- Decided to pick up a couple of these small guys and have some fun with them. first mods completed.
First Typhon
castle creation micro x2 combo with the 5300kv motor.
18t Losi 2mm shaft pinion
stock spur
2ch spectrum receiver
hoovo 3s 2200mah 50c lipo batteries
Mods in the mail:
tires
shocks
esc mount plate
F/R differentials
*CVD axles when they become available..
Second Typhon mods to be installed:
57T spur, 22t pinion on stock motor
tires
shocks
Granite Grom mods to install:
2in1 6000kv specktrum motor/esc
18t pinion
2ch receiver

ive used this combo but with the higher 8200 kv. I over geared it though to a 21T. It got hot but boy was it moving. You should be safe on 2s up to a 21-22T with the 5300kv! On 3S watch temp, I wouldn't bash with a 3s tho! The only thing with that 0808 motor is the 2mm shaft. I tends to snap sometimes! If that happens grab you a 380 brushless motor with a 3.175 shaft. Hot racing makes 0.5mod 3.175 pinions too! Awesome video. subbed my brotha!

I’m running a 4600kv on 19t and it gets warm on 2s…… 21t is definitely too high for 5300kv that setup will get warm quick

I have them in all my mini's running on the stock battery and I don't have any problems all have good speed and I can increase the battery power to get more out of them , even have 1 for the granite grom seeing I can use the controller it came with

use can drill that set screw out of that pinion or cut it off with a dremel ! also you might want to invest in a vise if your gonna apply downward pressure!

That's the correct esc but that motor is for lighter cars like the losi mini b. Castle has a motor slightly bigger I have it in my groms. 10series castle motors check it out.
The 10series castle can also be ran sensored
I saw that after buying this from the local hobby shop. If the shaft break or it start having heat issues i will go after the 10 series for sure. Thx for the info
Pulled the trigger on the 1007-6350kv combo. I will put this 0808 -5300 combo in my other typhon that ima keep majority plastic, should remain under 2lbs loaded. But the red typhon im going billet so i will need the bigger motor.

Use the 8200 kv or new 8450kv the 8200 pulls the tires off the ground on demand on my granite grom. Arrma has a esc plate for the brushless conversion already too. You may have to trim a corner for the motor to fit though.
0808-5300kv is crazy fast on 18t pinion. I have foam tires and upgraded diffs a Big difference. But im going with the 1010-5300kv motor. Bigger shaft bigger can. New vid coming up.

I have broken those MIP bit too.the same size to be exact.. lmao.. I have the torch as well. I just wasnt expecting it to snap!!
Maybe because I'm older and I've been doing rc cars for 20 years now but my grom is fast enough for me I just wish the car was more tunable like shock position and camber 😁👍
Yeah me too. Im in my 40s. Lol. Some adjustable turnbuckles would be nice. Its a fight to keep it straight at faster speeds. But then again it only $140.. cant ask for to much more at that price. I love’em… thx for watching bro.

i melted a 6000kv spectra firma esc motor combo. spectra receiver and transmit. used granite grom wheels. insane speed. but built up way too much heat smoked the esc and motor

broken shafts on two of those. upgraded to the 1020 I believe it was with 1/8 shaft

Next time taking off a pinion use heat from a heat gun to warm it up because there's loctite on that pin
Ez run has a 7800kv that is even smaller than that and you should be able to keep the fan
I installed the same set up on mine after watching your video, I’m having some issues with the motor getting super hot after 3 minutes of run time. It even melted the wires. Have you had the same issue ?

Sorry to hear that bro, no no melting of wires, what size pinion are you running? 18T? Its aggressively geared for bashing more for speed runs. you may want to drop the pinion to a 16T. also zip tie your wires if you can. I realized the first run it was hot , but the next few runs its avg around 147-150 degrees. Also want to make sure your car is not to heavy. I recently took this setup out of the typhon and put it in my granite grom because all the upgrades to my typhon made it to heavy for the 0808 motor, I will have a new vid up shortly.

I have the furitek kraken 6700kv on mine with a furitek speed cat, using 3s and have had zero issues.
If you aint had diff issues yet and they still factory, its only a matter of time b4 you do. Castle broke all my diffs. Had to upgrade all of them.

The 2 in1is not going to work on the typhoon grom everyone I have seen installed has failed either overheating or shaft breaks on the motor!

Were you able to fit the fan and heat sink?
No fan no heat sink. The can is tiny. I would need to find another method of getting air inside, may end up drilling holes in the body or cutting the windshield out. Its on foam tires now and its extremely fast. New vid coming up.
I have try 2040motor 3900kv and is fucking loud and hard to keep strait on 3s on this typhon grom
They need avc for sure. Thinking about taking one of my receivers from my other rigs just to test it.
what motor mount did you use, i bought the same motor and esc, the problem is the bolt holes dont line up with the the motor
Your referring to the motor mount? If so, it does line up, its the widest holes on the motor. Not the larger holes, but the widest of the smaller holes. If that makes since. Align the motor so the wires are facing more toward the outside frame of the car and it should bolt right on. If you have the 5300kv motor.. if you have the 5600kv or 4400kv ir 6350kv motor you will want the motor lead facing the driveshaft and you will have to modify(cut) the cover so it will fit over the leads. Other opinion is to get a universal motor mount.

🤷🏾♂️ trial and error my guy.. i ordered some motor mounts to see if the mesh can be adjusted. Currently its on the factory motor mount. May need to be adjusted one up or down. We will see… thanks for watching bro!
That pinion ain't gonna fit anyway. Different shaft size.

Great work bro!! With these brushless systems, especially on the Groms…. Work on not “driving digital”. Be smoooooth on the throttle! The Mamba Micro is sensored as well, so it’s tunable and driving smooth makes it actually accelerate harder and go faster on the top end!
I’ll be going with the Mamba Micro in my Mojave Grom I just got. Video coming in the near future!

In my world of RC this is a very tiny. Im use to 5th scale esc’s. So seeing this first hand, is very small comparing to a max4 esc 🤣
