    Cutting duck heads in half works great for my small dogs. My yorkie has gulped the end of a chicken foot on occasion. It did not cause issues but necks and feet tend to encourage him to gulp the last piece. Mine do well with chicken wings.

    Hi Mariah, 👋🏽
    Thank you for all the love, passion and hard work you share with all the raw feeders. Your videos are always informative and very appreciated.
    I've noticed that beef kidney causes my dog an unpleasant stinky breath. I brush his teeth evey night before going to bed but the smell still remains. How can I avoid that? 😅

    • @PawsofPrey
      @PawsofPrey  ปีที่แล้ว +3

      Thanks so much, Leana! :)
      You notice it's only when you add kidney to the diet? How much do you feed? Kidney is certainly smelly, but I'm shocked it lingers so much since it's such a small portion of the diet! You can of course feed different secreting organs, but other than teeth brushing with enzymatic toothpaste, there really isn't something that can completely take the smell away from specific foods.

    • @leanadomsan
      @leanadomsan ปีที่แล้ว +4

      @@PawsofPrey yes, the bad breath is only present when I feed him the kidneys. According to his weight, only 0.48 oz. It's a small amount so I'm not sure why his breath stinks every time he eats this. This is the reason I don't feed him kidneys, but I replaced it with bull testicles.

  • @rogerflorensa

    Great video, as usual. My two cats absolutely hate kidney, no matter the species, and leave it untouched when I put it on their meals (I tried to cut it really small, but their sense of smell and dexterity with their tongue is amazing), so I usually complement the liver with thymus or testis. Any advice or recommendation?

    My boys love everything raw so far the past few years. Only one needed to warm up to certain liver and kidneys when fully thawed. Slightly frozen and he ate it. Now it’s all gobbled down. Good luck on your journey! What you explained sounds like nothing more than hunger pukes, which can happen when switching to a diet that's a lot more easily digestible and doesn't sit in the stomach for a long time (like commercial food) I remedy this with a small snack before bed (or before any long stretch without food), but if your dog is actually acting ill, I would consult your vet (though I will warn you, they will often blame the raw diet without any background information)

    I have tried feeding raw green tripe many times from different reputable resources. This is the only thing that makes my dog chew her feet. I suspect it may have grain in it although it is supposedly grass finished. The other thing could be that it is high in histamine.

    • @PawsofPrey
      @PawsofPrey  ปีที่แล้ว +4

      Ah, interesting! Yes the diet of the animal certainly changes things nutritionally, and in other ways.

    • @mamabear9389

      @Paws of Prey I have read some articles where anything high in histamines can aggravate yeast in some dogs. This unfortunately includes some very healthy things such as fermented foods. There may be truth to this. It seems to be a trigger for her. I hate not feeding it though because I know it is a great source of manganese. Her gut is great so she does not seem to miss the probiotic benefits. I gotta listen to my dog!

    I only feed wild game meat. Supermarket meat is only for emergencies. Game eats it's appropriate diet and is much more sustainable in Europe at least (no large predators left to control numbers), no hormones, antibiotics or bad feed is given to them. Hey so I just saw your comment. I have GSD dog as well. No you do not want to mix kibble with raw. The rate of digestion is much different. Raw food is know to digest at a rate of about 8 hours where as processed can take up to 24 hours. This has the potential of causing a bacteria build up. This is why when you switch your dog to raw, you fast a day before introducing our food, no slow change over.

    Ever heard of Pottenger's Cats? We (humans) should also consume raw (and not just muscle meats). Currently, chickens and pigs are primarily raised on inappropriate diets thus their meat is inferior to wild or grass-fed forest/pasture raised animals. Freezing the meat is less optimal than fresh but doesn't destroy the nutrients like cooking does...

    My puppy eats kibble (soaked with water or water from boiling chicken)as her dinner (only half a cup even though she's about 6kg and 9 months old, she really doesn't need much) but almost every day gets one of the following
    • frozen raw chicken neck
    • frozen raw chicken tip
    • raw frozen beef mince
    • splash of goat milk
    • teaspoon of yogurt
    • small egg
    • salmon skin
    • various vege/fruit like carrot, apple, pumpkin and zucchini
    • treats like dried beef liver, dried carrot, dried apple, providore air dried food, cow hooves, homemade peanut butter cookies and salmon jerky
    I also add a fish oil capsule, flax/chia seeds, herbs (e.g. turmeric, oregano, thyme, cinnamon) to her meals a couple times a week.
    Feedback? Any affordable ways to improve? Chicken tips are superrrr cheap from my butcher and a good size. I could perhaps get my hands on raw beef liver, kidneys, beef tongue, chicken hearts etc but they might be pricey.
    I have friends who are slaughtering tons of sheep in the near future so hopefully I'll get some organ meats of them. I don't want to feed wjole heads cos they freak me out but I can deal with feet and necks.
