    awesome video! We all have been brainwashed by the pet industry and vets when it comes to feed our pets, and no wonder we all have concerns when it comes to raw feeding!!. The other issue is the media always exaggerates when someone gets sick by handling raw meat at home. It has been numerous times when people and pets get sick by kibble that often gets spoiled.

    It's not scary feeding your dog raw meat. Losing your last beloved kibble fed dog to cancer is scary. I've been feeding my current dog raw meat for nearly 13 years. I've never had a healthier happy dog. She's never had food poisoning and has cost me next to nothing in pet bills. Raw food all the way for me!

      That is great. Just watch out for the kibble pushers and vegan feeders. LOL

      I completely agree! The thought of feeding my animals kibble make me feel horrible! Some people are must stuck in the 1980’s. 😊 the other things to Re-consider is vaccines.

    What I Also recommend is to take a wet cloth and wipe the dogs mouth and any areas that it used while eating raw meat to prevent bacteria sitting there and multiplying. This is the most important for dogs with long ears, long fur around their mouth or skin folds.

    Nice, I really enjoyed this video. There's so much misinformation out there, its hard to know what to trust sometimes. I've been wanting to start giving my dog raw meat on occasion. Right now, the majority of what I feed my dog I make for him in a crock pot. 2lbs of meat (i rotate between/combine: elk, venison, bison, beef, animal organs, fowl/poultry), 1lb of brown rice, and I pick 2/3 veggies/fruit that I rotate between: carrots, peas, broccoli, apples, sweet potato, butternut squash. Plus, I give him sea kelp in his breakfast because his skin gets super dry, I give him bone marrow bones once a month, a little bit of plain greek yogurt once a week, and an egg twice a week. I also buy a bag of dog food from the fridge at Pet Station just in case I miss some nutrients that he needs. He store bought 2-3 days a week. He eats the crock pot food 4-5 days a week. Am I giving him too much variety, or is that okay? Are there things I should add?

    Could you make a video on how to introduce raw meaty bones to your dog and how to handle a situation where they don’t seem interested in the bone or are unsure of what to do?
    Recently switched from cooked to raw, and this is what remains in his diet for it to be complete. He’s got healthy teeth and no issues with chewing things like sticks. I’ve been thinking of introducing it separately from meals, as a treat or fun activity, until he gets used to it.

    Happy Purrsday! I always enjoy your videos, Mariah. You and Jess Caticles are a welcome refuge from the corporate pet food world. On Valentine's day, no less, I encountered several kibble pushers who insist people who feed raw/ homemade are closed minded and don't know what we are doing. Ouch! They have been feeding their 40 year old dogs nothing but kibble for the last 50 years! Keep up the good work.

    I swear people's common sense goes out the window sometimes.
    The outcry that its impossible to safely prepare raw meat is just. . .baffling to me. Does not one cut meat in their own home for their own meals? Do you not use a cutting board and wipe down your counters regularly? Have you never had sushi before? A rare steak? A Tartar?
    I just, don't get it. More and more people seem to be squeamish around just the concept of raw meat. I remember being confused as to why a coworker who was tasked with browning the ground beef for tacos once was acting so squeamish about it. . .is it because I was roped into helping my mother prepare BARF for her dogs by the time I was eight?

    • @edschulhof6303
      @edschulhof6303 7 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      Many kibble feeders believe raw feeders are closed minded, uninformerd and victims of slick marketing. When I cook ground beef, my cats get some raw. We eat the same boiled chicken thighs. My cats eat it plain, mine gets seasoning and and sauces.

    I love your content! You’ve helped me with my raw feeding for my dog, I’m trying to encourage my mom to feed her dogs raw too and vids like this really help to answer their concerns (about raw pork, bacteria, etc). Have you ever fed the freeze dried Vital Essentials? I use some freeze dried for breakfast since my dog seems to like a drier texture in the morning (fresh raw at night), either Vital Essentials, Bones & Co or Green Juju. Would love your thoughts on any of these! Thank you for all the work you put into these!

      So, I actually use Vital Essentials as a trick training treat. My understanding is that while they advertise it doesn't 'need' to be rehydrated, it still should be if used often

    Hello, so I made a list of everything I feed my 75-pound Malinois please tell me is this is a good combo.
    Breakfast-1/5 of a stemmed carrot for eye support so he doesn't get cloudy eyes, pinch of blueberries, strawberries and black berries for fiber antioxidants and to try to prevent cancers, flaxseeds for omega 3, 1 raw egg with mem brain, 1 chicken leg for zinc and protein, 1 chicken foot for clean teeth and dental care, 1 whole fresh sardine for omega 3 and 5, 4 chicken hearts for heart health, 2oz of pork liver, and as muscle meat he has 1lb of duck-duck liver-duck hearts-duck wings I grinded up. I did a little more muscle meat or many proteins because he is very active.
    Dinner-5 stemmed broccolis for vitamins, minerals, fiber, and antioxidants, spoon of cooked spinach for omega 3s, Keifer with chia seeds, 1 egg with mem brain, 1 chicken leg for zinc and protein, 1 chicken foot for dental care, 1 whole fresh sardine for omega 3 and 5, 2oz of pork liver, 4 chicken hearts, 1lb of beef blend I made ground beef-beef rib-beef liver-beef spleen-beef kidney and beef tripe. I did a little more muscle meat or many proteins because he is very active.

    • @KhaleesiCirilla
      @KhaleesiCirilla 7 หลายเดือนก่อน

      yes you can. they can be introduced right after weaning :) start small and if feeding kibble/wet food then don't feed more than 10% because it'll make the food unbalanced. some feed 50/50 raw, like dome days balanced raw diet (organs, bone, meats), other days dry food or wet. also start with one protein so you can see if your pet has some intolerances

    @PawsofPrey Very informative video, Mariah. I'm just in the planning phase to switch to raw and your channel has been the most comprehensive I've found. I've already weaned my 5 cats off of kibble (one junior, 3 seniors and a geriatric 20 year old lady who is now in diabetic remission). It took over a year to get them all transitioned from dry to wet as I have one who is a kibble junkie and would pick it out of the canned food if I mixed it in. They've been exclusively eating canned for about 6mos.) I already purchased your Cat Meal Formulator and have been noodling about with it. One question I have that is on topic for this video: How long is safe to leave the food out after feeding if they don't eat it all at once? Thanks for all you do.

    Hi. This video is very helpful. Kudos! 😊
    I would like to ask if it is okay to use a blender and mix the meat like pork and chicken together with liver and other secreting organs? So I can give it to my dogs directly? I will just add the bones separately.
    Thanks and hoping that my comment will be noticed. 😂

    • @kristaanne2144
      @kristaanne2144 7 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Yes it’s totally fine to blend! Most commercial raw is blended with all the organs and some use multiple proteins as well. I feed my girl a commercial grind of beef and chicken with organs and add some ground pork and turkey for variety 😊

    • @wintyforever
      @wintyforever 5 หลายเดือนก่อน

      I go to my local butcher and ask for the meat that they will be discarding. They give it to me for free in a big frozen and ground ball. It’s a bunch of meat that didn’t sell combined with animals parts and organs that people don’t eat. Amazing for the dogs and they like it. All I do is add raw bones and an egg or sardine at times, and ground veggies. It’s cleaner too since my dogs tend to pick things out of the bowls and put in on the floor. With the ground meat they just eat it like kibble. Thankfully they are healthy 8&10 yr old pups.

    What if the meat is contaminated with salmonella or other bacterias I've heard some brands use cold deep pressure or pasteurize or just steam the upper part of the meat to kill most bacteria can you please make a video on that I've always wondered how to kill bacteria as there is a possibility of some meats containing to much bacteria?

    • @PawsofPrey
      @PawsofPrey  7 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Raw meat should not be contaminated with a harmful amount of bacteria if handled and stored properly. Cold/high pressure pasteurization is more of a way for the company to stay safe if the owner handles the food wrong. There are some negatives to this method - I don't know the ins and outs of it all, but I have seen that it also kills of the beneficial bacteria that supports your pet's gut health.

    Wasn't there a study that found that people who actually prepared their dogs food in their normal food prep area had less cases of food born illness than people who did it in separate areas? We can't say for sure why. Maybe they get more micro exposure to the pathogens and get resistance, maybe people are more hygenic when they handle meat in their normal kitchen? Who knows. But I find the fuss about hygiene very weird when most people are omnivores and handle meat anyway... And when most food poisoning comes from plants!
