Apparently her E skill functions similarly to catalyst users (NPCs will clap for her instead of quiver in fear) so it could be she was meant to be a catalyst but we'll never know

If you really want to test a shield character, take them to the ruin guard in the desert that shoots eye lasers. If your shield can survive one hit of that, you're good to go!

I will respectfully say Layla did huge amount of emotional damage in this showcase.
I like how Laylas damage is so low, that it got IWTL to question what damage is existentially for the first time in his life.
So basically, she’s great especially if you don’t have zhongli. Her shield is pretty impressive. Utility wise Diona wins with universality but imma get at least one of copy of her because she’s so cuteeee.

I'm pretty sure he made a mistake when comparing Dionas shield to hers. Dionas shield is actually pretty similar in strength, since the shields DMG absorbtion is increased by 75% if you use the hold version of the skill.
At talent level 8 with Diona you get: shield hp = 20.16% max hp + 2273 flat ((11.52% max hp + 1299 flat) * 1.75 )
At talent level 8 with Layla you get: shield hp = 17.28% max hp + 1950 flat
Of course Layla still has more base hp than Diona, so it should still be slightly more bulky but not that much.
Regarding the uptime, Dionas shield is pretty decent too with 12 second uptime and only 3 seconds downtime when using the hold version of the skill.
It's a bit disappointing she can't do more, but hey, second best shield in the game competing with Zhongli on a 4 star with almost 100% uptime? That's gotta count for something.
yeah it would but in the cases she would be used like freeze teams, noone needs that much shield, the whole point of freeze. and in other teams, just go for zhongli if u have him since she dont bring anything else on the table or go for other defensive utility such as diona with 200 em at c6 if ur team needs it, which...with dendro is now so good.

@@lostblueboy to be honest Im getting her just because she fills in Zhongli’s role as shielder while also applying Cryo resonance for a freeze team of mine. Diona isn’t cutting it for me so hopefully I find more success with Layla. Plus if i remember correctly Zhongli’s E applies shatter (is that what it’s called?), so often times it’ll randomly break frozen enemies when I don’t want him to. It’s not optimal, but it’s a start.

However.....please explain why diona isnt cutting it anymore and why u think layla would change that, alsooooo with freeze, u cant say laylas somewhat superior shield makes her better since well..........its a fucking freeze team, u shouldnt even have a shielder there but still, diona is moreeeeeeeee than enough for a freeze team.
And also zhonglis one shatter at skill cast is not a reason to change the entire team, esp since he provides a CC of his own, petrification. And finally, unless you have some weird team, most freeze teams already have cryo resonance since one cryo and one hydro is a must and third slot is almost always another cryo damage dealer like rosaria aor ayaka or ganyu or whatever. so............what team do u have that needs the fourth slot to fulfill cryo resonance. only one i can think of is either double hydro in which case.........well not optimal and fridge teams in which case sure but thats a niche team and in that case barbara or kokomi is enough for defensive utility, u dont need a shielder.

I expected her to be just like diona with the shield but instead of healing, she applies cryo more fast and more consistent. Tbh if they made her a catalyst user she'd be a 10/10 unit since there are a lot of good catalyst weapons and you can do healing shenanigans with prototype amber haha.

It's a character probably for those who don't have Diona or Zhong, but for now she'll gather dust like Candace.

Imo Layla is quite well-designed. At C0, she already has 100% uptime Shield, low-energy Burst cost (40), and can hang ice on enemy.
Since her shield lasts 12 seconds, I feel like she would be great in teams that have a short rotation time, such as Ayato Hyperbloom or maybe in Melt-Vaporize Team like Yoimiya Layla Yelan.
Need more testing for sure, but overall she's a pretty solid 4-star unit :)

Having Layla is almost the best thing i can ask for my Hutao team. Finally in able to enjoy consistent shielding without accidentally climb a pillar and served with delicious melt damage
A great shield support since her shield have 100% uptime, the drawback is the shield only last 12 second so you need to change to Layla, in actual battle this quite annoying since you often forget to re-shield hence why she is good for a quick swap team
Well quick swap teams want everyone outputting high damage. Which quick swap team would she be in and who would she replace and would it be better?

I popped her into my Eula team and she fits perfectly well. She's a better Tenacity support than Zhongli, especially against bosses. I don't like bringing Zhongli everywhere and prefer to diversify my teams so having alternatives is great. Also, I don't play baby characters like Diona. I refuse.
So the curse of the 4 stars persists...

I think it is probably better to compare her to Thoma, another four star shielder, than Diona, a much more well rounded support.

Thoma is only used for Burgeon teams, so yeah

Finally someone mentioned double hydro Hu Tao with Layla. It's actually really nice since Layla enables some freeze melts and her shield duration fits Hu Tao's rotation perfectly.
She's actually gonna fit real well into my Eula, Raiden, team. This way I'll be able to add my Yelan into the team and stay relatively safe (and get cry resonance)
Since I lost my 50-50 to qiqi and got c6 heizou with c2 Layla, Im gonna build her. She is one of the characters I wanted.
As a welkin moon and battle pass player well atleast from 1.0 to 2.3. It was very refreshing to see a banner with mostly four stars. This patch has lured me back after an extended hiatus (only doing abyss). A very worth while banner it didn't feel like I was waisting wishes on characters already c6. Also Nahida is nuts from the last banner even with talents at 6. Working through 8 months of story content and really liking it. Also while pulling for Layla Diluc came on the 21st wish from 0 pity. Got the 50/50 out early Just saving heaps of wishes for the next feature banner 5* banner I want to wish on
What was very important for me is that layla can apply cryo offield with her skill. Which is good for my DPS like razor. Personally I don't have the habit of using my elemental burst unless I have to because I'm not the kind to waste it on overworld enemies when they die with a kazuha E. Considering the only other character who can do this is qiqi (and I don't have qiqi) layla is quite a relief for me
Well then i hope you get her constellation video soon. Because after 2 years it's started to get more and more important to look at 4* with constellations since they are more often nowaday build around them since many people will get more constellation at some point or another summoning for 5*
I love her SO much! I use her with Kokomi's jellyfish to freeze enemies while using her shield on my Scara, he isn't getting kicked through the whole room anymore! So glad I pulled for her. 💙

I got the impression that Layla was maybe made with Wanderer in mind? I just built mine and I'm loving their synergy. He gets consistent Cryo buff from her shield (crit rate), doesn't get knocked around for once, and the cooldowns are near-perfectly timed for an easy rotation. Fun team to try: Wanderer, Layla, Yelan/Xingqiu, Faruzan. Everything is frozen and dead in seconds.

To me it seems like, layla could potentially have 100% uptime or close to 100% uptime on 4 pc tenacity with her c6 at least. Her c4 also buffs normal and charged atks by 5% of her hp. However, due to the way it works, I don't think a character who does many normal or charged atks in a short amount of time would profit from that.
I think layla could be good for freeze ganyu and ayaka if your only other option is diona and you dont have anything better like shenhe.
I think these new 4 stars are just a fun way to mix and match teams, as well as old artifacts and weapons you have. I really don't see them replacing anyone in any situation. That Eula physical team for example would be much better off with a beidou instead
Lol fun? Maybe in a different game. You need to spend weeks farming for a single character. If you have Diona C6 she's way more valuable. Zhongli is a better big shield character too. If you like this character then sure, but her main selling point over Diona/Zhongli was her off field damage... before they nerfed it into obscurity.

I was going to try 2pc blizzard strayer + 2ps retracing bolide, but now, since I know her damadge is non-existant, I guess I'll go with 2pc tenacity instead of blizzard strayer. I need her for her shield anyway.
What interest me is her c4 that increase team NA and CA. I wonder how good is that buff compared, say, Yunjin or Thoma for NA attacker such as Ayato, Childe or Yoimiya.

Sweet. She looks like exactly what I want for my Eula. She can be a Cryo battery that isn't Diona that has a strong shield so I can get Cryo Resonance. And shes cheap to built too? Perfect time to go farm Tenacity again.
You're better off using zhongli and rosaria if you need shielding and battery, plus rosaria can give you a boost in crit rate and she can generate more particles

I got her for collection, right now I don't think there will ever be a team where I prioritize her over any other cryo applicator/shield characters, so she'll just stay lv20 for now resting in my teapot XD
@IWinToLose. Most of us are aware that non feature 5 star characters have been outclassed by feature 5 stars. It would be an interesting to see a what constellation a Diluc would would out perform a c0 Hutoa and Homa.

I would really like to hear your thoughs on pairing C4 Layla with Ayato or Geo Boys (Itto + Albedo + Gorou).
You could do a freeze team with Ayato, Layla, Rosaria, and Xingqui/Anemo unit. If you don't have Rosaria you can use Kaeya instead.
I used her for my wanderer exploration team 😊 wanderer, faruzan, layla, ganyu. This team is very convenient for me since my wanderer is stuck at 70% crit rate if I want to maintain his other stat above a certain treshold. With layla and ganyu, he can get 100% crit rate 100% of the time considering 20% from his passive and 15% from cryo resonance. Well in abbys I would use Benny instead of ganyu considering 90% crit rate is enough to not crit fish painfully whilst boosting wanderer damage decently.
Was just thinking about this team after Chenyu Vale - Layla/Yoi/Double Hydro is perfect for farming those cat enemies and the boss, and it got me wondering if I could do a proper melt.
I don't have Diona built at all but I'll give it a try with Rosaria and see how that goes.
Perfect for Eula as a battery, cryo res, and shielder though most likely you can grab Rosaria for Eula albeit I think even with Raiden and Rosaria it can be difficult to charge Eula sometimes since you want to get away with barely any ER on Eula. Even better for Ganyu burning comp especially against multiple enemies where you need multiple charge shots and also Layla won’t fuck up the melts (diona C6 prob still better though if your Ganyu can just one shot). I would say too that she is good for main dps Ayaka with her Cs, possibly better than Diona though since Ayaka doesn’t do much with the EM boost. I do have a C1 Ayaka though and it helps with ER SO much. Needs more tests though cause I really think Layla’s biggest dmg potential is via her NA/CA boost in her Cons
Layla is super useful for wanderer comp, makes me invincible as well as freeze,
From what I looked at on her constellations her the stars from her skill and burst doesn’t really do better dmg itself until c6 but c4 gives team normal atk and charged atk dmg buff based off of her hp so there’s that. I do wish one of her constellations made it similar to fischl where could trigger shooting the stars faster

honestly, there are already pretty strong characters so i kinda understand where does layla coming from. i cleared abyss okay-ly, so it's fun to play such mediocre characters yk, testing out different teams. she isnt a healer like our cat or stronger than geo archon ofc, but she does apply cryo fast and her shield is strong enough for fun teams.
i 90 candace bcs i liker her in general even tho her kit is kinda meh, but we can always utilize characters in a way u know. if u like them then why not, genshin isnt all about meta for me personally.,
the fact that she is cyro shielder is kinda a good new for me as yoimiya enjoyer, now i can put layla as shielder, sub dps ganyu, yoi and bennet to which i can enjoy 2 cyro sinergy

I got her for the strong shield, periodical cryo application, 100% tenacity uptime, and with the fav sword she generates more energy for the team than Zhongli.
As a player who has gotten tired of Diona's shield breaking and zhongli's anti energy philosophy, she's a welcomed addition.
I like her design.
As for her kit, I personally don't see the point in building her without c4, already have other supports. And since I'm not pulling on current banners and mihoyolab don't have an epitomized path system for 4* and never update the Starglitter shop with newer 4*...
I fell in love with Layla the first time I saw her, now she can sleep through pretty much anything while on my team lmfao. She's actually amazing and works very well with Yoimiya and physical DPS Fischl

Nope. Layla can use Tenacity in contrast to Diona, you can even stack it with Noblesse. Her shield is stronger. No idea what you don't understand thinking she is worse than Diona. Both are good, kinda similar, but can be better pick in different situations. Actually, I think Layla can be better pick more often.
Personally I find Diona's shield too weak so I have high hopes for Layla, except she is on an unwanted banner so I guess that's for next year.
That's for old players like us. New players would definitely love having her. If I started with a lvl1 Diona and Layla, ngl I'd grow Layla over Diona. She's also a powercreep for f2p shielders considering our good old Noelle would lose some of her already limited support spots.
@@user-vr8qd4hk6y ahem.....diona heals, is a battery with 4 cryo particles and best cryo battery with sac bow, heals really good in case you need it. andddddddd has 200 em at c6 so............yeah, diona is better. the theorycrafters put it best, layla is in middle rosaria and diona but not better than either of them. if u want cryo app and damage, go rosaria, need defensive utility, go diona.

Sounds like a solid 4 star to me. She's a cryo shielder with solid cryo application; decent particle generation and a very good shield. Nothing groundbreaking, but she fits well into the current roster.
I think she'll be especially good in fridge teams, as Zhongli isn't ideal there. Particularly bloom-fridge. dendro+2*hydro+Layla, or dendro+hydro+sucrose+layla. Depends how her stars behave in AOE. Shame her personal damage isn't higher, though.
She's also (like Candace) probably a good elemental applier for Diluc and Bennet's reaction carries.
Actually, if her cryo-application is slow enough, she may just be able to melt off of burning... So Nahida, Bennet, Layla, flex?

@@kidsworldrose4847 Lets be honest here, with the release of dendro, the shield really isn't as valuable as it was. You can pretty much delete anything especially if you have nahida. They told us to use Xinyan in a pyro team. Well that lasted about 2 weeks and she became unusable. The one thing she has going for her is her cryo application. But id use so many other units before her in a freeze comp. Only got 4 spots to fill and she doesn't make me take someone out to put her in. Therefore, i am hoping her potential is reached as newer characters are released else, she will be unusable for me.
Can you do a showdown comparison of Ayato and Childe with Nahida since Childe banner is on and Ayato banner might be around the corner?

We already have a cryo shield;, and cryo doesn't work with Nahida; what a terrible decision to make her cryo instead of hydro.
Well duh. She comes out with a hydro (childe) and an electro (yae) character. Not Nahida.
Cryo is not a good element for now. The only thing that saves is freeze.
Melt is way uncomfortable and physical is, well, physical
Cryo is a good thing! It minimizes the chances of interfering with Nahida’s combos with the remaining teammates.

The c1 from her is very great. I skip the banners bc I want Scaramouche. But if I would pull in yae banner or Childes i would go for c1 Layla. I’m coop she’s great!
she's definitely not built for dps but i can get her to a copium sub dps level with a little work. if you want her to do any kind of damage you have to nerf her shield and ignore her burst. her normal and charged attack scale on attack just like any other character. pair her with a decent cryo damage build and chongyun to infuse her sword and she can do 6~8k per normal even at 4/4/4 talents. shes never going to do numbers though lol. good cryo application if you can keep her burst up. basically stronger diona shield + 4* ganyu burst(though the tracking is better than just random drops).
She's so cute... I want her. But I don't want to pull the 5* on either of the banners, and I've already struggled to find even creative uses for Candace and Dori. Guess I'll hope she finds me off-banner at some point
She's not bad with a physical DPS Fishcl. Her skill is a nice shield for the squishy princess and her burst puts out a lot of cyro for superconduct. Alot of cryo characters burst put out offfield cyro but only Diona is a shielder too
I use layla only for shield and honestly she saved me a lot, love her.
I have raiden, bennett and xiangling for damage so hers being weak doesn't really matter to me
