    oh wow this is super helpful... I'm thinking of pre-portioning stuff for each week but Cardi is growing so quickly so it's been a little bit tough. I was not thawing anything right. I buy everything online for now. But I'm going to start checking out international markets as a month of just meat and bone is roughly $600/month

    The quickest way to thaw is to put the meat in a tub of cold water like you show, but to have the faucet running gently into it, to keep the water moving. Alton Brown had an episode of Good Eats comparing thawing methods, and the cold running water was even quicker than something put into a hot oven, believe it or not. Science!

I am interested in starting her up again in her raw diet but need help creating a plan for her and balancing it. I've watched your videos but they all include chicken which she is unable to have. I just started feeding my dog raw food based on a chart i found and it says the 80% of meat they need can only be fed 2-3 times a week along 10% bone, 5% excreting organ, 5% liver. (Liver as well 3 times a week) i feed him brain, heart, testicle, liver ground beef with pureed carrots broccoli and spinach and a chicken leg. In the afternoon i feed him 2 chicken legs and a 7oz ball of the ground beef. Now where i am really confused and where my question comes in is what do i feed my dog the other 4 days out of the week Because i fed him what he needed the first 3 days of the week? (Hes 50lbs i also weigh out all his raw meat and i need to feed 10oz in morning and afternoon which comes out to being a little more than a pound a day and i need to meet his daily requirements which is food intake for his size) i definitley feel like im not balancing something right any tips would really me out please and thanks

    • @MichellePieon
      @MichellePieon 3 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Most online ratios are 80% muscle meat, 10% bone, 10% secreting organs. You would feed between 2-3% of their adult body weight PER DAY. So any vegetables or supplements are in addition to their meat ratios. I try to feed balanced meals every day as I have a young dog.
      Adult dogs can have meal replacement meaty bones (chicken backs, necks etc) instead of a balanced meal 2-3x a week. I think that is where your confusion is coming in.

    What's your go to method of thawing if you don't have space in the fridge? I share a small fridge with 2 roommates lol and my dog eats 2 pounds a day. My method before was just putting the packages in a basin the night before, and they are always still cold in the morning, but it sounds like I should be checking it more. Maybe I will have to switch to thawing in water during the day instead.

    • @PawsofPrey
      @PawsofPrey  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Good question! If you are home all day during one day, maybe do it then? If there's a bunch of frozen meat together, they should be able to keep eachother cold enough as they thaw, but it is a bit more risky when it's that long!

    • @fraliak

      @@PawsofPrey Thanks! Yeah I generally put out big pieces of muscle meat first and then put out the fish and organs just an hour or so before prepping. Luckily I work from home, so I'll start putting it out first thing in the morning and checking on it more often throughout the day.

    hi!! i'm so afraid that i won't meet the daily nutritional guide... how do i ensure that? like the daily requirements of different vitamins, is it enough to just follow a percentage of 75/80% muscle meat, 5% liver and etc? some sources are confusing me... do i really have to make exact calculation and portioning e.g. to meet amount of amino acids needed? T-T

    • @PawsofPrey
      @PawsofPrey  3 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      Yes I understand it can be pretty confusing! To know for sure you need to calculate your pet's caloric intake, then compare that to the NRC nutrient guidelines. These are based on 1000kcal so if your pet needs 1000kcal daily, it will be easy to get the numbers, but you have to do some math if their caloric intake is below that. You can figure out the caloric intake from this video: th-cam.com/video/YwkwkecJx3E/w-d-xo.html . Find your dog's nutrient requirements (this is for adults): www.socalrawfeddogs.com/nutrient-requirements-calculator-for-adult-dogs/ . And Perfectly Rawsome provides all the NRC nutrient requirements on her website: perfectlyrawsome.com/raw-feeding-essential-nutrients/ . After figuring out your dog's numbers for each nutrient, you can go to fdc.nal.usda.gov/ and search the foods you're providing in the meal and add everything up. OR......you can get a custom meal plan from rawpetsrule.com or perfectlyrawsome.com and they will do it for you lol

    • @fathiyya4224

    • @dlg.studios5649

      Yes! It is much easier for most dogs (or cats) to maintain their weight while eating a fresh food diet rather than a commercial food diet. Although, it still often does have to do with how much exercise you give the animal or how much you feed it.
