. He told me it was the calculated labor cost to process visa request.
