Nice job, Hilton! I’d already re-lamped my interior lighting, doing the job last weekend, including the footwells; but your tutorial on the puddle lights has also now given me confidence to tackle those. My ‘Jugular’ (😄) is a 2014 XJ Portfolio, and the lighting is more or less identical to your model of XF. Its footwell lighting employs T10s - aka W5W, or ‘501’ in the UK - in the front, but the (shorter) festoon type in the rear, which a PO had converted to blue LED inserts 😏; not my choice, so they’re now cool-white colour temperature. The front footwell lights are black plastic cups, into which I’ve stuck a square of white self-adhesive label, which improves the lights’ output immensely. I also have a 2004 S-Type 3.0 SE, which was dissolving below the waistline before I lavished a barrow full of dosh on it - another story...

Great video Hilton, I would like to put LED bulbs in my mirrors as it is a very yellowish light, but yours looks great now. Still waiting for the silicone spray to come for the lazy seat belts. Well done Take care, Jeff
Thanks Jeff. Just remember to use canbus bulbs for the exterior mirrors otherwise they won't work. The car won't throw faults, but the bulbs will just flash once when you open the car and not light up.
Thanks for video, very useful, I've just changed my dome lights, they are so much better now. Only issue I had, these LEDs are bit thicker and I struggled to fit footwell lights. I'll do side lights next time, when my dynamic indicators will arrive.

Just a little heads up with regards to possibly why you were missing bulbs. My old XF with the same dome unit developed apparently a common fault where while driving along either the passenger or driver dome light would randomly turn on and off for various lengths of time and there was no way to turn them off. It was fixed under a recall here in the UK where they replaced the whole dome unit. So maybe that car has the same issue , and the previous owner just took the two bulbs out. Thanks Rich. Yes, I have a copy of the recall procedure. Mine aren't doing that, but I'll be keeping an eye on them. If they do randomly come on, I can buy the copper grease from JLR and fix them myself. It's quite easy.
Hi Hilton. Amazing videos! I have a question. When I turn on the ignition my events don’t open. They only open when I push the centre dial of the heating button. Do you know how I get them to automatically open when I press the start button? Thank you.
I'm not quite sure without seeing it happen and what you do to get them open. Post a video on TH-cam and send me a link to that video and also go into your ac settings on the screen for me so I can see what it's set at. There is a setting on the screen to keep them always open or auto, but then your vents would be open and not closed so it's an odd one.
You must go into the settings menu for your car and select the folding mirror to on. You can also manually fold them by pressing both the left and right mirror buttons on the door at the same time.
Looked like a simple mod to the puddle lights but apparently I've bought some canbus T10 leds that aren't ( they blink once ). Seller says they have inline resistor. Also broke the clip getting the light out....
Hey Paul. Sorry to hear about your clip. You can buy those little puddle light fittings on eBay. That's why I usually buy several different led bulbs at a time because when you take stuff apart, you only want to do that once. Try some off Amazon or from your local auto store where can at least return the ones that aren't canbus and say they are.
@@carfanfan At 80 AUD ( eBay) for a replacement lens I decided to try and fix what I had or just glue the lens back in which seems to a popular solution. Can the rear seats be pulled down? If so can you be kindly to put up a video please. I’ve been trying to look for instructions online because I want to come out with a vlog about car camping in my Jaguar XF. Thank you 🙏
JagFan Hilton great ty! I was actually able to figure it today! I have ordered my inflatable car bed as well after measuring everything. I’m excited for it.
Thanks Joe - you can see those on my ambient lighting video. They are easy to get at and see - just pull them out and replace - they are T10 or as some call W5W, but basically wedge bulbs. I replaced mine with blue.
Hi, thank you so much for your films ! I've got one problem with mirrors bulbs (OSRAM W5W canbus) - they only blink and turn off. Any ideas whats the problem ?
@KlasykaGatunku-p5t Definitely a wattage issue. Don't be fooled by canbus advertised led bulbs. They are often not. Canbus led bulbs are supposed to have a built in resistor to fool the car that the bulb is using 12v instead of 1v or less. Try different bulbs and you should solve your problem.
You need to remove the glove box to do that. It's not that difficult. I can't do a video as I don't have the car anymore. But check on the forums they will have a thread on how to perform the removal.
Unfortunately not. The blind spot system is linked to various other modules in the car including the canbus. So it gives and audible warning if you're about to change lanes with a car in the way. It also gives a warning in the instrument display. Best thing is to get a car with it fitted.
Thanks Hilton. I want to change my mirror lights to LED. For the interiors does yours dim from low to bright when you open the door ? I actually like the warm white look for inside the cabin as it feels cozy
Personally I like the warm light too. But since I had to insert new bulbs, I thought I'd update the lights with LED. They do in fact dim when they go off. I wasn't sure they would but strangely they work well. Just remember, the mirror LEDs must be canbus otherwise they won't work properly.
@Jagfan Hilton I have a XF 2016 which comes with a logo in the middle of the windscreen. A blue light is shed on it when I open doors or turn on the overhead lights. But goes as soon as you turn off the engine. Do you if that light should stay on whilst driving during night?
@@carfanfan awesome, thanks for the information. Tried calling a few Jaguar dealers around and they haven’t got a clue. Most of the stuff I’ve learnt about the car is via TH-cam and forums... useless dealerships. The only main skill they have is how to snatch bucks off you... thanks again.
Great video. Did you notice that the LEDs had a slight glow to them when switched off. This happened in my XJ , so I took them out incase they drew on the battery. Or is this normal and ok? Thank you
@arroncambridge5441 Mine didn't do that. I used canbus bulbs even though it wasn't necessary as one won't get a bulb out warning for courtesy lights. They are polarity specific so if you turn the bulb 180 degrees and put it back in the socket it should work. Canbus LED bulbs last longer than the cheaper crappy ones.
My interior lights are not coming on when I open the doors and the middle bulb is not working. The other 2 bulbs in the front and back are working.I tried the press and hold but it does not work. Does this middle bulb control all the interior light functions?
I did a video on replacing the interior bulbs as well as how to fix the random on off of the overhead bulbs. Once you change the center bulb you can do the long touch to set the interior lights. That function won't work with a blown bulb.
I've been away awhile and just come back to pass on congrats that you've finally got the BEST XF - the facelift model! Really good video as always. I changed my interior lights to LEDs a while ago which worked, but I didn't like the cold white light they gave. I'm planning to experiment with putting a thin clear piece of plastic cut to shape in each of the three front lights painted with glass paint to tint a warm pale gold. What do you think - am I barking mad? (as we say in the UK)
Thanks Charles. I had an issue with the central locking a few weeks ago. The negative terminal on the battery was loose. I tightened it real good and all the gremlins went away.
@@charleshunter7562 That's probably why. Disconnecting the battery usually causes the car to throw all kinds of codes. Once you check the battery have all the codes cleared so the convenience module can reset itself. 😉
Hi if you are getting the double bleep when locking change your door latches not to difficult are videos on here about 1 hours work just be careful with the glass Ian JAGMAN
Hi Hilton, I have just recently subscribed to your channel (very informative). I've always driven Audi's (latest was a S5 Sportback), however I am looking to purchase a 2014 xfr-s, what is your experience (or any advice/recommendations) on these vehicles. Any potential flaws to be concerned about
Hey Brendon, you are looking at buying quite a beast. There are two major things to look out for which are basically due to bad maintenance on the previous owner's part - coolant leaks, water pump failing (will squeal while engine is idling) and also super charger bearing failure. Listen to the engine while it's idling just after startup - while the engine is still cold - if there is a gargling sound (sounds like marbles rumbling around inside the front of the engine) then the s/c bearings have failed. If you hear squealing, the water pump has failed. The water pump, spark plugs and supercharger belt must be replaced after 8 years or 100,000 miles so check if this has been done if the car is this age or miles. Check all the coolant hoses - while the engine is running, you will smell the coolant - I know that smell very well from my old XF from a few years ago. It has a unique smell and you will notice if the coolant tank is low on coolant, that's a telltale sign that it's leaking somewhere. Check under the car for any drips (other than a/c condensation). It's actually difficult to tell since it has a huge underbody tray. But after driving, if any oil is accumulating in the tray, it will be dripping from the vent holes in the tray after driving it. Also check the suspension components (multi link front and rear) for any tears in the rubber joints or signs of leaks from the rubber bushings (they are filled with oil and some with grease). While driving, listen for wheel bearing noise from the front - you will also feel the steering will wonder and you might have to keep correcting it. If the steering is sharp and precise, then you don't have any issues there. Other than that, you shouldn't have any other issues with it. They are pretty robust cars.
Yes you can. The overhead console is practically identical to XF and the rear dome light comes loose using the same principle - remove the clear cover then you can remove the fitting.
I was thinking about doing this on mine.... Yep, definitely going to do it now. You commented that you definitely need the canbus in the mirrors, why is that?
I'm not sure why but when I fitted the non canbus bulbs to the mirror which I tried after filming, they flashed once and wouldn't work after that. Only the canbus bulbs seem to work perfectly.
Hello brother, I just bought a 2010 xfr and it has a few minor problems, one of which is the interior coutesy lights do not work by touching them 🥲. They work pretty ok when i open the door it is just when the touch feature isn’t working. Do you have any ideas about this ?
I did a video on how to refurbish them. Go to my channel, and check out my previous videos. The thumbnail has a picture of the interior dome light removed. You will need some copper grease to do the job. I would recommend changing the bulbs out at the same time too. Also, have you held your finger to the center light for 3 seconds? Does the dome light flash? If not, I would change the bulb and do the refurbish I showed in my video. It should solve the issue.
I love your video's and seen them all. Both me (188 cm) and my wife (168 cm) use my XF X250 so; Could you please please please do a video on retro fitting memeory seats?
Just done my Jag today. The footwells was the hardest. Cut both of my thumbs doing so. The only light I haven't replaced was the glove box. I was able to take off the plastic but found it extremely hard to take out the light bulb let alone put in a LED. On top of that I have to keep the door open to get low enough to reach the light which leaves the bulb lit. Do you think theres anyway around this?
When I did my old XF glove box, I replaced the entire fitting with the LED lights one gets for the licence plate lights. But best thing is to unplug the whole fitting from the wire, wait for the bulb to cool and then change it 😉
@@carfanfan thank you 👍 really enjoy your videos. I'm glad you've gone back to the x250, as it all relates to my car. I've always admired how you're just prepared to pull the car to pieces haha I'd be frightened to death.
@@carfanfan okay, good to hear. sadly my xf has that problem. even with the orginal bulbs. maybe it has been same problem on yours with the pervious owner, and thats why he has removed the two side bulbs ? but nice to hear it works like it should.

@KlasykaGatunku-p5t Definitely a wattage issue. Don't be fooled by canbus advertised led bulbs. They are often not. Canbus led bulbs are supposed to have a built in resistor to fool the car that the bulb is using 12v instead of 1v or less. Try different bulbs and you should solve your problem.
thanks very informative. can you do a video on the glove box lamp replacement?
You need to remove the glove box to do that. It's not that difficult. I can't do a video as I don't have the car anymore. But check on the forums they will have a thread on how to perform the removal.
Can I easily upgrade my mirrors to the ones with the blind spot warning light? Because I don't have those
Unfortunately not. The blind spot system is linked to various other modules in the car including the canbus. So it gives and audible warning if you're about to change lanes with a car in the way. It also gives a warning in the instrument display. Best thing is to get a car with it fitted.
Very helpful, thank you.
Hey Mauvin. That's correct. That bulb is part of the interior light suite.
@@mauvinfernandes Any time my friend. Feel free to ask any questions you may have. 😉
And what about the visor lights. I tried to get them out, but I couldn't. They slip off my fingers, I also tried tweezers but I can't.
That's something I overlooked. I sold my XFR a week ago, so now I can't do a video on that :(
My interior lights are not coming on when I open the doors and the middle bulb is not working.
Very useful hilton
Thanks for the video. Very usefull.
LoL, Anthony, it's your car. You should do what makes you happy 😉. No matter what you do, you will have the best car in the world.
Looks awesome, thanks for the help 👍 have you ever had any issues with central locking on your xf? wonder if that could be a possible video?
Thanks Charles. I had an issue with the central locking a few weeks ago. The negative terminal on the battery was loose. I tightened it real good and all the gremlins went away.
@@carfanfan I shall give it a try....I recently disconnected the negative when I done my brakes, Thanks 👍
I just got a 2011 XJL and would like to change my interior bulbs, could I use the same process? thanks
Yes you can. The overhead console is practically identical to XF and the rear dome light comes loose using the same principle - remove the clear cover then you can remove the fitting.
@@carfanfan Thanks I appreciate your quick response.
I really miss watching your Jaguar XF vids. Buy another XF Hilton.
It's a shame Jaguar don't fit LED bulbs as standard.
@@carfanfan Thanks for the explanation. I changed the bulbs to LED's on my MKIV Supra, the orange bulb glow is horrid.
I think the old lights look better with beige interior
nice video, very helpful
Do you know how to replace the light inside the start stop button
It would be easier to get one off eBay and just replace it. You'd have to remove the center console but that's not too difficult
I love your video's and seen them all. Both me (188 cm) and my wife (168 cm) use my XF X250 so; Could you please please please do a video on retro fitting memeory seats?
Thanks Adrianus. Doesn't your XF have memory seats? I haven't seen one yet without them.
But best thing is to unplug the whole fitting from the wire, wait for the bulb to cool and then change it 😉
Hey i replaced my interior bulbs with leds and my remote stopped working
It sounds like a coincidence. Try replacing your remote battery
JagFan Hilton it is a brand new battery but as soon as i take them out or the lights go off then the remote works again
Are they all t10 and is there a specific wattage to buy?
No specific wattage. A TWO but the exterior mirror bulbs must be canbus otherwise they will not work.
@@carfanfan thank you 👍 really enjoy your videos. I'm glad you've gone back to the x250, as it all relates to my car. I've always admired how you're just prepared to pull the car to pieces haha I'd be frightened to death.
Yesss ☺️☺️
Very helpful
Like your videos man, do perhabs knw how i can order jaguar parts .?
You can get used stuff on eBay and new parts on Amazon
I lovee your car
💡💡👍👍
i think thoose side light in the roof will start to light of them self sometimes :/
They haven't done so yet, but I know how to fix it if it does start doing that.
@@carfanfan okay, good to hear. sadly my xf has that problem. even with the orginal bulbs. maybe it has been same problem on yours with the pervious owner, and thats why he has removed the two side bulbs ? but nice to hear it works like it should.
@@lindvallpaul9861 Don't worry, I'll do a video on how to fix it yourself soon 😉
@@carfanfan super thank you :) all your videos has been much help for me. love your videos.
