Nigerians also lost their visa free status to the UK after the Babangida regime led a boycott of the commonwealth games. Nigeria boycotted the 1986 Commonwealth Games in Edinburgh, Scotland in response to Britain's refusal to support economic sanctions against South Africa's apartheid government. The boycott was a direct result of this refusal, and also as a protest against allowing the white South African runner Zola Budd to compete, Britain punished Nigeria for it later that year with visa sanctions by cancelling Nigerian's visa free status, even though they claimed it was being cancelled for a different reason.

@babacargueye5343 That’s not entirely accurate, as the factors are numerous and complex. These include, but are not limited to, the South African liberation government’s failure to fulfill the expectations of a new nation, as well as the damaging criminal activities of some Nigerians after initially being warmly welcomed by locals. Both nations need a period of self-reflection and fact-finding to mend their relationship and unlock its true potential.

Not only Nigeria. I met a teacher from Sierra Leoan who paid South Africa tax. Many other African countries contributed as well. Tanzania, Zambia, Botswana, Lesotho, Angola and many other African countries contributed as well. Zambia, Tanzania, Lesotho, Mozambique and Angola have a special place in the hearts of South Africans because of the additional sacrifices the countries made to contribute to changes in South Africa. There were anti Apartheid movements all over the world. The Swedish Prime Minister and Samora Machel paid with their own lives.
The issue is the colonial mindset that has remained in many African countries. "Who is a better Black person to White people?". There will always be differences because the Apartheid wounds have not healed among many Black South Africans. While those who have been freed for many years may not have the anger that still exists within Black South Africans. If White South Africans had their way, they would get rid of Black South Africans and replace them with Africans who don't have as much anger as Black South Africans.
The other issue is the stereotype about Black South Africans. We are told that we are lazy, not educated and unskilled. During Apartheid we entirely depended on ourselves because we did not have government support. When did we become lazy, uneducated and unskilled? The fight is almost about, "who is a better Black person to the White domination?" As a Black South African, I will never stop fighting until my people are completely free?" This may collide with aspirations of those who have had freedom for many years.

This type of assistance was common in the African heartlands and represented our contribution to the liberation movements.

Or is it only political asylums that went to all these countries, and stayed until their given time was over ? SA is the only country in Africa that fought for the return of their political asylums to be repatriated back home to SA. And SACANS never took refuge to those countries. They were dying fighting tooth and nail for all political prisoners, asylums, exilees and for the country of SA. There's a difference

Honestly, it is because of the crime some of our Nigerian brothers are committing in SA today. Those Nigerians who supported SA during apartheid would also be appalled at what some Nigerians are doing in dishonoring their positive legacy.
This SA dislike of todays Nigerian in their country did not come out if thin air.
We need to be honest and acknowledge that even as Nigerians today.
Using yesterday's helper to justify today's drug dealer and criminal just won't do.
We need to be calling them out actually because they have created such a bad reputation which affects those Nigerians who are honest and law abiding.

You have helped them with passports to go and study. Not to go and cause trouble in or for your country, using Nigerias travel documents for nefarious reasons.
Many countries helped ANC members, but majority of black South Africans stayed behind to fight and sacrificed with blood to overthrow the oppressive system. If we ignore and are not going to agree on how we resolve contemporary problems we have that make it difficult to have relations between the two countries then I'll tell you what is going to happen in SA.
ANC will loose power because of its own problems in the next elections to parties that are intolerant to illegal immigration and they will implement what the people want. Maybe ANC must start quantifying how much we owe Nigerians for their contribution, and those countries who can't wait to tell us they gave us monies and assistance so that it can be payed back🤷🏽

The only reason why some African countries disrespect Nigeria now is because of the useless politicians that have turned the country into desert. As soon as our politicians are changed, many people from other African countries would want Nigeria as their homes. It has happened before.

Nope here in SA you are not disrespected because of your politicians, they've never done anything wrong to us. You are disrespected because of the wrong things some of your brothers are doing in SA. We have and are still living with migrant Africans in our townships that keep their lane, interact with locals and don't boast about illegal things they do to us. You have brothers here in academia, in the medical and legal fraternities doing great for themselves.
Clearly your politicians have wronged you, but if you don't find a way to stand up to them so they can change their ways then as a South African how can I consider to visit Nigeria. Staying to fight for your country, will encourage other Africans to respect you and visit your beautiful country. We want to visit Nigeria and Burkina Faso because what the people have been able to achieve there, and what we see them doing lifts our spirit and we want to go and see it with our own eyes

We all know who pits countries against countries in Africa! When African countries learn to kick out their puppet leaders and stand together. Holiday in each others countries. Fly to each others countries without passports. Build and communicate with each other. Be as one. We all know who will move heaven and earth for this not to happen. We have Burkina Faso, Mali and Niger leading the way. I expect other countries to join them. I expect Africa to get a proper leader of their African union. It may not happen in my lifetime. But the dream is still there.

The notion that South Africans don't know their history is an insult and needs to stop. Most African countries helped SA during apartheid, not only Nigeria and we know that. However, nothing you say will beat us into submission to allow these so-called brothers to come here and do as they please as if we don't have laws here. BTW, while they were helping us, we were here facing death everyday of our lives, we never ran away as a whole country and squatered in one country to commit heinous crimes. You're busy lecturing us about a history that we know and don't even deny, we are telling you about the present heinous crimes these people are committing in our country and you want us so much to disregard it, it will never happen.
