Yeah, I know Saleen is still around but it's effectively been stolen by the Chinese government. I think both Steve Saleen and John Hennessey were smart car guys but terrible business owners. However, at least Saleen had the integrity to conduct business in an honest manner, unlike Hennessey. This guy still gets lauded by car guys to this day, and it's bullshit. He deserves all the ridicule that he gets. With a planned total of 24 F5s that have probably already been paid for, color me not surprised when it turns out that he ends up not delivering, yet again.

I have a 2012 LS9 camaro from them. It was "limited edition" and let me tell you. IT IS JUNK. I paid a lot of money for fake carbon fiber(no joke they ebay carbon fiber wrapped the rear under bumper "diffuser"), Used my factory rear tires on the aftermarket fronts(HRE wheels) and bought shitty factory tires in a larger size(305s) for the rear. I asked to not drive the car because I was going to use it as a "collector" and they put 230 miles on it of supposed "testing." I'm sure it was actually them letting other people drive my car. After being 4 months past delivery date, I showed up out of the blue to pick it up. It was wrong order, wrong colors(accents), and wrong number plate(I specifically asked for a certain number on badge). Then to top it off, they tried to cheer me up by testing driving (with me in the passengers seat) a customers car that they said they "wouldn't mind." So please, RUN, don't walk away from Hennessey performance. I lost $60k+ because the car is maybe worth 70k now(paid 120k total)

When I was young and bought my first project car in a 2003 S2000, I used to run with guys who had gnarly 60-130 bad ass cars. We used to go to Hennessy’s track and pay for track days on Saturday’s and just run any number of hot laps, proving runs, and eval cuts all on the historic track outside of the legends shop. It was pretty awesome. And definitely makes me appreciate my history in cars

@@DBMelly James briefly alluded to it in the video, but ever since the late 90's, John has been known for scamming customers, taking large amounts of money for high-end upgrades, and parting out vehicles. In one particular case that I remember, the customer had shipped his car to Hennessey and paid nearly a hundred thousand dollars for upgrades, only to wait for months and months with no real updates on the car. Eventually he flew out to Texas and visited the shop, where he saw his car covered in dust and missing many of the stock parts. There have been many more stories about similar situations, where customer cars have been parted out or people have paid in advance for work that never got done, etc. I don't think that he purposefully set out to scam anyone, but I think he's absolutely terrible at running a business and this has caused his company to have a very bad reputation for those who know about him. There's also the fact that the shop's reputation is not that great even for the work that they did do. IMO Hennessey builds magazine cars, cars that can be flogged on for a day and then handed back to him, before anything catastrophic happens.

That's absurd! Sure, the tuning scene was extremely young back then and not a lot of people were doing that, but that's still a ridiculous price for what amounts to some basic bolt-ons. He built his company out of scamming people that don't know any better. Because car magazines keep lauding his company.

Exhaust and intercooler fabrication was nothing new, and Mitsubishi turbos are cheap and some of them bolt right on to replace the stock turbos. Boost control can be made with $5 worth of parts. Most of the early tuner guys started out doing the cheap mods because those were most easily done and readily available. Even with "custom" parts I find $15k to be ridiculous. It just doesn't add up. He didn't even have an aftermarket clutch in that car.

I met THE MR. Henny at the Cars & Coffee Irvine back in 2012. He had the Venom GT that day and I couldn't stop drooling... Anyways, It ended up with him giving me 8 VIP Formula D Long Beach bands. Definitely one of the nicest car guys I've met.
Growing up with parents who were in the drag racing scene in Houston, I always heard a lot about Hennessey and none of it was ever good. Honestly from some of the people the he scammed and took advantage of, I don't know how he is still alive. He had people all over the country sending him death threats for screwing them outta a LOT of money.
Just save yourself a lot of heartache and trouble and get a callaway, Shelby, SRT, or just anything else. Dude that owns Hennessy is a crook better to stay clear of guys like that.

I have been all over the internet for like 2 years now and still no footage of the Hennessy f5 going 300 mph but just claims that are annoying the the actual fastest street legal cars in the world.
That's because Hennessey is a scam artist.

@@DBMelly James briefly alluded to it in the video, but ever since the late 90's, John has been known for scamming customers, taking large amounts of money for high-end upgrades, and parting out vehicles. In one particular case that I remember, the customer had shipped his car to Hennessey and paid nearly a hundred thousand dollars for upgrades, only to wait for months and months with no real updates on the car. Eventually he flew out to Texas and visited the shop, where he saw his car covered in dust and missing many of the stock parts.
There have been many more stories about similar situations, where customer cars have been parted out or people have paid in advance for work that never got done, etc. I don't think that he purposefully set out to scam anyone, but I think he's absolutely terrible at running a business and this has caused his company to have a very bad reputation for those who know about him.
There's also the fact that the shop's reputation is not that great even for the work that they did do. IMO Hennessey builds magazine cars, cars that can be flogged on for a day and then handed back to him, before anything catastrophic happens.
You know how they say if something is too good to be real it probably isn't? Well Hennessy being a wizard of making any car a performance car kinda sounds an example

@Rodolfo Ramos Any competent tuner with access to parts can do what Hennessey does for a fraction of the price. His prices from the very beginning have always been absurd (which begs the question as to why he has to part out and sell customer cars in order to keep the business running). $15k to make 450 HP in a 3000GT? That's absurd! Sure, the tuning scene was extremely young back then and not a lot of people were doing that, but that's still a ridiculous price for what amounts to some basic bolt-ons.
He built his company out of scamming people that don't know any better. Because car magazines keep lauding his company.

@@92suzukigsx1100g Of the mods that I can find documented, most likely the most expensive one was the "programmable computer," whatever that may have been. Exhaust and intercooler fabrication was nothing new, and Mitsubishi turbos are cheap and some of them bolt right on to replace the stock turbos. Boost control can be made with $5 worth of parts. Most of the early tuner guys started out doing the cheap mods because those were most easily done and readily available. Even with "custom" parts I find $15k to be ridiculous. It just doesn't add up. He didn't even have an aftermarket clutch in that car.

I met THE MR. Henny at the Cars & Coffee Irvine back in 2012. He had the Venom GT that day and I couldn't stop drooling... Anyways, It ended up with him giving me 8 VIP Formula D Long Beach bands. Definitely one of the nicest car guys I've met.

Growing up with parents who were in the drag racing scene in Houston, I always heard a lot about Hennessey and none of it was ever good. Honestly from some of the people the he scammed and took advantage of, I don't know how he is still alive. He had people all over the country sending him death threats for screwing them outta a LOT of money.

I like the v8 sound as much as the next guy - although on the muscle car end thats the best thing about them as they just can't put that power down meaningfully. Aston Martin's valkyrie @1000bhp @11krpm is a screaming monster but its a v12.

Not only that but if the smallest things go wrong on the European cars it’s extremely expensive to fix and if your a hands on do it yourself kinda guy like me you can’t even work on em. I like all aspects of the automotive world but to me the only thing supercars are good for is making they’re owners think they’re untouchable and that makes it so much more satisfying when I blow by them and take there money. I have a 1400 hp 2015 zl1 camaro and I pick on dudes like that at my local track all the time. Easy money really.
