    Good morning Merce. I have some business to do about 2 hours away. I will be leaving here at 11 a.m. . But I will have my iPad in the passenger seat watching your program. And I will also have my guitar. So if this requires immediate interaction with your video, I will have to scoot to the passenger seat and drive with my foot. So if I ask silly questions it will be because I am distracted with driving. Looking forward to it. ;-)

      hahahaha epic! I have done also some road trips like this, but I use a frame guitar, is very handy to accommodate within the car space... LOL! Looking forward to your silly questions and enjoy the video!! going live in just a bit ::)

    Bummer.....missed this "live". Love that you go over stuff like this. Even though one might play and do this stuff seemingly intuitively or naturally after a time......it really helps to know how and why it works....to refresh ones understanding.....sometimes it gets lost....for me anyhow. Happy New Year Merce! Yet another timely lesson, as my teacher and I were just reviewing the CAGED system (only as 1 way to look at some shapes, among others we'll look at later). But I loved the way you brought in the minor chords and then transitioned them to the A shape by raising the minor third a half step. Great intro to shapes!

    For tip #3, I just barre the index finger and ring finger, kind of like how George Harrison does it.

    • @MerceFont
      @MerceFont  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      yes, many different types of fingering can be used as well, I kept it the same fingering to allow people to pay more attention to the system rather than the fingering options. There are several possibilities as well doing 'mini barre' with the 2nd and 4th as well. That's up to each player :)

    Merce , I have folk guitar and I want to play electric in the future, I love finger style and percussion, I decided to follow classical advice because I believe it's the best way to use basic techniques. Do you think, I am wasting time to begin classical (using folk) ? I also want to play some classical pieces on folk

    • @MerceFont
      @MerceFont  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Hi Ramy! Good question. Well it depends if you can select the information from the 'classical guitar' that suits more your folk style. You can indeed take a lot of good advise for hand positioning, theory, fingering choices (left and right hand), rhythm, polyrhythms, etc... but depending on the type of songs you play, you might not need some of the stuff we enter in huge detail like for instance: sound quality (if you play an acoustic or electric guitar, with metal strings, you won't approach it the same way as classical guitar), style characteristics, common music forms within your genre, etc..
      You'll have to be smart and choose what will help you. An easy example: Classical guitarist often take flamenco exercises (eg. rasgueados, which are all this strumming patterns using many right hand finger variations) to train the muscles of the hand and power. Sometimes we also play arrangements that come more from folk music or jazz so that one gets different left hand grips (we have great composers and arrangers in the classical guitar!). All this enriches your capabilities but of course, one takes only what will be helpful for your music, not that you have to become a flamenco guitarist or jazz. They are very different worlds and they all require lots of years, training and talent to get great at one of them.
      Hope my answer was helpful!

    Can I say Merce that occasionally you speak too fast for me. I know that pacing is tricky but if a student is uncertain what it is you are explaining then the teacher needs to slow down. Obviously you are teaching via video to many people but having watched previous videos of yours (which I find generally excellent) I note that you go too quickly, for me at least. Maybe something to consider.

    • @MerceFont
