I have to say, Hoyoverse kinda outdid themselves with Layla. I managed to get a C2 Layla while wishing for Yae Miko. She's only level 40 and artifacts are 2 piece tenacity and 2 piece blizzard strayer. Her shield literally carried me through this abyss and some boss runs. For a 4-star, her shield is incredible and nearly on par with Zhongli's. (The only difference is that Layla's shield lasts 8 seconds less. *Zhongli's lasts 20 seconds while Layla's 12.) Definitely a good pull.
If you think her shield is comparable to zhongli then either you don’t have have you or you have a shit build on him….. her shield is trash compared to him

Don’t expect any upcoming 4-stars to be as broken as Xiangling, Bennet, Xingqiu or Fischl, because these four stars were mistakes even overpowering some 5-stars
She will be perfect for Scaramouche since he needs as many elements in party as possible, her cryo application is nice n she can buff his atks (he is prone to interruption mid air so she’s just right for his team) rn I use her in my physical dps team
yup, having 2 other elements in his team is great, and cryo and pyro are his best ones (for crit and atk, he doesnt really need energy and having more skydweller points doesnt hurt but its not damage). ill have to wait for another rate up banner but i hope to get her to c4 because she would be an incredible support for him. she doesnt need to do damage, she just needs to apply cryo enough to trigger his passive
something that surprises me is that like kuki her normal attacks have high scaling if you wanted to do a “meme build” you could do something like retracting bolide cuz her shield has 100% uptime, lol

Exactly. Zhongli is one and a 5*. Layla is not only shielder strong enough to might replace him, but has her own advantages. I'm happy we've finally got solid 4*.
This isn't going to be a universal team, but I really love my Kaeya as a main dps, and Kaeya, Layla-full-HP%, Xiangling, and Kazuha is a very comfortable team! I think if I owned the crit damage sword I could make this team work in spiral, but it doesn't have the dps for that floor 12 shenanegans (maybe c6 layla though idk). This team is so great for overworld though!
want to say that my kaeya has a crate sword (40/190 crit) with 2pc blizzard only and his side is the faster one in abyss against my yoimiya who suffers a lot from low hp/Squishiness, it sounds like a team that could definitely work :] especially with two super meta units like kazuha and XL
I actually went all out for her, cause i though she would be soo cool for my physical fischl team as a cryo applicator plus shield, since her stars can go pretty far around she could keep up with fischl for the superconduct and with the tenacity set she could boost up the dps from time to time. So yeah ! she gonna replace my Rosaria in my special Fichl (Layla) Yunjin, Benny team ! yeah ! And no I don't have Ganyu so I don't have much of a choice for good cryo application anyway.
I think hyv introducing new characters that are mainly sidegrades of current characters is really bound to happen. After all, there hasn't been much changes in the combat system aside from the introduction of the last element. So players would then just choose according to their preferences. We've kinda seen this before with Kaeya and Rosaria (husbando v waifu), Heizou and Sucrose, and now Diona and Layla. Also C0 5* vs C6 4* too like Yelan XQ, and Yae Fischl if you think abt it.
i wouldnt really compare heizou and sucrose, they can both be drivers but otherwise dont have much in common, but i do agree with everything else. i personally like sidegrades and small changes to a kit, it lets me build characters i like and not just characters i need
Use her as your flex in your non-nilou bloom teams (including hyperbloom and burgeon). The cryo lets you get more blooms. Also works pretty well in teams that use both yelan and xingqui like Hutao and Yelan vape - the hydro res gives her bonus HP and makes her shield stronger.
I’ve been using Layla in Ayaka freeze instead of Diona and tbh, I’ve been having so much fun! I can’t quite pin point why, but applying cryo with her burst or shield and then swirling with Kazuha is more enjoyable than doing it with Diona. Not to mention that her shield is definitely stronger and you can have 100% uptime (i know with Diona is possible with sacrificial bow)
Layla is now my new meta shielder for AR 25 abyss 9-12 clears. :D Helps a ton to have her along with Zhongli. I have c6 Diona, c6 Thoma, c6 Noelle and c4 Yanfei (tankfei) and Layla is by far the best one at keeping your team alive.
I feel like she is overlooked, Jade Cutter + C4 makes her a strong dps (Increases dmg of basic dmg by 5% of herself and teammates) and jade cutter gives HP + She gets more dmg based off her hp. Jade Cutter helps with scaling abilities and giving her the high strong attack for being a main. Just put her with double HP, use jade cutter (r2 is best) and she can be easy to use and build
I've built my Hu Tao team with Yelan, Xingqiu, and Layla. Hu Tao, Yelan, and Layla's kits all scale from Max HP, so adding a second hydro character to get the HP boost from resonance makes them all much more powerful. Xingqiu has 4pc Noblesse and Layla has 4pc Tenacity, supplying lots of ATK buff. Layla's shield is very strong and applies cryo, so with Hu Tao's skill/burst I'm basically doing constant vape/melts. Very high damage team with practically 100% uptime on Layla's shield.
I got Layla to C6, lvl 80/80, and 1/11/10 and I kinda have similar mixed feelings about her like she’s alright though there are a few things I noticed while testing her out. One is that when she doesn’t have her burst up, the pace at which she generates stars on her shield can be a little irregular unless you micromanage your rotations and skill casts which does affect the tenacity buff by a small margin. She seems better fit for quickswap team comps with frequent skill casts to maximize her star generation and subsequent buffs rather than a main dps with significant field time. Another thing is about her uptime which technically CAN be 100% but I’ve found that in a lot of rotations her shield drops at conveniently bad times whereas Zhongli’s shield duration overlaps, Thoma’s refreshing shield has nearly infinite uptime if built properly, and Diona has healing to fill in the gaps. I still think her shield is strong but similarly with Thoma it’s more effective in certain team comps than others but I do find myself having to consider her team comps and rotation order more than like Thoma or Zhongli.
Think you hit the nail on the head. She's great for character that really need a shield to perform (ganyu and yoimiya) and the zhongli shield is overkill. It'd probably say she's a better match for ganyu due to cyro resonance (with yoimiya I usually run yun jin + zhongli for geo resonance). But in both cases, there are times where you'd be happy to sacrifice a bit of shield strength for the cryo application. She also takes less field time than zhongli since you have to use hold skill and his burst takes a fair amount of time in animation lock. Probably not as good as zhongli, but she's 4* and sometimes you care more about waifu > meta
I don’t have her in triple hp either. She has a crit dmg % circlet and honestly her shield has last so much. Lasts until it runs out and keeps my other characters alive. And I just got her to c6. I’m still going to farm and get better artifacts for her. I also don’t have Zhongli so she’s the next best thing.
She seems to be fine on a Razor team, you don't need huge amonts of damage from the other cryo character, just the application of cryo for super conduct
You should try a fridge comp Moga, believe it or not but cryo does work well with dendro, just not directly. The way the freeze element works makes you able to still add hydro and create blooms at the same time as the enemies being frozen. So they just stand there while everthing explodes. Hydro dendro and cryo is needed. ( not hyperbloom or burgeon )
What's up with Hoyoverse and making ridiculously cool normal attacks for characters who don't use them. Or rather, on characters where using their normals would do more harm than good in the teams they shine the most in. First Kookie and now Layla😐
2:57 also I have noticed in leaks is that the star changes it's color when is infused with pyro,cryo and hydro(I just see it in a video I don't have Layla)
My friendship team rn is yae albedo nahida and layla, and I’ve called it my afk team. As a meta slave it’s not the best when it comes to overall damage and ttk but it’s quite fun just putting yae albedo and nahidas skill down and just chilling in Layla’s shield animation 😂
Since u have her , can u check if she will be better shielder than zongly with youimia since she can make some melt with her isn’t that more DPS than having zongly?
I am currently enjoying Dps kyea freeze, with yelan and water boy with nealu. Kyea is on aquilla with blizzard, fav yelan, sac water boy for fast star procs, and triple hp tenacity nealu with jade cutter. She only does about 2k per star and 5k with her ult tic, but it feels nice. With jade and hydro res her shield is my second strongest. What little damage it doesn’t block heals back soon with rain swords.
Question! Does anyone know what's up with Yoimiya and Childe being in Chinju Forest with three kids looking for a Yokai? They even have voice lines like it's an event, but I don't see any event tied to it. Is this a new random slice of life thing that characters will be getting?
@@dawn973 But they have nothing to do with the camera event. Camera event is taking pictures of the area and they aren't even in the pictures. Even what they are talking about has nothing to do with what you have to do there. If it's because of the camera event it's not tied together well at all because it seems like a different thing altogether.

I found out that they moved to just outside the forest today with the next camera event so maybe it's tied to the camera event even if they say nothing about the camera event or are even in it. super agree with your comment on not tanking everything since it would just take the fun away,. i use Zhongli with a sub-dps build too since his burst hits pretty decent why not use it 😆😆
Seems like she’ll be good in Morgana teams, fridge teams, and Ayato freeze. We’ll probably get another dps soon that uses their elemental skill a lot and works well with her, although I don’t understand the trend of making so many of these new four-stars deal such pathetic damage. I know she’s a support, but I just don’t get why they’d build half her kit to deal damage and then give her both split scaling and really low multipliers.
Zhongli has a geo shield, it absorbs all elemental damage better (150%) but also physical damage better (150%). Most enemies do physical damage. That's why it's so much stronger. Layla shield will probably be better for cryo enemies (250% absorption) but we don't have to many cryo enemies...
One mistake u do, Def on the character also determine how much dmg shield take, So Same shield on let say Klee break faster then on Itto, so u will need to use Dong shield then switch to LAYLA
Just remember that Pyro will shred through her shield like paper. Otherwise, she's not too bad as a dedicated Shielder with a bit of Cryo application. I personally prefer Diona for her well-rounded utility, though.
To be fair she is the best 4 star shielder. Especially if you build her like one. Plus yea zhongli has the strong shield. That's because he's an archon. Archons are meant to be broken
I think she's pretty decent. Definitely comparable to Thoma, who is a good character now with Nahida. I'm guessing Layla's real potential will be unlocked with the hydro archon. Only problem I have with her is the shield duration, not absorption wise, but the actually time it lasts before going away
I would say that layla is the best 4 star released in a long time . situationally can be the best shield for the team. For my account I was happy to get a non healing non geo shielder with a good enough shield to use. And one of the few good users for tenacity
imo best teams for layla is reverse metl ganyu and morgana but layla instead of diona (not good for this abyss since the black serpents don't like shielders )
I think she might be a good generalist bc or a year without zhongli I had diona 3rd slot in a hutao team, itto team, ayaka team and xiao team layla probably works in most of them but probably not a ganyu melt bc her app would steal from ganyu But then again diona can heal
in term of shield...she is the sexond best after zhongli..forget thoma...no one have the time to stack the shield...layla level 10 talent hp build with sac sword can hold a little better than diona full hp build with hp bow..oh and my diona is c6..so in terms of shield..she is second best...in other things maybe not so much..
I can't even get Layla. I was half expecting to wish for 80 pulls to get Yae, but got her in 30 pulls and proceed to wish for Childe to get Layla and got Jean in the first 10 pulls instead. And still no Layla. WTF Mihoyo!
Her shield is the second strongest in the game and to be honest she is a really good Zhongli replacement for the unlucky/new players or that players that didn't want Zhongli
Funny how I'm still watching after i uninstalled genshin yesterday Yeah it just came to me that i did not start playing the game for characters or for farming the stupid artifacts or whatever, it was for the story and well lately it didn't feel like that was reason i was logging in everyday. To put it simply, it felt like a chore to even log in. So well goodbye genshin from me and I'm probably never going to return

@@bright43 Assuming similar artifacts, Noelle's shield will (almost) always be stronger because it's a Geo shield (The shield has a 150% DMG Absorption effectiveness against all Elemental and Physical DMG.). The only exception would be vs Cryo enemies only, where a Cryo shield has 250% effectiveness.

Noelle has a stronger shield. The only problem is the CD. You can't have 100% uptime with Noelle, unless you keep attacking with her, which makes it not very viable.
i really feel like the character trials should have optional extra stages where you try them at each constellation so you know what you want to pull for
i dont care for that tbh, i just wish they let you decide between a normal test run and using your own characters. what if i wanna try layla with ganyu to see how they run together before i invest a ton of resin into my layla? of course having a test run with trial characters is nice for early players with unbuilt units but it makes it tough to play and see how they would actually work, especially if they have a signature support or they are a signature support
i think an option to choose a team for a trial character would be better bc often trials don't do support characters justice, but that would be too much for hoyo lol
Cryo not reacting with dendro is actually a really good thing, because that fact is what allows fridge comps to be possible. Damaging enemies with dendro cores while they're also frozen, and thus not able to move away from where the cores were generated.
freeze comps aren't that good. they're usable, but they're not good enough to where you could say they are the reason why cryo and dendro not reacting is "a really good thing" edit: i meant to say fridge comps, not freeze
Makes sense. There’s Archons so far that excel at something. Venti = Crowd Control/Swirl Zhongli = Shield Raiden = ER Nahida = EM Bennett = Healing/Buffing/Infusion
If they ever release another 5* shielder, they would need to consider their kit carefully. Something they can do differently from Zhongli and all that.
If they ever released another shielder they would most likely be weaker than Zhongli but maybe have some other ability e.g team buffs. They already said they don't want any powercreep so we shouldn't expect anyone stronger for a long time.
I wanted Layla C1 but got Thoma, Thoma, Thoma and oh Thoma with a side of Layla until I reached my 50/50 and got Childe 🥰. Not complaining since I got my 5* but Thoma could have been a little less eager imo 🙄

I don't think its fair to ever compare shield strength with Zhongli because 1. He's a 5* rarity unit with broken shield stats as it is 2. Layla has 4* capabilities that never really rival 5* period (except for the 4 starter 4* at the beginning of the game 3. I guess it would make more sense to compare it with Diona's shield instead
I just can't think of any character beating Zhongli's shield (unless power creep…), he has 150% DMG absorption against everything bc Geo and lowers enemies RES. And Diona… there are pros and cons when it is about their whole kits, but Layla's shield is stronger.
As far as 3 goes, I think it is fair to compare her to Zhongli, as her main use will be filling his slot, for those of us that don't have him. So knowing how she stacks up is worthwhile. As far as the four stars she competes with, Diona is definitely one, since they are both cryo and shielders. The other one she'll compare with is Thoma. Admittedly, not the most used four star, but I do think her kit is overall better than his (ignoring his Burgeon team niche).
I still prefer Diona against Layla mainly because Diona heals, her shield is very strong and is an excellent battery + her cons make her burst uptime really easy
I prefer Diona too, and her being a pretty old character compared to others means that the majority has her cons. Her c6 con (buffs teamates with over 70% hp with em) is pretty viable with all these em based characters recently if you don’t have a better em buffer like Nahida
I feel like Layla would be an incredible support for Razor. One of the things he really needs to be able to shine is someone to help him consistently apply off-field Cryo damage to enable Superconducts for his Physical damage, and until now all of his options for that had some kinda downside to them. Rosaria and Diona's off-field Cryo application is confined to specific areas. Qiqi's follows you around and heals, but doesn't generate energy for your team. Kaeya's also follows you around, but... his constellations. Layla's Cryo application follows you around, lasts for a long time AND comes with a shield to protect Razor while his Burst is up. She sounds like his best option so far for a Superconduct enabler.
Hey Moga, love the video as per usual. I have a recommendation for a Layla comp though. The concept is a Yoimiya melt vape comp. As you correctly observed, pyro triggered melt isnt widely used due to the underlying systems of the game; as shown by elemental gage theory, pyro strips of cryo aura incredibly quick. The short of it being, you need a lot more cryo to keep melting pyro attacks than you need hydro to vape pyro attacks. An important note to this is that their are different damage modifiers at play here. When pyro vapes it is granted a base 1.5x damage boost, when it melts, it gets a 2x damage boost. The idea of the Yoimiya melt vape would take advantage of two things: 1. Yoimiya has a long ICD making it so she can only react her first, third, and last normal attack. 2. Vape will be there to maintain consistency while melt will give you some occasional extra powerful hits. Another side note, is Zhongli res shred is often not used by Yoimiya due to the short range it has two conditions that need to be met, the shield has to be up and the enemies have to be close. According to Keqing mains website, the range is about 3 abyss tiles if looking at the tiles on the lower floors. A team for this would look like: Yoimiya, Yelan/Xingqiu, Layla, Bennett. Yelan would start and use her skill and ult, followed by Layla doing the same, Bennett using ult, and Yoimiya doing her normal thing. This comp has promise for multiple reasons, that aren't limited to: 1. Shield. Not as strong as Zhongli, but since you won't feel bad for going all in on it due to her low personal damage(unlike Zhongli where you have to pick) it does have promise. 2. Freeze, enemies will occasionally get frozen which will help out the shield. 3. Hydro and Cryo won't steal reactions from Yoimiya; since the result of their reaction is a frozen enemy, those two reacting without Yoimiya will grant a guaranteed melt hit for Yoi. 4. At C4 Layla, Yoimiya would get a normal attack buff that scales of Layla's HP which on top of providing tenacity buff and occasional melts, she could easily join Yoimiya's nice long list of good support options. I hope this helps someone and I hope you give it a shot Moga, the freeze may be inconsistent at times, but think of it as a double crit when it happens. Doing this domain myself, I was able to have Yoimiya land a hit on midnight Masanori for 182k, though it was with Diona and not Layla. Layla should make it work way better since she has ranges application. Keep up the good content, I'll be looking forward to your next one. Sorry for the long response, there was a lot to cover on the how's and why's.

ive actually been using a yoimiya melt vape comp ever since i got yoimiya and put her as a filler on my main team, accidentally found out and its pretty great though i use a different team comp: ganyu, yoimiya, venti and yelan. yelan starts doing her skill and ult, then ganyu uses her ult, then venti uses his ult and yoimiya uses E and starts attacking the thing about my team comp though, is that even after the ults end you can keep going: use yoimiya ult, then switch to ganyu and do charged attacks mine has only limited 5*s, but you can easily replace venti for sucrose (or bennett if single target) and yelan for xingqiu
@@yamaatsuimiihu sounds solid, I don't have Venti unfortunately. My go to for melt vape has long been Yoimiya, Yelan Elegy, Diona C6, Bennett C6. This team gives a crap ton of EM to Yoi and really helps her hit hard. You can see it in practice if you check out the sole video on my channel where I landed that 182k on midnight Masanori. It's fun, but if enemies leave the circle you no longer get melts. This was my hope for Layla is that she'll get rid of circle impact and let me set up camp in Bennett's AoE and go to town on the enemies. Yoimiya us one of my absolute favorites, her versatility in team comps and extensive list of supports is just about unrivaled in the game. One of the only pyros who dont get punished by overcharged and the only bow that can juggle makes for a hilarious combo
I use Layla in my non-ganyu, childe ganyu comp and it works really well. she provides a solid shield and her burst can provide a pretty consistent perma freeze if your paying attention. throw in a benny and sucrose and you have a pretty good discount freeze team

That's the entire reason I pulled for her lol. I've been running her in Heizou freeze teams to kinda get used to the rotations and it's insanely fun

I think hyv introducing new characters that are mainly sidegrades of current characters is really bound to happen. After all, there hasn't been much changes in the combat system aside from the introduction of the last element. So players would then just choose according to their preferences. We've kinda seen this before with Kaeya and Rosaria (husbando v waifu), Heizou and Sucrose, and now Diona and Layla. Also C0 5* vs C6 4* too like Yelan XQ, and Yae Fischl if you think abt it.
i wouldnt really compare heizou and sucrose, they can both be drivers but otherwise dont have much in common, but i do agree with everything else. i personally like sidegrades and small changes to a kit, it lets me build characters i like and not just characters i need
Use her as your flex in your non-nilou bloom teams (including hyperbloom and burgeon). The cryo lets you get more blooms. Also works pretty well in teams that use both yelan and xingqui like Hutao and Yelan vape - the hydro res gives her bonus HP and makes her shield stronger.
I’ve been using Layla in Ayaka freeze instead of Diona and tbh, I’ve been having so much fun! I can’t quite pin point why, but applying cryo with her burst or shield and then swirling with Kazuha is more enjoyable than doing it with Diona. Not to mention that her shield is definitely stronger and you can have 100% uptime (i know with Diona is possible with sacrificial bow)

Layla is now my new meta shielder for AR 25 abyss 9-12 clears. :D Helps a ton to have her along with Zhongli. I have c6 Diona, c6 Thoma, c6 Noelle and c4 Yanfei (tankfei) and Layla is by far the best one at keeping your team alive.

I feel like she is overlooked, Jade Cutter + C4 makes her a strong dps (Increases dmg of basic dmg by 5% of herself and teammates) and jade cutter gives HP + She gets more dmg based off her hp. Jade Cutter helps with scaling abilities and giving her the high strong attack for being a main. Just put her with double HP, use jade cutter (r2 is best) and she can be easy to use and build
I've built my Hu Tao team with Yelan, Xingqiu, and Layla. Hu Tao, Yelan, and Layla's kits all scale from Max HP, so adding a second hydro character to get the HP boost from resonance makes them all much more powerful. Xingqiu has 4pc Noblesse and Layla has 4pc Tenacity, supplying lots of ATK buff. Layla's shield is very strong and applies cryo, so with Hu Tao's skill/burst I'm basically doing constant vape/melts. Very high damage team with practically 100% uptime on Layla's shield.
I got Layla to C6, lvl 80/80, and 1/11/10 and I kinda have similar mixed feelings about her like she’s alright though there are a few things I noticed while testing her out.
One is that when she doesn’t have her burst up, the pace at which she generates stars on her shield can be a little irregular unless you micromanage your rotations and skill casts which does affect the tenacity buff by a small margin. She seems better fit for quickswap team comps with frequent skill casts to maximize her star generation and subsequent buffs rather than a main dps with significant field time.
Another thing is about her uptime which technically CAN be 100% but I’ve found that in a lot of rotations her shield drops at conveniently bad times whereas Zhongli’s shield duration overlaps, Thoma’s refreshing shield has nearly infinite uptime if built properly, and Diona has healing to fill in the gaps. I still think her shield is strong but similarly with Thoma it’s more effective in certain team comps than others but I do find myself having to consider her team comps and rotation order more than like Thoma or Zhongli.

or when using yanfei+sacrificial fragments as a nuke for frozen enemies
Think you hit the nail on the head. She's great for character that really need a shield to perform (ganyu and yoimiya) and the zhongli shield is overkill. It'd probably say she's a better match for ganyu due to cyro resonance (with yoimiya I usually run yun jin + zhongli for geo resonance). But in both cases, there are times where you'd be happy to sacrifice a bit of shield strength for the cryo application. She also takes less field time than zhongli since you have to use hold skill and his burst takes a fair amount of time in animation lock. Probably not as good as zhongli, but she's 4* and sometimes you care more about waifu > meta
I don’t have her in triple hp either. She has a crit dmg % circlet and honestly her shield has last so much. Lasts until it runs out and keeps my other characters alive. And I just got her to c6. I’m still going to farm and get better artifacts for her. I also don’t have Zhongli so she’s the next best thing.
She seems to be fine on a Razor team, you don't need huge amonts of damage from the other cryo character, just the application of cryo for super conduct
You should try a fridge comp Moga, believe it or not but cryo does work well with dendro, just not directly. The way the freeze element works makes you able to still add hydro and create blooms at the same time as the enemies being frozen. So they just stand there while everthing explodes. Hydro dendro and cryo is needed. ( not hyperbloom or burgeon )
What's up with Hoyoverse and making ridiculously cool normal attacks for characters who don't use them.
Or rather, on characters where using their normals would do more harm than good in the teams they shine the most in.

My friendship team rn is yae albedo nahida and layla, and I’ve called it my afk team. As a meta slave it’s not the best when it comes to overall damage and ttk but it’s quite fun just putting yae albedo and nahidas skill down and just chilling in Layla’s shield animation 😂

I am currently enjoying Dps kyea freeze, with yelan and water boy with nealu. Kyea is on aquilla with blizzard, fav yelan, sac water boy for fast star procs, and triple hp tenacity nealu with jade cutter. She only does about 2k per star and 5k with her ult tic, but it feels nice. With jade and hydro res her shield is my second strongest. What little damage it doesn’t block heals back soon with rain swords.

Even what they are talking about has nothing to do with what you have to do there. If it's because of the camera event it's not tied together well at all because it seems like a different thing altogether.

Seems like she’ll be good in Morgana teams, fridge teams, and Ayato freeze. We’ll probably get another dps soon that uses their elemental skill a lot and works well with her, although I don’t understand the trend of making so many of these new four-stars deal such pathetic damage. I know she’s a support, but I just don’t get why they’d build half her kit to deal damage and then give her both split scaling and really low multipliers.
Layla can work really good in a melt team with Yoimya and Hutao as well since shes kinda like a cryo Xinqiu albeit more weak

Zhongli has a geo shield, it absorbs all elemental damage better (150%) but also physical damage better (150%). Most enemies do physical damage. That's why it's so much stronger. Layla shield will probably be better for cryo enemies (250% absorption) but we don't have to many cryo enemies...
One mistake u do, Def on the character also determine how much dmg shield take, So Same shield on let say Klee break faster then on Itto, so u will need to use Dong shield then switch to LAYLA
Just remember that Pyro will shred through her shield like paper. Otherwise, she's not too bad as a dedicated Shielder with a bit of Cryo application. I personally prefer Diona for her well-rounded utility, though.
My perfect team with layla is Yelan, Xingqiu, Hutao, Layla.
One day we'll get a shield HP bar similar on our HP bars (kinda like the fatui shield bar)

actually nahida brought melt comps to life again because with burning the pyro aura lasts longer, try ganyu/ayaka zhongli bennett nahida
I think she's pretty decent. Definitely comparable to Thoma, who is a good character now with Nahida. I'm guessing Layla's real potential will be unlocked with the hydro archon.
Only problem I have with her is the shield duration, not absorption wise, but the actually time it lasts before going away
I would say that layla is the best 4 star released in a long time . situationally can be the best shield for the team. For my account I was happy to get a non healing non geo shielder with a good enough shield to use. And one of the few good users for tenacity

Yeah it just came to me that i did not start playing the game for characters or for farming the stupid artifacts or whatever, it was for the story and well lately it didn't feel like that was reason i was logging in everyday.
To put it simply, it felt like a chore to even log in.

@@bright43 Assuming similar artifacts, Noelle's shield will (almost) always be stronger because it's a Geo shield (The shield has a 150% DMG Absorption effectiveness against all Elemental and Physical DMG.). The only exception would be vs Cryo enemies only, where a Cryo shield has 250% effectiveness.
All these sumeru 4 stars are lacking, there hasn't been a single one that I felt had actual value in a team

Noelle has a stronger shield. The only problem is the CD. You can't have 100% uptime with Noelle, unless you keep attacking with her, which makes it not very viable.

i dont care for that tbh, i just wish they let you decide between a normal test run and using your own characters. what if i wanna try layla with ganyu to see how they run together before i invest a ton of resin into my layla? of course having a test run with trial characters is nice for early players with unbuilt units but it makes it tough to play and see how they would actually work, especially if they have a signature support or they are a signature support
i think an option to choose a team for a trial character would be better bc often trials don't do support characters justice, but that would be too much for hoyo lol

Cryo not reacting with dendro is actually a really good thing, because that fact is what allows fridge comps to be possible. Damaging enemies with dendro cores while they're also frozen, and thus not able to move away from where the cores were generated.

freeze comps aren't that good. they're usable, but they're not good enough to where you could say they are the reason why cryo and dendro not reacting is "a really good thing"

Venti = Crowd Control/Swirl
Zhongli = Shield
Raiden = ER
Nahida = EM
Bennett = Healing/Buffing/Infusion
If they ever release another 5* shielder, they would need to consider their kit carefully. Something they can do differently from Zhongli and all that.
If they ever released another shielder they would most likely be weaker than Zhongli but maybe have some other ability e.g team buffs. They already said they don't want any powercreep so we shouldn't expect anyone stronger for a long time.

I don't think its fair to ever compare shield strength with Zhongli because
1. He's a 5* rarity unit with broken shield stats as it is
2. Layla has 4* capabilities that never really rival 5* period (except for the 4 starter 4* at the beginning of the game
3. I guess it would make more sense to compare it with Diona's shield instead
also he had her on a mixed build (with hp% cryo dmg and crit dmg instead of triple hp%)
Also hs Zhongli's shield is lvl 9 whereas Layla's shield is lvl 6. That ain't a good comparison
I just can't think of any character beating Zhongli's shield (unless power creep…), he has 150% DMG absorption against everything bc Geo and lowers enemies RES.
And Diona… there are pros and cons when it is about their whole kits, but Layla's shield is stronger.

As far as 3 goes, I think it is fair to compare her to Zhongli, as her main use will be filling his slot, for those of us that don't have him. So knowing how she stacks up is worthwhile. As far as the four stars she competes with, Diona is definitely one, since they are both cryo and shielders. The other one she'll compare with is Thoma. Admittedly, not the most used four star, but I do think her kit is overall better than his (ignoring his Burgeon team niche).
I still prefer Diona against Layla mainly because Diona heals, her shield is very strong and is an excellent battery + her cons make her burst uptime really easy
I prefer Diona too, and her being a pretty old character compared to others means that the majority has her cons. Her c6 con (buffs teamates with over 70% hp with em) is pretty viable with all these em based characters recently if you don’t have a better em buffer like Nahida
Layla's shield is stronger though, and she has a 100% uptime.
But still with that… some teams like Diona C6 more.

I feel like Layla would be an incredible support for Razor.
One of the things he really needs to be able to shine is someone to help him consistently apply off-field Cryo damage to enable Superconducts for his Physical damage, and until now all of his options for that had some kinda downside to them.
Rosaria and Diona's off-field Cryo application is confined to specific areas. Qiqi's follows you around and heals, but doesn't generate energy for your team. Kaeya's also follows you around, but... his constellations.
Layla's Cryo application follows you around, lasts for a long time AND comes with a shield to protect Razor while his Burst is up. She sounds like his best option so far for a Superconduct enabler.
Hey Moga, love the video as per usual. I have a recommendation for a Layla comp though.
The concept is a Yoimiya melt vape comp. As you correctly observed, pyro triggered melt isnt widely used due to the underlying systems of the game; as shown by elemental gage theory, pyro strips of cryo aura incredibly quick. The short of it being, you need a lot more cryo to keep melting pyro attacks than you need hydro to vape pyro attacks. An important note to this is that their are different damage modifiers at play here. When pyro vapes it is granted a base 1.5x damage boost, when it melts, it gets a 2x damage boost.
The idea of the Yoimiya melt vape would take advantage of two things: 1. Yoimiya has a long ICD making it so she can only react her first, third, and last normal attack. 2. Vape will be there to maintain consistency while melt will give you some occasional extra powerful hits. Another side note, is Zhongli res shred is often not used by Yoimiya due to the short range it has two conditions that need to be met, the shield has to be up and the enemies have to be close. According to Keqing mains website, the range is about 3 abyss tiles if looking at the tiles on the lower floors.
A team for this would look like: Yoimiya, Yelan/Xingqiu, Layla, Bennett.
Yelan would start and use her skill and ult, followed by Layla doing the same, Bennett using ult, and Yoimiya doing her normal thing. This comp has promise for multiple reasons, that aren't limited to: 1. Shield. Not as strong as Zhongli, but since you won't feel bad for going all in on it due to her low personal damage(unlike Zhongli where you have to pick) it does have promise. 2. Freeze, enemies will occasionally get frozen which will help out the shield. 3. Hydro and Cryo won't steal reactions from Yoimiya; since the result of their reaction is a frozen enemy, those two reacting without Yoimiya will grant a guaranteed melt hit for Yoi. 4. At C4 Layla, Yoimiya would get a normal attack buff that scales of Layla's HP which on top of providing tenacity buff and occasional melts, she could easily join Yoimiya's nice long list of good support options.
I hope this helps someone and I hope you give it a shot Moga, the freeze may be inconsistent at times, but think of it as a double crit when it happens. Doing this domain myself, I was able to have Yoimiya land a hit on midnight Masanori for 182k, though it was with Diona and not Layla. Layla should make it work way better since she has ranges application.

ive actually been using a yoimiya melt vape comp ever since i got yoimiya and put her as a filler on my main team, accidentally found out and its pretty great
though i use a different team comp: ganyu, yoimiya, venti and yelan.
yelan starts doing her skill and ult, then ganyu uses her ult, then venti uses his ult and yoimiya uses E and starts attacking
the thing about my team comp though, is that even after the ults end you can keep going: use yoimiya ult, then switch to ganyu and do charged attacks
mine has only limited 5*s, but you can easily replace venti for sucrose (or bennett if single target) and yelan for xingqiu
@@yamaatsuimiihu sounds solid, I don't have Venti unfortunately. My go to for melt vape has long been Yoimiya, Yelan Elegy, Diona C6, Bennett C6. This team gives a crap ton of EM to Yoi and really helps her hit hard. You can see it in practice if you check out the sole video on my channel where I landed that 182k on midnight Masanori. It's fun, but if enemies leave the circle you no longer get melts. This was my hope for Layla is that she'll get rid of circle impact and let me set up camp in Bennett's AoE and go to town on the enemies.
Yoimiya us one of my absolute favorites, her versatility in team comps and extensive list of supports is just about unrivaled in the game. One of the only pyros who dont get punished by overcharged and the only bow that can juggle makes for a hilarious combo

I use Layla in my non-ganyu, childe ganyu comp and it works really well. she provides a solid shield and her burst can provide a pretty consistent perma freeze if your paying attention. throw in a benny and sucrose and you have a pretty good discount freeze team

She's a great sheilder option if you dont have zhongli or diona, and in terms of sheilding, beats diona!!
Though Diona has heals and EM buff (at C6). She's also cute as heck 😆 They are both good options depending on your setup
