  • About time a played with the heavier slugs. The 30gr H&N is on the radar today, shooting them initially at 50m to obtain accuracy levels at different speeds ans then taking them out to 100m. I wasn't dissapointed.

    Got about the same results with my K1. Haven't tried any faster than 1030 FPS but that was not good, should be able to get them up to close to 1100 FPS but I doubt it will be any better. 🤔 Found an error regarding the BC, they had mixed up the BC for the 25and 27grain slugs, I sent a mail to H&N and some bloke named Holger thanked me for noticing but it doesn't look like I'll be getting a lifetime supply of H&N slugs for my findings... 😁 Interesting and informative as usual. 👍

    Finally my slugs! 😁 . That is because I moved from 25gr to 30gr about a month ago. Extremely similar gun settings we have, the only main difference is that mine is shooting at 1000/1005 fps. I wish I could also see your groups at higher speed. I can tell you my gun makes them very similar to those you made, and it could do even better (mine there is), if it wasn't for the faulty piece of hardware between the chair and the gun...🙄 Also no big difference between .217 and .218, only marginally better the .217.
    Keep it up my friend! 👍 👍

    Nice shooting Gert. I'm using 700 mm normal (not heavy) superior liner for H&N 25 gr slugs and have much better groups than using a heavy slug liner. (sub moa groups at 100 m constantly)

      I will post the 27gr and 25 gr videos next week. Thanks for the heads up, my STX liner also loved the 25gr a lot. Was a bit dissapointed with the groupings at 50m, at 935fps they were one holing at 40m, the harmonics might be slightly of at 923fps

    What's your opinion? I am still learning. I decided to go with the 25 caliber air rifle 1100 FPS I think around 80 FPE. I'm going to most likely change the barrel to a barrel that is set up for Slugs.
    In terms accuracy and energy/penetrating power is there a not a happy medium in terms of caliber and slug choice? This is an accuracy lethality question. In the end what's your favorite caliber in terms of accuracy at long distance penetrating/energy FPE at 100 yd to 200 yd plus.
    If for example you are shooting long distances say 200 yards at 3/4 inches of pine wood which is considered the standard, perhaps a 25 caliber slug will be more accurate and consistent at these distances compared to a 30 and 35 caliber slug? Or maybe not.
    The second question is will a 25 caliber slug produce just as much energy/FPE as a 30 or 35 caliber at 200 yards in terms of penetrating the pinewood due to the 30 and 35 cal slug being heavier and perhaps losing more energy at longer distances?

    • @AimSmall
      @AimSmall  4 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      Unfortunately I can't comment on the .25 but I can give you some advice on the .22. There is happy balance between .22 at arounf 950fps to 1000fps with 30gr, 34gr and 40gr. This still gives you some shot count and super accuracy and hitting power. If you need more hitting paower beyond 200y go fir centre fire rifle.

      @@AimSmall with the 31gr .217 Altaros Ridged slugs going 950fps you should have over 40ftlb at 200yd with the slug still going over 770fps which still has plenty of potential. Some of these slugs will reach out to 600yd with more ft lb than UK air rifles, around 17ftlbs at 600yd for that same slug.

    Very interesting, 923fps is something I can manage. H&N are the most economically price slugs available in the UK. As you are using an FX have you tried FX Hybrid slugs which are supposed to be suitable for STX barrels?

    • @AimSmall

      Just got my hands on a single tray last week, 100 slugs are not nearly enough to do a comprehensive test, plus they are ridiculously expensive in SA... But I will do the test in any case, 22gr might be going super sonic out of my canon, my other FX will be too slow... interesting conundrum. Both my guns are on their sweet spots, will have to adjust one and hope I get it back to the sweet-spot again.

      @@AimSmall In the UK a tray of 100 cost equivalent to 298 Rand approximately, new gun not arrived yet, seems like I'll need 2 trays then! There are a couple of folk here making slugs but they are around 50% more expensive.

    Could you do a video on energy retention at range? slugs vs pellets? 12ftlbs and high power? Great videos.

    • @AimSmall
      @AimSmall  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Yes, the Strelok pro app can give you all that information, I have it on my phone. The short story is that Slugs keep their energy/speed about 2.5 times better than pellets. Pellet bc usually around 0.03 versus slug BC o 0.08 , thus the slug is less effected by wind, travels faster at a given distance and eliminates shooter error better. I might make a basic video regarding this but I am no ballistic expert.

    Hey guys, quick question........ we know superior liner is good for slugs up to 30g.... what about Superior Heavy any good under 30g ? Fx impact M3, 700mm, slug power kit

    • @AimSmall
      @AimSmall  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I am not familiar with the slug power conversions for M3, they use the same barrel, probe etc as the MkII thus you can simply interchange the barrels and probes, I don't know if the M3 needs a new hammer spring for the slug conversion. The superior heavy liner is good for lighter slugs as well although it prefers speed, shooting slugs at under 910fps out of the Superior Heavy liner doesn't work well. Shooting pellets is awesome, the superior heavy slug liner is a tack driver with 18gr pellets at 900fps. I shot the H&N' in 21gr, 23gr and 25gr out of the superior heavy liner with great success, loves it at 930fps. Have 2 video coming soon, one on the 27gr and the other on the 25 gr H&N's.

    Dude you are not shooting anny groups at all ! 930 and 950 are pellet speeds and to slow for slugs !! You need to push the speed up to max 1100 fps. Your impact is not capable doing so with 30 grain slugs so you have to come down in weight and use the 23 grain or max 25 grain to keep the slugs just sub sonic at 325 m/s or 1066 fps. You could push them a little faster but then you risc going thrue the sound barrier. Apreciate all the effort you put in this video's man but please show us some groups !!

    What's the difference between 217 & 218

    • @AimSmall
      @AimSmall  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      The 218 slugs is slightly "wider" than the 217, thus it grips a bit tighter in the barrel, each barrel differs so you will find certain guns like 217 slugs and others 218. The 217 is the Inch diameter of the slug.
