Can this jump starter start my dead truck? NOCO BOOST GB50 test / review // RAM 1500

  • It's test & review time for one of my new favorite tools! Today we're taking a look at the NOCO BOOST GB50, 1500 XL jump starter pack. Is it the best jump starter box? It packs a wallop, at least on the spec sheet - let's see how it holds up against my 2019 RAM 1500 Limited with the 5.7 liter HEMI eTorque engine - and a dead battery!
    If you want to buy one, and after using it, I recommend it, use my Amazon Affiliate link to buy it and help out the channel - at no extra cost to you!

    The hard case can be bought here: amzn.to/48QWcbG
    We'll be putting it through its paces, but along the way I'll do a quick unboxing to show you what it comes with, the hard case I ordered for it, and the other features it has. And when I say we're going to put it through its paces, I mean several tests of it, trying to start my dead battery - 2.6 volts!

    I have a jump box. I used it at Sturgis to charge my phone and Sena camera. I also used it to jump start my wife's mustang.

      oh wow, yeah, holy crow - I can use this thing to charge my camera batteries on the go - I hadn't even THOUGHT of that - THANKS! And then I can charge it up at a hotel room or something.

    I have one of those boost packs. Didn't know about the hard case going to have to get me one of those. Your battery drain could be from a bad TIPM they are not cheap, but very common issue.

    • @RoadReality
      @RoadReality  5 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      Yeah, my wife thought the case is silly, but I'd rather protect this thing!
      And, it could be the TIPM - but it's so intermittent that it's far cheaper to carry this thing around with me just in case :D
      From the forums, it looks like the power running board control module might have a scenario or two where it stays on, which lines up with my truck going dead... time will tell.

    i really like the case,
    So funny story, in January this year my cvo was dead and saved by a friends noco GB70, so before i got on my bike to return it, i ordered one to keep on my bike and didn't realize i bought GB150 😂, so i got a GB75 to carry on the bike and i put the 150 in the truck

    • @RoadReality
      @RoadReality  5 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      Dang, man! That's the big boy right there! The 40 is enough for most cars, 50 for most trucks, and anything over that can start that Caterpillar heavy-duty dump truck parked in the construction lot that you eye on your way home from work every day, and wonder if you could start and drive around!
      Do you also have the tools to take the seat off so you can get to the CVO's battery? That's a job I haven't done in a while, or ever, on my bike, LOL.

    • @Setzerpendence
      @Setzerpendence 5 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      @@RoadReality I do have the tools, it's just one bolt, but what I also learned when the CVO was dead was that the starter was all I needed to hook the noco up to

    • @RoadReality
      @RoadReality  5 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      @@Setzerpendence Oh, interesting - is that the part that hangs down between the cylinders on the left-hand side?
      I kid, I kid - that's the flux capacitor, I KNOW that. :D
      So neat that you can hook up to just the starter and fire her up - I wouldn't think that'd work!

    • @Setzerpendence
      @Setzerpendence 5 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      @@RoadReality I'm kinda embarrassed I didn't think of it, your basically just replacing the battery as far as the starter is concerned (no, not actually removing anything)

    • @RoadReality
      @RoadReality  5 หลายเดือนก่อน

      @@Setzerpendence Yeah, good point! Once it gets going again, the alternator/stator should power the bike back up. So long as you get a good ground, it shouldn't cause any issues.

    The craziest way I have seen someone jump start another vehicle was in Afghanistan. Both individuals did not have jumper cables, but they did have tools. The vehicle with the good battery removed their battery and then flipped the battery upside down on top of the dead battery touching the terminals to each other, and proceeded to crank it over. The vehicle started, and I learned a different way to jump start a vehicle. I believe the battery that was flipped was the non leaking kind, because it did not leak...

    I worked on Land Rover vehicles for years, and you'd be amazed how many issues are caused by a battery. Computers are so sensitive to the battery state of charge and amperage. Makes me nervous to see the American vehicles made to such a complex standard nowadays.
    Seeing mechanics work on new stuff today is like watching a monkey reason with a football.

    • @RoadReality
      @RoadReality  5 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      That last statement had me ROLLING! :D
      But yeah, computers are finicky about the power they get, and automotive computers have to be hardened somewhat, so it's a crap shoot as to what goes wrong in a car these days. SMH

    I like the idea of a booster but damn they take up a lot of storage and I really wish they had a pig tail adapter for Harley's

    • @RoadReality
      @RoadReality  5 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Yeah, they DO take up storage, no way around it... but the pigtail thing is probably down to amps. I assume you meant to plug into the factory SAE plug that sticks out of the left side cover? That thing is on a 15 or 20A circuit, and these things can send out a lot of juice.
      Setzerpendence said he found out recently that you just need to jump the starter on these bikes... so no need to access the battery directly, lol.
