    5 or 6 yrs ago I did extensive research for a good generator and transfer switch, Westinghouse was the one I also picked. Life happened and I never bought them. You re-kindled my interest and I am now thinking about all this again. Good video, thanks.

    I recently purchased the 2021, Westinghouse WGen7500 DF (Dual Fuel). It is real nice. Starts easy, runs smooth and has plenty of power to handle all of my needs. Its nice to have the option of what type of fuel I want to run. Nice job on the review. I am very happy with this generator and I like the attention to detail and quality.

    I just watched your video and found a great deal on this same Generator Delivered to my home for free. I will use Manual Transfer Switch and the remote control I think. Great price and value for the money. I made the mistake of buying a smaller manual start Generator and had 4 feet of Snow and a power outage. I was just in the hospital and shoveling a path to go find the gen set, Did a place to put it and then run a wire back to run what i needed will be eliminated when I hook this up and have it wired in correctly. Watching you install a Manual Transfer Switch in your sisters house. Great videos ! Thank you.

    only problem with these gens that start with the remote fob is that you have to leave the on off switch to the on position all the time for it to run but that runs down your battery if its just sitting for a long time with the switch in the on position so you need to have the trickle charger on it. also they are hard to wire to a remote start from a transfer switch or solar inverter that can start a generator to charge the batteries.

  • @jonathanmaddock6824
    @jonathanmaddock6824 4 ปีที่แล้ว +6

    Yes, you DO have to trudge out in the snow to flick the rocker switch from stop to start. Then the fob will work.
    If you leave the switch on start all the time, the battery will be depleted.
    It's NOT remote start, unless you don't have to visit the generator first.

      I added a 9.00 12v remote relay to the power line on the on switch. Extra remote but you dont have to go outside and flip the on switch. Relays on ebay.

    From Nova Scotia Great video!
    I agree Westinghouse makes the best generator.
    Couldn’t get the one I wanted so I bought a 8000/10000 Firman that seems to work well. Also, for some reason I did not know I could plug in my battery tender (same as yours) that way.
    Thanks very much !!

    If you are considering using Westinghouse generators for sump pumps, beware of the Smart Idle feature (don't buy a model with it). It will prevent the sump pump from starting correctly, as it idles down in between pumping cycles, lowering the usable amps. This is something I've taken up with Westinghouse, but their answer is "too bad, too sad." I now own a $1,100 paperweight.

    • @nodak81
      @nodak81 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I don't know how it's set up but if it uses a solenoid to pull the throttle down, then you can probably just unplug that solenoid to prevent it from idling.

    I have the Westinghouse IGEN4500DF for my toy hauler. IMHO the remote is useless. You must have the power (rocker) switch in the "on" position for the remote to work and I spoke with a Westinghouse tech that said Westinghouse does not recommend leaving the rocker switch in the "on" position when the generator is not running. It's a flashy feature on paper, but if your camping and have to get up in the morning to flip the switch....you might as well push the start button.

    .1:32 with an Easy Start Micro Air 368 soft start, you can. Because a 4 ton AC requires 70Amps to kick in, and the easy start reduces it to about 40 Amps, and then it sustains a 4,000 running watts while running. This gen easily can handle that load. No?

    I have the electric start Westinghouse Dual Fuel 6600/5300 generator and I bought one of those Battery Tenders but it will not charge the battery because it is a Li-ion battery. Keep in mind that you must keep your generator in an "ON" configuration for the remote to work. When it's left in an "ON" position....you are definitely using a bit of Battery to keep the Generator in a "Ready To Start" state. So, I wouldn't leave it like that as a rule....but if there is a threat of weather that might knock out power......I would put the Generator to that Ready To Start. state..."ON" ..... so I could remote start it if need be.

    so yeah it starts but hoe can the power switch to send the power to the house be flipped on without going out into the snow without an auto transfer switch? still gotta go out in the snow and flip the power out switch on???

      many transfer switches are now mounted next to the main panel in the basement. but yeah, if its outside, you have to go outside. :)

    How long does the generator battery last?

    • @gardenfork
      @gardenfork  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      There is a trickle charger that comes with the gen to keep the battery charged.

    Any issues remote starting the generator with transfer switch load on it? Everything I see says to start and stop your generator without load. So how does remote starting work if you need to flip the breaker or plug the cord in at the generator? Anybody have any thoughts or advice?

    • @D70340
      @D70340 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      NEVER EVER start a portable generator with a load on it.... ALWAYS start the generator first without ANY load so that it can warm up.

    How much of battery drain happens if run switch is left on

    • @D70340
      @D70340 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      It drains pretty quickly.... some reports say a day or two, other reports i`ve read said a week at the most.
      Best thing to do is, leave a battery tender plugged into the battery 24/7, its not an issue.

    I would like to know if anyone can tell me if the generator will still start if the generator power was not connected to the Switch. I would like to use the switch as a auto start only. I have a generlink transfer switch on my meter and I am hoping I can use the 30 amp plug to power it rather than powering the st switch. In theroy I would hope the switch would sense when grid power is out and automatically start generator powering my generlink. Any comments?

    Why don’t you just tell us how to start it from start to finish? Also, what’s the brain breaker switch for? Does that need to be on before you start it

    Trickle charger negates ability of generator being on standby. I'm disabled and can't trudge outside in a snow or ice storm to remove the trickle charger and start the generator

    • @gardenfork
      @gardenfork  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hi Johnathan i have issues with ice and snow myself, we have to be careful. I don’t think I said this was a standby generator, as true standby gens are $$. But the remote sure does help once you’ve got the gen hooked up during a power outage. Good Luck, Eric.

      @@gardenfork I think I figured a way out. The rocker switch for start/stop can be wired into a switch in my house.
      I'm having an electrician stop by and give me a quote on a service disconnect automatic transfer switch. I get his opinion before I do anything.
      An aside: my generator was taking three tries to start when it was cold. I replaced the spark plug with an E3 plug. Now it always starts on the first try. I'm really happy about that.

    • @jonathanmaddock6824
      @jonathanmaddock6824 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I did it. I ran wires from the generator's Run/Stop switch, in parallel, to another rocker switch in my house. I also ran a circuit interrupt for my trickle charger (12V side).
      It worked! I don't have to go outside to start 'er up. I can disconnect the trickle charger, enable the run rocker, and use the remote key fob to start the engine.
      Of course, this no doubts cancels the warranty. Too bad, but I now have what I need.

      No, this one in the video is NOT a dual fuel.

    I'm already thinking of ways I could immediately void the warranty on that transfer switch, like modifying it to utilize the 240v that's already inside it.
