Spain's classical music is underrated.
So is their sherry.
Especially De Falla's, he should be a household name. I was listening to 3-cornered hat when I was just a dumb kid and even then I realized, for what it was, that it surpassed any movie soundtrack. I like Massanet too.

Probably one of the greatest concerts of all time. Vengerov with the encore and Domingo conducting a Chicago Symphony Orchestra with Barenboim in the forefront. Spectactular.

I remember having the privilege to see Barenboim play this in person with the CSO at Medinah Temple that year. The swimmy acoustics were perfect to immerse oneself totally in de Falla's Spain. Magical concert
Seen this in Liverpool being played brilliantly, the garden must be full of beautiful Rose's, for all occasions, in some parts, it wouldn't look out of place in the mouth of the pianist, fantastic.

John Williams, the soundtrack composer nor the guitarist, must have listened to this hundreds of times. I can recall many of his pieces on this one, from E.T. to Raiders through Close Encounters. Those strings building up tension, and slowing down with the same mistery and the piano drops here and there.

I used to roll my eyes at the mention of Plácido Domingo, thinking he was just a comercial name; had no idea he was the real deal, and a legend.

So strange to see Barenboim on the piano and Placido conducting 😂 I guess I’m too used to Barenboim conducting and Placido singing opera.
I did a double-take myself. Then I thought, why not? Kind of like a professor of chemistry who teaches and is an expert in the lab as well. Not everyone can do both well. The great ones can.
Daniel Barenboim was a great pianist first, a child prodigy, then a conductor, so I don't find it surprising at all. (Actually, that's not quite true, he also started conducting very young as well, but decided it was hard to be learning both well at the same time, so decided to concentrate on piano in his youth, with occasional conducting summer camps I think. He then came back to it full time later in life.)
The big surprise for me is seeing him use sheet music. He has hundreds of works from Beethoven, Mozart and other composers fully committed to memory. I suppose this piece wasn't part of his onetime repertoire.
Only 11 thumbs down. Most people watching approve of Domingo's conducting.

It is a great performance, one of my favourite pieces of all time. Unfortunately, there are some brief moments in this recording where the piano is drowned out, rather than accompanied by, the orchestra.

Las "orquestas" del área de SF Bay y sus grupos de música clásica, aunque el área tiene una población de más de 15 millones, casi no tiene actuaciones en YT, simplemente porque todas las orquestas, excepto quizás una, suenan como orquestas de escuela primaria, especialmente en comparación con el resto de los EE. UU. y casi cualquier orquesta en el Reino Unido o Europa. Ha sido así durante algunas DÉCADAS. ¿Porqué es eso?
Domingo, ni sabe dirigir, ni me gusta su imagen dentro de la música. Mi respeto y admiración por el Maestro Barenboim.

I don’t know, maybe it’s me, but this music does nothing for me. Quiet passages followed by sustains and staccato hits on the piano. Not melodic. Rather boring in my opinion.
